Mr. Hughes (w/Alexandra York) vs. Phillip Parish

This is the wrestling debut of Big Cat’s new character, Mr. Hughes which is the big burly black man who wears a dress shirt, tie and sunglasses for his matches along with a real mean look on his face. Since Hughes joined with the York Foundation, he’s having to deal with the problems with Dustin Rhodes, which JR mentions here. BOSSMAN SLAM gives Hughes the win. I think I’ll start calling that move the ANGRY BLACKMAN SLAM from now on. (2:04)

Paul E’s “Danger Zone” talk show segment has now been replaced by Dusty Rhodes’ new segment called “The Bull Dropped In”. Paul E calls it an appropriate name. Haha.

Barry Windham vs. Tim McGuire

Great little squash as Barry goes into HUGE-jerk mode here by treating McGuire less than human. The only bad thing about this one is the inclusion of “Ratt Butler”; a take-off from the “Gone with the Wind” character. Apparently, Turner had just bought the rights to that movie as well and Jim Herd went too far with it. Ratt Butler is a guy in a mouse suit that would come to ringside and bug the crap out of Barry. Windham wins with the SUPERPLEX just as Ratt Butler hops in the ring and starts beating on Barry. (3:26) The “Ratt” unveils to be Brian Pillman. Why didn’t they just have Brian Pillman jump him after the bell without a mouse suit on? Seriously. I would’ve been WAY more in the segment if Pillman didn’t have a tail.

Clash of the Champions Report with Paul E. Dangerously: On several different occasions over the last eighteen months, Bobby Eaton has taken Ric Flair to the limit. Now that he is on fire more than ever, Bobby Eaton gets a 2/3 falls match for the WCW World Title against Ric Flair himself on June 12. Since Muta defeated Sting in Japan on March 21, he has earned the opportunity to wrestle Lex Luger to determine the #1 contender to the WCW World Title at the Great American Bash. Plus, Sting wants revenge against Nikita Koloff for costing him and Lex the WCW World tag team titles at Superbrawl. Other matches include Pillman/Gigante vs. Windham/Anderson in a “Loser Leaves WCW” match, IWGP Tag Champs Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Masa Chono & Hiroshi Hase and five other matches that WCW doesn’t care to mention!

P.N. News vs. Al Steele

P.N. News is a 400-pound black and white mixed rapper who REALLY sucks at rapping. Paul E ~ “You know why my hands are in the air? Because I just don’t care.” Great line. He rolls all over Al and then the BROKEN RECORD (flying splash) wins it. (1:08)

York Foundation Interview: Alexandra York wants to add more people to her group and Missy wants to know who else is coming into the group. Ricky Morton walks by with the contract and says he’ll think it over. Terrence Taylor says this would be the best decision Ricky ever made if he joins the York Foundation.

Johnny B. Badd (w/Teddy Long) vs. Kip Abee

He’s pretty! This is the in-ring WCW debut of Johnny B. Badd himself. Paul E wants to set up an interview with Johnny for the Danger Zone, but that JR’s job tonight. They lock-up, but Badd backs away because he doesn’t want to be touched. Teddy comes in to wipe him down, then Badd sneaks in a KISS THAT DON’T MISS (left hook). He sits down on top of Abee for the 1-2-3. (0:43) I believe a “Johnny’s gay” chant started up during the replay. JR talks to Teddy about Johnny B. Badd. Teddy says Johnny is beautiful and has quick hands. Don’t touch this! Oh so gay.

WCW World Television Champion Bobby Eaton vs. Jeff Stone

This was pre-taped before Superbrawl, so obviously no belt or mention of Bobby Eaton being the WCW TV champ except for the graphic which no one in the audience would see anyways. Bobby high-fives the jobber and then beats the CRAP out of him. He rakes his face and everything, so it’s only fair that Jeff Stone thumb Eaton in the eye. Eaton fights back and then keeps Stone from getting back in the ring. He works the arm a bit and then hits the Swinging Neckbreaker to set up the ALABAMA JAM! (5:28) It’s matches like this one and Windham’s match that make me miss squashes. Arn gets a rematch for the TV belt a week later, but I think we all know he’s not successful.

