I changed out of the clothes I had borrowed from Mel, due to leaving mine at the hotel in a rush, and put my sweatshirt and jeans back on. I washed off the now gooey make-up from my face and made sure to give my hair a little water to smooth it and somewhat deal with the grease factor until I could get a shower. I found Mel's bag and stuffed the clothes inside. I felt kind of naked not walking out of the room with a bag of my own and ended up being neurotic as hell double checking that I wasn't leaving something behind. Before I could get out of the door, Stacy burst in and slammed it behind her. She turned and noticed me, suddenly concern washed over her face.
"Oh gawd, I saw what Amy did! Are you all right?"
I felt along my jaw as I replied, "Well, I was fine, but now that you mention it, this thing is starting to get sore,"
"What the hell was she doing, anyway?" Stacy scoffed walking past me to the mirror, "I have to go out and make an appearance in a minute. Just heard about it,"
"Oh, yah sure, you get to go sit on King's lap. You know you like it,"
Stacy gave an overly devious smirk as she began fluffing out her bleach blonde hair, "Where are you staying tonight?"
"Motel 6,"
"Oh, okay, that’s close to the Super 8, isn't it,"
"Yeah, we had to pick up Melanie from there earlier, seeing as you left her!"
"Oops," Stacy laughed, "Don't be fooled, she begged me to leave her,"
"Really!" I mockingly gasped, "I would never have guessed. She wouldn't do something that sneaky just to have some time with Jeff!"
"No, not her," Stacy admonished finally turning away from the mirror to face me, "How do I look?"
"Total Hottie!" a voice from behind us answered, I turned and Stacy waved.
"Hey there, met any good chairs lately?" I joked to Adam who stepped inside.
"Yet again, you're so funny when you try!" he patted my head, "If you wanna go now, me and Chri- Jay, are leaving,"
"Haha, you did it, you messed up the names!" Stacy laughed at Adam who was notorious for insinuating his own perfection.
"Yeah I was planning on going. I was going to find Matt first though and let him know I'm leaving,"
"Wow, you are actually going to tear yourself away to ride with us,"
"Well, I figured it's the least I could do to show my support for you now, gruesome twosome,"
"Ha ha," Adam remarked turning to Stacy to bid adieu's.
I gave her a quick hug and joined Adam outside the room. We walked down the hall in our own silent thought worlds until I saw Amy up ahead, glaring.
"Great, the she-demon's here," I muttered to Adam who blinked out of his stupor and noted her presence also.
"Just pretend she's in her underwear, it will help,"
"What are you talking about? Do you do that to everyone or something?"
"Everyone but you and Jay and Ellana,"
"So you think about Jeff in his underwear regularly?" I smirked proud to have found my loophole for ridicule.
"Six times a day at least!" he exaggerated as we neared Amy.
"Nice knuckles," I complemented her as soon as I was close enough so she'd hear me.
"Thanks, you want to try them out again!" she replied coolly.
"Okay, Mercy keep moving, fun's over," Adam interrupted.
"That's right, Mercy, run along. Play time IS over!"
I wanted to turn around and punch her, but common sense and all that kind of maturity stopped me. It didn’t however stop me from seeing her mouth "ill get you" as I turned around.
I continued down the hall with Adam. I saw Jeff peeking out of one of the rooms. Then Jay moved him out of the way and looked down the hall.
"What are they doing?" I asked to no one in particular.
"Probably being gay," Adam answered matter of factly.
"So are you trying to tell me I gained a sister and just lost a brother?"
"I wouldn't know, I'm the straight one,"
"Matt! She's coming!" I heard Jeff hiss from inside the door.
I slowed myself, not actually wanting to know why Matt would have to be concerned with my arrival. It was most likely a trick to get me to come running to catch whatever I had been missing and left out of. I was getting too smart to fall for those little tricks of Jeff's. I had already walked in on some pretty weird stuff, such as my older brother brushing Matt's teeth. I think that had been the end of the line for my surprise attacks.
