This specific text has been a year in the making so I hope it's good! Actually I created it as filler of the Tetranian RCC so they just wouldn't be just stats and have some honest to god background. ^_~ I really spent a lot of time creating this (So I type slow, okay?!?!) and hope that some one, some where apreciates my work. ^_^
~D. Leprechaun.
The Tetranian race is divided between seven clans. Some of these clans have existed since the beginning of their written history, others are more recent. All are composed of like minded individuals and each has their own code of ethics and beliefs. The following are descriptions of the view points and intergalactic relations of these clans.
K'thardin
Typical Alignments: Some are Principled and Scrupulous, but most are predominately Unprincipled. Very few are Anarchist, and Evil alignments are incredibly rare.
Society: The K'thardin clan is often viewed as the noblest of the Tetranian clans. They respect honor above all else. Their society is held in check by this sense of honor. However this also makes their punishments all the more extreme, for there is no worse fate than to lose ones honor and rank (in their opinion). Thus the death penalty is often used. (Usually by beheading.) Luckily there is little crime within the clan itself, keeping in mind that smuggling and trafficking weapons are not crimes in their eyes.
Rulers: They, like most of the other clans, are ruled by a council of elders composed of twelve Tetranians chosen by the people to represent them. These elders are the supreme power of this clan, and decide where the clan world ship will go.
Outside Relations: The K'thardin clan does not have many relations with the outside world, since they tend to think that their only responsibility is to themselves. "Let the other races take care of themselves" sums up their feelings towards that matter. However they have established limited trade with Phase World.
Clan K'thardin are one of the only Tetranian clans to open trade with the UWW. They exchange small bits of technology for minor technowizard items. However should relations improve they may trade more extensively.
The Splugorth are another matter. They openly despise the Splugorth and their minions and will kill any who violate their territories. Yet they understand that the Splugorth are far too powerful to take on their own. Thus they avoid conflict with the Splugorth outside of their territories and try to keep a low profile.
On the other hand, clan K'thardin has also made a trade agreement with Naruni Enterprises (Much to Naruni's surprise). This agreement provides them with weapons to handle the new war between the clans and provides Naruni enterprises with the coveted teleportation technology of the Tetranians.
At the moment, clan K'thardin has only heard rumors of RIFTS Earth, and frankly doesn't care one way or another about it.
Technology: Clan K'thardin has open trade with clan Est'thadin thus they have access to their amazing advancements in teleportation technology. (They only trade the minor teleportation devices with Nuruni.) They also are quite adept at creating spaceships and have several unique K'thardin designs. These however are never exchanged with outsiders (Non-Tetranians).
Position in the War of the Clans: Clan K'thardin became outraged by the clans Talos and Troy'lya's insane bid for power and were one of the first to oppose them. They lead the battle against these two clans. In their eyes these two clans have betrayed the Tetranian people, and clan K'thardin is not likely going to stop fighting till they have been utterly destroyed.
Troy'dane
Typical Alignments: Mostly Selfish, with the occasional Evil Alignment.
Society: Clan Troy'dane is often viewed as roughish, conniving, and unsavory. This clan can get you anything for a price. They are smugglers, thieves, gamblers, assassins, and anything else you need. The entire clan is more of a giant black market than anything else, and thus is more open with the outside universe. Everyone has their place in the grand scheme of things and everyone gets their share. Surprisingly there is little foul play within the clan. This can be attributed to their code, which put simply is "We will survive." Because of their code they are one of the tightest clans of all the Tetranians, and would never betray their own. Others are another matter entirely.
Rulers: They are ruled by a council of elders, like most Tetranian clans. However this council also has several officers and factions that work under them to keep the black market portion of the clan running smoothly.
Outside Relations: Clan Troy'dane has several trade agreements with Phase World, Naruni Enterprises, and even the Transgalactic Empire. Of course these agreements are all on the up and up, and so are not to be taken seriously. Their real trade is with the Intergalactic Black market, and the Freedom Fighters in the Transgalactic Empire. They seem to have developed a soft spot for the Freedom Fighters, but if ever asked about it the most likely response is 'Hey, it's good for business."
The UWW is pretty much ignored by clan Troy'dane, for obvious reasons.
Trade is nonexistent between clan Troy'dane and the Splugorth. However they often provide weapons, spaceships, and the like, to those who oppose the Splugorth. Yet this is all they will do. After all, only a mad man would oppose the Splugorth directly. (At least for now...)
The RIFTS Earth is known to clan Troy'dane, but they really don't care much about it due to the high involvement of the Splugorth on the planet. Should that ever change, they might open a small branch of their black market on the planet.
Technology: Pretty much whatever they can get their hands on. They don't actually make anything except for weapons and equipment that are only traded in small amounts. Instead they have developed quite an extensive trade in the black market so they can get their hands on pretty much anything.
