THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST
by Robert Heinlein
The Dust Cover Reads
(at least, mine does)
Anything can begin at a party in California--
and everything does in this bold new masterwork by the author of
Stranger in a Strange Land.
When four very sensual geniuses suddenly find themselves
the target of alien hostilities they are forced
to flee their universe. And their adventures ravish the imagination with unparalleled excitement.
My Raves
The dust cover is a little deceiving with it's smut-like rhetoric. This book is an amazing romp through universes and dimensions we've all known and loved, from Frank Baum's "Oz," to Edgar Rice Burrough's "Barsoom," and so much more. Heinlein crosses fantasy and science fiction effortlessly, using an amazing cast of characters to make this story soar. So far, this is my favorite book of his (and I've read a large chunk of his books, and loved them all). It is fun and sweet and sad, all at the right times. There hasn't been a writer since Heinlein that can write with his conviction and knowledge...he is sorely missed.
If you haven't encountered his writing yet, this is a great place to start, and can only enhance your enjoyment of the rest of his books. Out of five stars, I rate this one six!
