Riding down the long open road of Wellington Lane, one finds oneself suddenly driving through a dense covering of trees over a narrow bridge. Beneath this bridge is a ravine, covered in briar and lined with gnarled limbs. It has been said this ravine is the haunt of the Goat-man, a creature who is half-human, half-goat. People have supposedly seen him peering up at them from the bridge as they drove by on moonlit nights.
Many years ago, my friend Bob S. and I went in search of the Satanic Dumping Grounds, the alleged dropping-off site of animals who had been ritually sacraficed. As we approached the lair of the Cityview Monster, we saw a big white German Sheppard standing on the bridge. It wouldn't budge, even though we honked. It was a few minutes before midnight. Bob backed up and we decided to walk over the bridge and try to pet the dog. Neither of us noticed it disappear, but as we got up to the ravine crossing, the dog vanished. We peered over either side of the ravine, but there was no trace, except for a bloody looking carcass. Needless to say we hoofed it to the car and sped away.
