Reese hung up her cell phone and then rolled over into Jeff's warm embrace. She couldn't remember a time when she was happier. If only they could solve this case, then maybe things would be better.
But would they, she thought. What happens when we are done? How can we go back to the live we had, when this one is so great. Thinking about the people she had met here and the reaction she got from the crowd when she went out to the ring. Reese wasn't sure she wanted to give those up. Being a PI was great, but was it as rewarding as being here?
Snuggling into Jeff, she tried to fall back asleep, but was interrupted by a loud knock at the door.
"What the.." Troy said as she sat up in her bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Who the hell could be at the door at this hour?" Untangling herself from Jason and the blankets she got up and headed for the door. Opening it she let out a sigh of annoyance, but then her attitude changed to one of concern when she saw who was at the door.
"Matt, what's wrong? I'm sorry come in," Troy said as she opened the door wider.
Matt walked into the room, his eyes were red like he might have been crying or he was up all night. His face was pale and frowning. "She's missing."
"What."
"Danielle, I haven't seen her since she left the arena last night. I called Suzanne and she said she brought her to our room, hung out for an hour and then headed to her room to watch the rest of the show. Nobody has seen her since she left with Suzanne."
"Wait a minute, what did Suzanne say?" Jason asked from his spot on the bed.
"She said that she brought Danielle here, hung for an hour and then headed to her room to watch the rest of the show."
"That is impossible. First, they left after the show already started and it takes about a half an hour to get here from the arena. There is no way they could have come here after the show started, hung in your room for an hour and then Suzanne go up to her room. Suzanne was at the arena after the main event. Remember, Adam saw her outside after the girl got attacked."
"Oh shit," Reese mumbled from under the covers. "Last night the girl, Maria, said she was talking to a woman when a man hit her from behind. Then she heard the man and woman talking before she fell unconscious. The man was obviously the security guard I chased, but when Troy gave me the description of the woman I couldn't put my finger on why I recognized it. Then, Avalon our other partner, called and said this chick in WCW was yelling on the phone to someone about screwing up and that the better be more careful. Avalon would have bet money it was a chick, the woman was talking to and is trying to uncover the phone records now.
"I am willing to bet money that the phone records and everything leads to Suzanne," Reese finished. "The description is almost a perfect description of Suzanne, except she had her hair up and I don't think I have once seen Suzanne with her hair up since I have been here. That is probably what threw me off at first. But look at it, brown hair, blue yes, real tall for a girl and really skinny and of course the one thing I totally forgot, Maria noticed a huge rock on her ring finger. Who else would have a huge rock on their finger, but the fiancé of the Rock himself."
"Reese, do you know what you are saying? Suzanne has been around the fed for five months now. She is totally harmless," Matt said.
Reese could tell he was trying to prove her wrong. He didn't want to be responsible for sending his girlfriend off with a psycho.
"Look Matt, I know she may seem harmless.
They usually do. I have always felt a little weird around her. I could never figure out why, but maybe this is it," Troy told her friend. "For now we shouldn't jump to any conclusions. Lets wait until Avalon calls with the phone records and we'll see if this Mandah character and Suzanne are somehow working together. It could be just a coincidence that Suzanne happened to be at the scene and that the girl can describe her perfectly."
"What should I do in the meantime? What do I do about Danielle?"
"I have a plan," Reese said as she sat up. "It might just help us prove Miss Suzanne's innocence, or maybe even her guilt."