Position in the War of the Clans: Personally clan Troy'dane is disgusted with the actions of clans Troy'lya and Talos. Especially since Troy'lya actually branched off of clan Troy'dane. However they do not wish to get involved in the conflict and have shut themselves to it. Should they be attacked by either side, they will strike back without mercy or remorse.
Est'thadin
Typical Alignments: Mostly Unprincipled and Aberrant. Only 10% of the clan are any other alignments.
Society: Clan Est'thadin is the oldest out of all of the clans, and the most bound by their own sense of honor. They are also the most adept in the ways of science and technology. However very few are warriors, and they live rather peacefully. They provide most of the other clans with some technology in trade for other things, however they never trade with non-Tetranians.(At least not as a whole.) Most are explorers by nature, and several dimension have been visited by scholars from clan Est'thadin.
Yet recently, clan Est'thadin has become more involved in galactic affairs due to their dark little secret: Kagato Est'thadin. Kagato is a genocidal maniac that seeks nothing but power. He is known throughout the megaverse for his crimes, including the destruction of several planets. Unfortunately, he is also a super genius, and a brilliant inventor. Couple this with the fact he is one of the most powerful Second Stage Tetranians ever recorded, and you can see why clan Est'thadin fears him and wishes he never existed. Fortunately for the Megaverse, Kagato disappeared several hundred years ago and is believed to be dead (or so the elders pray). Only time (And a GM) will tell.
Rulers: Clan Est'thadin has a ruling council, like most clans, and they were the first clan to implement one. Some of the council members in clan Est'thadin have lived for a very long time. In fact three of it's current members were involved in the ancient war with Shlynncryth that decimated their home world.
Outside Relations: Clan Est'thadin has several friendly agreements with small unknown worlds, yet they avoid large galactic powers. This can be attributed to the fact that they are scientists and scholars at heart, thus care very little for strengthening their ties with large galactic powers. There are only three large groups that they have had connections with. The first is obviously the Splugorth. Like most Tetranians, they hate and despise the Splugorth, even more so than any other clan. As stated previously, some of the members of clan Est'thadin's ruling council remember the war that destroyed their home world. However, they avoid conflict with the Splugorth and bide their time.
The second power they have contact with really isn't a power: True Antlantians. Clan Est'thadin respects True Antlantians, and can understand their hatred for the Splugorth far better than most races. After all, their world was destroyed by the Splugorth, and the Antlantians were forced from theirs. Should True Antlantians ever make a move to throw the Splugorth forces off of Atlantis, they would find themselves assisted by clan Est'thadin, much to their own surprise.
And finally the third power clan Est'thadin has any contact with is Phase World. Or more specifically, the Prometheons. Clan Est'thadin has had a small agreement with the Prometheons which can be said to be an exchange of knowledge. Clan Est'thadin gives Phase world copies of all of the things they have discovered and catalogued, and Phase World tells them of the recent events, wars, and other major information about the goings on of the universe. This way, the clan is still informed of what is going on in the Megaverse, even though they aren't involved themselves.
Clan Est'thadin also knows about RIFTS Earth, and has several operatives recording the phenomenon that occurs there. Their only interest in the planet is because of its scientific significance.
Technology: Clan Est'thadin are THE technological power of the Tetranian clans. They have invented most of the nicks and knack's used by the clans and there are even a few of it's members that know the forbidden art of Rune Magic. (However, NO one other than high-ranking members of the clan know that they possess this kind of magic knowledge. After all, not only would the Splugorth be after them, but most of the other Tetranian clans would be to.) Clan Est'thadin's greatest mark in technology is their unique teleportation systems. These devices are incredibly accurate and can even be used to cross dimensions! This technology is what helped keep the Tetranian clans alive after the war that destroyed their home world.
Many vile creatures (including the Trans-Galactic Empire, Naruni Enterprises, and the Splugorth) would love to get a hold of clan Est'thadin and steal their technological advances. Because of this, the world ship that houses most of the clan is constantly shifting from one dimension to the other making them nearly impossible to track. Even the few that eventually do find the world ship discover it has amazing defenses. Very few have ever attempted to steal clan Est'thadin's technology and lived to tell the tale.
Position in The War of the Clans: Clan Est'thadin has been forced into the war because of the greed of clan Talos. Clan Talos wants what clan Est'thadin knows, and will go to any lengths to get it. Because of this, clan Est'thadin has joined forces with clans K'thardin and Raz'lyan to stop the madmen that threaten their very existence.
Raz'lyan
Typical Alignments: Mostly good with a fair percentage of selfish (20%) and a very minor percentage of evil (5%).