Nikita Koloff vs. Rick Hardrock

I’m guessing Rick Hardrock is his jobber/porn name. Koloff beats this dude inside and out of the ring and then puts him away with the SICKLE. (3:49) The point is, Sting should REALLY fear Nikita.

The Desperadoes are coming to WCW!

The Diamond Studd (w/Diamond Dallas Page) vs. Rikki Nelson

Diamond Studd is Scott Hall before all the machismo. He’s already doing the toothpick thing though. DDP picks a lady out of the audience to rip off Studd’s workout pants, but she can’t handle the Studd! This is back when Scott Hall did pump splashes. DIAMONDS EDGE wins it. (1:52)

Stunning Steve (w/Vivacious Veronica) vs. Chuck Coates

Without a doubt, the biggest WCW in-ring debut on the show. Vivacious Veronica looks like a girl getting ready for her senior prom, but went to watch wrestling instead. Lady Blossom wouldn’t appear until a week or two later. Austin’s here for one thing and that’s to capture the TV title. It won’t take him long. Austin works the arm a bit and then kicks Coates out to Veronica for some female cheating. She’s pretty cute, but she hits like a girl, which makes the cheating less believable. Austin hits the STUN GUN (JR ~ “A real stunner right there.”) and then puts Coates away with a discus clothesline. (4:26) Crowd actually seemed to be into him.

It’s time for “The Bull Dropped In” with Dusty Rhodes and his buddy and Missy Hyatt’s BOYYYYFRIEND Jason Hervey (or Wayne Arnold from Wonder Years). Kevin Sullivan and One Man Gang are the special guests. Sullivan is on a voodoo kick during this time period, so Jason Hervey made a voodoo doll of One Man Gang. While Dusty and Kevin converse about ridiculous things, Hervey pricks at the doll and One Man Gang cries out in pain. Next week, Dusty’s guest will be Arn Anderson!

Terrence Taylor (w/Alexandra York & Mr. Hughes) vs. Big Josh

Big Josh is the original Doink the Clown dressed up as a burly lumberjack. Taylor ducks and runs to start. Once he locks up with Josh, he can’t get anything going and takes a couple Log Rolls, which is just Josh stomping up and down on Taylor’s chest. Taylor bails and checks with the computer. Back in, after taking some shoulderblocks, Taylor pulls Josh into the corner and then punches and chokes Josh around the ring. Josh elevates Taylor off him on a pin attempt, but then takes a Mr. Perfect neck snap. Josh mounts a comeback, but Taylor rakes the face and hooks on a chinlock. Josh fights out and hits a backdrop. He connects with a running double-ax handle and goes for the running seated senton, but Mr. Hughes KO’s Josh with his angry loaded black glove for the DQ. (9:33) Dustin Rhodes runs down for the save. *½

Black Blood (w/Kevin Sullivan) vs. Tommy Angel

Kevin Sullivan looks like Lloyd Bridges in Airplane after he had been sniffing glue. This is the last debut of the night. Black Blood is Billy Jack Haynes as a French executioner from the Middle Ages. He wears a hood during his entrance to cover up a mask and also carries a freakin’ ax to the ring. Paul E says Black Blood’s face is CENSORED from TV because the sins of humanity are written across his face. Hahaha. That is so funny. After a few minutes of action, Black Blood puts the hood on Angel and gives him the GUILLOTINE (flying knee drop) for the win. (3:07) Post-match, Black Blood acts like he wants to decapitate Angel with the ax, but Sullivan holds him off. JR ~ “Well, that’s ridiculous.”

WCW U.S. Champion Lex Luger vs. Jack Dillon

Before you know it, Luger has this kid up in the TORTURE RACK. (1:31)

Sting vs. Ringlord #1

Not sure who the Ringlord is, but he looks just like Jimmy Garvin. I believe it’s the huge mullet guy from Magnum Force. Ringlord #1 actually gets defeated by the crowd before Sting really gets his hands on him, because they are pretty loud. Stinger Splash is followed by the SCORPION DEATHLOCK (3:35) Sting begs for Nikita to come out and get in his face. Nikita does walk through the curtain, but we’re out of time!

Final Thoughts: A lot of debuts on this episode, but the most important one was of course Steve Austin’s WCW debut. That alone makes this show interesting. Everything else was squashes and lead-ins to the upcoming Clash.
