Beth wiped the tears from her eyes for what seemed like the thousandth time in the last 24 hours. Her eyes were puffy and swollen, her face streaked with the tears she had missed. She couldn't believe he was gone. The love of her life, the man she was supposed to marry in two months. Shane was everything to her. He was the only family she had besides her foster mother, whom she occasionally kept in contact with. There was no way she was going to be able to live without him. No way she was going to be able to go on with life.

Looking into the mirror, she watched the tears start to fall again. This time she didn't even bother to try and stop them. She continued to write the note although she was barely aware of the small movements her hand was making. Her body was basically numb except for the pain she felt in her chest. Why did bad things always seem to happen to her? Why couldn't she be allowed to be happy?

For a moment her thoughts drifted to Shane's sister Zoe. She had always been really nice to Beth. She had even offered to help plan the wedding. Beth knew she had to be devastated. Shane meant a lot to a lot of people. Thinking of them almost made Beth think twice about what she was going to do. But then she remembered they didn't matter only the pain mattered.

The paper she was writing on was covered in little circles where her tears had fallen from her cheeks. The ink had smeared a little, but it was all still readable. As she read through the note, the tears began to fall faster causing her site to be blurred. Even though she could barely see what she was doing, Beth signed her name to the bottom of the note as best she could and then dropped the pen onto the desk.

Carefully, she got up from the chair and walked into the bathroom where she had a bath waiting for her. After removing all of her clothes she stepped into the warm water and then slid all the way into the tub. Resting her head against the back of the tub she took a deep breath and then picked up the straight-edge razor that she had placed on the soap tray. Without another thought she began to cut her wrists with the blade and then moved onto the rest of her body until the water began to turn red from the blood.

"Shane, I'm coming baby. I'm coming," she whispered using every last ounce of strength she had. Then her eyes closed as she slumped against the side of the tub.
