At Anarchy Rulz, coming your way on pay-per-view from the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, Minnesota, Jerry Lynn will attempt to capture his first ECW championship in front of a hometown crowd. But Justin Credible would like nothing more to defeat and destroy Lynn in front of his most ardent fans.
The two combatants are no strangers to one another. Back in the summer of 1998, Lynn and Credible engaged in a series of matches to determine who was the better man. At Heatwave ‘98, Justin came out victorious after a well-fought, high-intensity 20-minute match.
The last time Lynn and Credible wrestled each other on pay-per-view was over one year ago, when Lynn teamed with longtime rival Rob Van Dam to defeat Credible and his Impact Player partner, Lance Storm, at Heatwave ‘99.
All told, Lynn and Credible have fought each other on 23 occasions, with Jerry winning 11 times and Justin winning 12 times, the last victory coming on the June 16th edition of ECW on TNN.
In early August, Lynn was granted a World title match against the winner of the Credible-Steve Corino title match that took place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on August 26th. The night before, also at the Ballroom, Lynn scored a pinfall victory on Credible during a second round match in the ECW World Tag Team Title Tournament, adding more fire to Credible’s already explosive personality. Credible survived his defense against Corino the next night, and the title match was officially set.
Over the past few weeks, Jerry has learned that there is a bounty on his head. It was first revealed to him by ECW referee Danny Daniels. Since then, the Network has tried to collect, as Rhino has attacked Lynn on several occasions. Daniels has also gotten into the act, disqualifying Lynn in a match against Bilvis Wesley, and causing him to lose a match to C.W. Anderson at the Ballroom. But Lynn has survived the onslaught, and is now headed for the ultimate showdown with the World Champion.
Meanwhile, Justin has defeated many challengers since winning the World title from Tommy Dreamer on April 22. Recently, Justin has had successful title defenses against the likes of Chris Chetti, Yoshihiro Tajiri, and Kid Kash to prepare for October 1st.
The last time a challenger went to his home state challenging for the ECW World Title, Shane Douglas defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in Pennsylvania at the November to Remember pay-per-view on November 30, 1997 to win the gold.
Will history repeat itself? Find out October 1st when Jerry Lynn takes on Justin Credible for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. It is a night where two men will have no limits and no boundaries. It is a night where both men will give it there all. In short, it is a night where Anarchy Rulz!