"Is it safe?" I called to Adam who had gone ahead of me.
"Yeah, they all just wiped off their drag queen makeup, and okay, yeah, Matt slipped out of his favorite ball gown. They're decent," Adam assured me with his usual whining sarcasm.
"Hey, guys," I greeted stepping into the room.
"Hey baby," Matt hurried to hug me, being extra sweet in front of both our brothers.
"Ugh, she's one of them now," Adam said from the doorway to Jay.
"Yeah, I know, but you know what this means!" Jay beamed.
"New Valet!" exclaimed the two in unison.
"She'll never be better than me, though," I quickly added.
"It's all relative!" Jay laughed off my comment.
"Well, I really want to go find Mel and see if I can persuade her to come over to our hotel tonight. Stacy's bound to be busy with King, so she shouldn’t mind passing the hours by with us, rather than alone,"
"Yeah, Matt and I had an idea about tonight. Maybe we could all take over the pool for the night. I mean, it's Tuesday, most of us won't be working until Monday, we could afford to part the whole night,"
"Sounds like fun, sis, good thinking," Jay nodded agreeing to the idea.
"If I'm not the object of a heinous amount of phone calls from my woman, I'm in," Adam also agreed.
"I have to check with my ultimate supremo lord master of my schedule, but I'm sure she'll be up for it," Jeff announced as he headed out the door letting Adam step in first.
"Well, I guess I should go get provisions since it was partly my idea," Matt groaned thinking of actually having to shop.
"I'll go with. I know if I left it up to you, what you'd buy, so," I took Matt's arm, "Jay, could you give Jeff a ride, we ought to go ahead, get busy and catch up with you all later,"
"Sounds good,"
"But, Jay," I started before I realized he had agreed to let me go without any fighting or brotherly nonsense about running off alone with Matt for too long of a time, "Oh, okay, uhm, never mind,"
"I'm full of surprises aren't I?" Jay grinned reaching into his pocket, "Here's your room key. I haven't had time to give it to you all night. I imagine you'll want to stop for some clothes or something, seeing as you've been in those rags all day and night,"
"Yeah, good point,"
"Ew, so that's what that was," Matt sniffed on my neck and gagged.
"Shut up, I do not stink. Besides I'll drown you later if you keep it up,"
"Let's hurry up and go. I want to get back to the love my life, the ice machine," said Matt jokingly.
"Don't make her jealous, she's a mad dog when she gets jealous," Adam warned.
I gave a pitiful glare both their ways and growled lightly.
"Bye Jay," I pulled away from Matt and gave Jay a quick hug and then one for Adam, "I'll see you later on. You two ditzs can find the pool right,"
"Is it the big thing with water?" Adam played along.
I winked, "Good job,"
Matt gave a little wave and followed me out of the room dragging his bag along the floor trying not to tax himself too much.
"Here let me get it," I finally demanded rather than asked.
After some tug of war and chivalrous attempts, I took the bag away from Matt and carried it.
"You really don't have to,"
"Save it macho man. Let me rescue you, just this once,"
"Well, I don't want this to become a habit,"
"It will if your arm falls off. Just deal with the fact that your girlfriend is capable of carrying your luggage,"
"It just feels weird. I'm so used to doing it myself or carrying stuff for you and me, but this is just, ugh, it makes me feel naked,"
"Damn, if I knew that carrying your luggage was all it took,"
"Hah hah, very cute. The belt pic is as far as I'm going. After what happened with that getting all over the internet. I know far better now,"
I smirked thinking about his naked bod splattered on tons of websites as he covered himself with his tag championship belt.
"I do love that picture though. If I had a fridge, it would be on there with a magnet. Definitely,"
"Damn, and I don’t have anything embarrassing of you to hold over your head for ransom either,"
"Well, you do, but I'm not going to remind you,"
We exited the building and started across the parking lot.