Society: Clan Raz'lyan originally sprouted off of clan K'thardin, thus they share many of the beliefs and opinions of the older clan. However they differ in their views in one important subject; justice. While clan K'thardin is swift and final with their justice, clan Raz'lyan has a more legal view on things, with several courts and justice departments housed with in the clan. This does not mean that clan Raz'lyan is lax in their pursuit of justice, in fact they always find those who are guilty and see that they are punished accordingly. They just don't find the most obvious person and chop their head off. Many criminals fear the detailed eyes of this Tetranian clan. Because of their insight, most of the other clans turn an eye to clan Raz'lyan when there is any doubt in their own findings in the matters of justice.
Rulers: Like most of the clans, they have a ruling council of elders that govern the clan. However they also have an extensive legal jurisdiction that entails many branches of law. Under their control is a sort of police, that are assembled from the clans greatest (and the most noble) warriors to help maintain peace not only in the clan, but in their surrounding territories.
Outside Relations: Surprisingly, clan Raz'lyan has little to do with any of the major galactic powers. Like most Tetranians, they loath the Splugorth and their warriors are often part of raids and such against them. Clan Raz'lyan walks a thin line because they are the most open in their opposition of the Splugorth through out the Megaverse. This is something that disturbs the other clans and they are afraid one day clan Raz'lyan will no longer be considered a minor annoyance to the Splugorth, and will bring their wrath upon the heads of all Tetranians.
As for any other worlds, the clan has little to do with them. However it should be noted that when any of their member is traveling through out the galaxy, they try and uphold the laws of the territory they are in (as long as they are not considered evil) and will pursue criminals of that area in the name of justice.
The clan also knows of RIFTS Earth, and has sent some of its warriors to the planet. They are there to act as roving peace keepers, and bring justice to an almost lawless planet.
Technology: Clan Raz'lyan gains most of their technology from trade with clan Est'thadin. Other than that, there are no particular advances that they posses that are really worthy of mention. The only unique devices they have created are structured around the apprehension of criminals and their incarceration. Very few have ever escaped their prisons.
Position in the War of the Clans: Clan Raz'lyan has been opposed to clan Talos and Troy'lya's bid for power even before the clans declared war. They willingly jump into the current conflict in hopes of stopping the war and bringing justice to the two clans.
Qual'enost
Typical Alignments: The alignment breakdown of clan Qual'enost is rather diverse with a leaning towards selfish alignments. About 20% are good alignments, 20% are evil, and the remaining 60% are selfish.
Rulers: Unlike most of the other clans, Qual'enost does not have a ruling council. Instead they have a clan Chief who is the supreme ruler of their clan and is selected every one hundred years in a vote from the entire clan. Under the Chief, are several advisors and sub-commanders, but the Chief's word is law in this clan. The current Chief of clan Qual'enost is a powerful Second Stage Tetranian named Veritul Vales Qual'enost. He is of an Unprincipled alignment, and has ruled for the past fifty years.
Society: The society in clan Qual'enost is fairly diverse, with the clan mostly caring about their own affairs. A quote that would best some up their society is "Who cares what they think?!" They are a very independent clan, and care little for others opinions of themselves. They do what they want, when they want, and the other clans be damned.
Outside Relations: Clan Qual'enost is actually the most sociable of any of the Tetranian clans, and has several agreements with most every power in the Tri-Galaxies. The only exceptions are the Trans-Galactic Empire and the Splugorth.
Though they find the actions of the Splugorth to be distasteful, they do not bother themselves to oppose them in any way. As long as the Splugorth leave them alone, they leave them alone. This has angered some of the more traditional clans, due to the Splugorth's involvement in the destruction of their home world, but clan Qual'enost doesn't care what they think.
As for the Trans-Galactic Empire, they harbor a surprising hatred for them due to their first meeting. The ambassador from clan Qual'enost sent to the Empire was killed and ever since then the two powers greet each other with guns blazing. They have never tried to fix the situation and would be happy to help bring about the Trans-Galactic Empire's downfall one day.
Clan Qual'enost has no idea that RIFTS Earth even exists, and probably wouldn't care much about the planet if they did know of it.
Technology: Because of their open trade with most races, the clan's own resources are as diverse as those they keep company with. Their only truly unique technological device is their spaceships. Most of which are a seemingly perfect blends of the various technologies they have encountered. Clan Qual'enost takes pride in their craftsmanship and have become quite the merchants in the Tri-Galaxies.
Position in the War of the Clans: Clan Qual'enost could frankly care less if the other clans eliminate each other and welcome either side into their territories as long as they obey their laws. Clans Talos and Troy'lya have taken advantage of this and use some Qual'enost outposts as safe havens from the other clans. Frankly clan Qula'enost has little of value in the other clans eyes and probably will be left alone in the war until one side has won. Talos has actually been carefully praising the clan on their neutrality and hopes to gain a politic foot hold in their government in order to corrupt them from within. Clan Talos plans on trying to make Qual'enost as much a lap dog as Troy'lya. Clan Qual'enost's members are so pumped up on their own pride, that they do not see the danger lurking own their very door step.
