Jerry Lawler's Future With The WWF

As a bit of an update on a previous report concerning Jerry "The King" Lawler meeting with Jim Ross yesterday, it appears as though Ross and King went to Kevin Dunn, the man pretty much heading the television department who then from their meeting was to report to Vince McMahon. That should take place sometime today and when it does, check right back at this site as the gist of it will be reported.

If Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler granted a decent proposal to Kevin Dunn and have a good reason for bringing him back to take his normal spot on RAW is WAR and pay-per views, which is what they are going for, then McMahon would need a very good reason as he is extremely high on Paul Heyman and Heyman "has McMahon's ear" in almost all decision-making relations.

If any deal is made, it's expected that Lawler may be able to work as color commentator on the WCW-side of WWFE, simply because that could work in with storylines as Shane McMahon could bring him in to "screw Vince". Even if McMahon has written off Lawler as seen by very high opinions on bringing in all of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Buff Bagwell, and even Ric Flair, McMahon shows desperation in needing big names to build hype and eye appeal for the rookie promotion.

Just a few months following XFL's failure after their failure concluding their debut season, there is a lot of pressure on Vince McMahon to make WCW work out. Rushing into XFL is what many predicted McMahon did wrong. Also, providing another product. XFL was supposed to be innovative and different from the sports presented by NFL and Canadian football. Same credentials relate to WCW. It needs to be a different brand of wrestling. After Rob Van Dam, who reportedly has signed, but has commented as to "looking very good," the promotion could have a great sense of Rob Van Dam style acrobatic wrestling. They also signed the majority of low-priced cruiserweights, which pretty much cover the entire roster for the new promotion.
