Mmm. You gotta love this guy! He first appears in the movie and mocks Gimli (I laughed, though I like Gimli now. I didn't then). He is a gaurdian of the forest,he patrols the borders ofLothlorien to keep evil things out. (the official title is march-warden) He is loyal to the Lady Galadriel and his lord Celeborn. In the book, I know that he acts as a guide to the hobbits on their quest. Because of his feirce love for that which he gaurds, at first he doesn't want to let them in, but does it anyway. He insits that Gimli be blindfolded though, he doesn't trust dwarves much.
Fan Fic and Fan Art
Here's a lovely peice of info for you! His name means "Hidden Hero". That seems appropriate to me. He's a quiet character who's not seen as much as I would like him to be seen. But he's cool. And kicks butt. (note: in other tranlsations his name can mean "Tall Watcher". Both work)
He also shows up as a supprise to aid the men of Rohan in defending their country, with a bunch of other elves (they're so intimidating!!! They scare me when they all turn as one in their formation...) I think its cute, when Aragorn greets him with a hug, he doesn't know how to react at first to human emotions. It's funny!
(May I mention that he doesn't DIE in the books...when the Fellowship leaves he is alive and well! He was brought down by Peter Jackson...*grumbles*)

"Farwell, my son" This was inspired by the fanfic above, so read it! I thought the concept of him having children was neat...and it makes his departure that much sadder...