Troy'Lya
Typical Alignments: Clan Troy'lya is mostly composed of Anarchist and Miscreant alignments with a few that are other alignments. (About 5%.)
Rulers: Though composed of a Ruling council as most Tetranian clans, the council answers to the Talos clan. So, in a way, the clan is in fact ruled by clan Talos and their emperor.
Society: Clan Troy'lya was once an off shoot of clan Troy'dane that developed in hopes of spreading their intergalactic black market farther. However after a while clan Troy'lya became involved in more organized crime and soon became a clan of assassins and cut throats for hire. When this happened clan Troy'dane severed all ties with them.
Outside Relations: Clan Troy'lya are nothing more than a gathering of criminals, and thus have very lucrative associations with all sorts of unsavory types. Among their 'friendliest' acquaintances are the Gun Brothers, and secret assassin guilds through out the Megaverse.
Clan Troy'lya is also one of the two Tetranian clans that have actually opened up trade agreements with the Splugorth. (Clan Talos being the other.) They have maintained a rather good relationship with the Splugorth Lords, especially with Lord Splynncryth of Atlantis. He has hired the clan on several occasions when he wanted bloodshed, but not any political backlashes. Clan Troy'lya has always been happy to abolish.
Clan Troy'lya also has incredibly bad relations with Naruni Enterprises, and often attacks their employees whenever the opportunity arises. In return, Naruni returns the favor by attacking any Troy'lya ships sighted in their territories.
The clan also knows of RIFTS Earth, and some of its members often visit Atlantis to rest and look for 'jobs'.
Technology: Clan Troy'lya has no specific technology of their own, yet they are fond of using Kittani equipment and other items traded by the Splugorth.
Position in the War of the Clans: This clan could be thought of as nothing more than a lap dog for clan Talos. The only reason they involved themselves in the war was because the much stronger clan of Talos was in favor of starting it. Acting according to the wishes of their masters, clan Troy'lya was in fact the clan that struck the first blow by attacking a K'thardin outpost in the far reaches of the Megaverse. After that, they boldly leapt into battle, knowing they had the support of clan Talos, and will not stop now that their bloodlust has been awakened.
Talos
Typical Alignments: Clan Talos is mostly composed of Evil alignments. (35% Miscreant, 35% Diabolic, 20% Aberrant, and 10% other.)
Rulers: Clan Talos is ruled by Tetsuo Vargas Talos, their supreme emperor. Vargas is a blood thirsty tyrant ( Secondary Stage Tetranian, Diabolic Alignment), that only wishes to rule his piece of the Megaverse. He was outcast from the clan K'thardin over 5,000 years previously and founded clan Talos soon after.
Society: Clan Talos was initially composed of the outcasts from the other clans. However they soon grew unto a power themselves and quietly bided their time for when they felt it was a good time to strike back at the clans they had grown to hate. The society itself is a loosely organized society of monsters that go by the rules that the strongest survive. "Eye for an Eye' is also one of the favored codes of this evil clan, and they have been known to wait centuries to get their revenge.
Outside Relations: Of all the Galactic powers, clan Talos has cultivated their relations with the Splugorth the most. They understood the amazing amount of power that the Splugorth possessed and were happy to become servants of the Splugorth for their own little piece of the galaxy. After all the Splugorth were strong and powerful. Who better to serve then those you wish to emulate? However the Splugorth are no fools and know full well that clan Talos is a cunning lap dog. One that will tear its masters throat out given the opportunity. This trait has in fact endeared the clan to the Splugorth and the are quite happy with their 'friends'.
This clan also knows of RIFTS Earth and several of its more independent members visit the planet from time to time. Mostly they visit Atlantis, but some simply love to wander the land and revel in the utter chaos that is rampant over most of the planet.
Technology: Mostly, clan Talos has access to Splugorth technology, and are quite fond of rune weapons, biowizard weapons, and other nasty surprises that they can get from the Splugorth. Of their own creation, clan Talos has developed quite an extensive array of weapons themselves and trade only with clan Troy'lya and the Splugorth.
Position in the War of the Clans: Clan Talos are the masterminds behind the War, and have read their opponents well. As predicted, only three of the five other clans opposed them. This is going according to their plan and they hope to win the war in another century or two if no unexpected surprises develop in that time. The entire war was created as an act of revenge from their emperor upon clan K'thardin, which cast him from their ranks over 5,000 years ago. Most of the clan cares little for the true reasons for the war, only wanting to be part of the 'true' leaders of the Tetranian race.
Only time will tell how it all turns out....