"I've been thinking and I don't recall, what is it?"
"I'm not telling,"
"Oh come on, what do I have that could embarrass the great Mercy?"
"Think pictures," I said turning to him once I stood by the passenger door of the vehicle.
"Uhm, hmm, oh yah! I REMEMBER!" he gave a devilish smirk, "But I wouldn't use that. I like that picture too much. It's for my eyes only,"
"You're sick," I giggled as he opened my door for me.
"I thought you'd take that as a sweet display of my character," he was still smiling.
"It is," I pecked him on the cheek, "Now, open the back so I can store this for you,"
Matt obediently opened up the back seat and I tossed his bag inside slamming the door afterwards. He had already gone around to the drivers seat and was fidgeting with the crease in the seat where the two cushions met.
"What are you doing?" I asked getting in and closing my door.
"Trying to flatten the dent Jeff put in the seat lowriding,"
"Ahh, I don't think I've ever seen him low ride in his seat. Must be quite a spectacle,"
"That's Jeff for ya, quite a spectacle,"
Matt got in and started the engine. I leaned back in my seat and relaxed. I had gotten everything I wanted in one day. Things were going great. I only wondered if I had reached the top when I would go down to the bottom again.
"You wouldn't use that belt pic against me would you," Matt asked me thoughtfully.
"About as much as you using my baby pictures against me,"
"Okay, just making sure,"
"Oh ye of little faith,"
We had been driving for about ten minutes when we came to a grocery store.
"Did you catch what street this was on," Matt asked turning into the parking lot.
"I think it's called something like Rainbarr or Rainbow," I glanced back and spotted a street sign on an alternate entrance, "Oh, nevermind, it's Rainwood Plaza,"
"Okay, let me look that up on the map, because I have no clue how to get back to the hotel from here,"
"Don't you just wish we could afford one of those neato cars with the directional device in it?"
"You have no idea!"
"Try driving with Jay, I have plenty of idea!"
Matt flipped the map over and started his search from the street, "Try having Jeff screaming in your ear over and over and over 'Are we there yet',"
"You aren't serious,"
"As a heart attack. That's what happened in Tennessee. That's why I had that migraine and locked myself in the hotel room before and after the show,"
"Good to know,"
Matt looked as if he had found the street and was getting an idea of the way back. Suddenly he got this uncomfortable look on his face.
"There's something stuck in the seat between the cushions," he gave a poor effort of reaching for it, then winced and rubbed his shoulder, "Reach back there and see if you can pull it out for me, please,"
"Yah, sure,"
I reached behind him into his seat as he scooted forward. I felt along the crease and sure enough there was something wedged in between the seats. It felt to be about the size of one of those squishy balls you squeeze when you get stressed out. After much tugging and jerking, I finally pulled it from its deep implantation. Matt started a small smirk as I withdrew my hand.
"Oh my god," I thought to myself as I looked at the object in my hand.
Matt turned to me with a serious and nervous look on his face. I looked away from him and back to the small smooth black box in my hand.
"Well, I was wondering, if you wanted to spend some time together, say about the next 60 years," he started to smirk, "If you aren't busy?"
I remained speechless gazing back into his eyes and he looked into mine. I felt him reach down and open the box. I broke my stare to look and saw inside the box the most gorgeous ring ever created. White gold with two hearts intertwined, inside the hearts a sapphire and an opal were set. I lost my breath momentarily and then looked back up at Matt staring nervously and intently, "So will you marry me?"
"Yes," I whispered about to fall over if I didn't have my seat belt to hold me up.
Matt smiled relieved and took my hand. He pulled the ring from its snug holding and slid it on my finger.
Somehow my free hand found it's way to quickly release the seat belt and I ended up tightly embracing Matt, who was clinging to me just as much.
"I love you, Mercy, " Matt whispered in my ear.
"I love you too, Matt. So much,"
