MLW Spring Slugfest takes place Saturday April 5, 2003 live from the MLW Arena! The card is big enough so far with every match being of main event caliber! There also promises to be many surprises in store. Here’s a preview of the show!
“The Hard One” Notorious Neil vs. The Hot Shot Eddy Cashmere
Notorious Neil left MLW last July after being defeated for the MLW Championship by Ryan “Shotgun” Morris. It was thought that he would retire. However, at Ultraclash last October, Neil came back. But, this wasn’t the same Notorious Neil MLW fans knew and had grown to love. He was no longer preaching the words of his idol, Hulk Hogan. This Neil looked bitter and dangerous. He spoke about bringing the Hate back into Major League Wrestling. Neil continued his campaign on the March 22nd episode of Saturday Night Fire. He said he would target anybody in MLW that got in his way and would start with the Hot Shot. The Hot Shot Eddy Cashmere, MLW’s 2002 MVP, hadn’t been seen since Ultraclash, where the Hierarchy left him laying. The Hot Shot returned on the March 29th episode of Fire to answer Neil’s challenge. Neil interrupted him and explained that the Hot Shot represented all that Neil was against. Cashmere was the new generation of MLW that was trying to get rid of Neil, who helped start the company. Neil said he knew things that were hotter than the Hot Shot, leading Neil to throw Tabasco sauce and wasabi onto the former MLW International Champion! After some brawling, the Hot Shot came out on top with a yakuza kick. However, it’s very apparent that this was just the beginning. This will be the first meeting between these two goliaths of MLW. Will history and tradition prevail as Neil tries to bring back the hate? Or will the Hot Shot prove to the Hard One why he is MLW’s MVP and the future?
Champion Big D vs. ABH Matt Casey
At MLW Summer Madness last August, Big D had the opportunity to win the MLW Championship when he took on the champ, Ryan “Shotgun” Morris. He had been chasing the Hot Shot and the International Championship since the beginning of the season and it was on to bigger things for D. However, the new International Champ, ABH Matt Casey, made sure that D didn’t get the title that night by interfering in the match and leading to a Shotgun victory. So began this intense feud that culminated at Ultraclash. Casey and D were joined by the Hot Shot in the Co-Match of the Year for 2002. In that match, Big D finally won the big one and became the MLW International Champion to close Season I! However, just when it looked like these two would move on, the new MLW Commissioner Vance MacDougal granted ABH a rematch for the title against D at Spring Slugfest! ABH has already claimed that he will be the MLW Champion by the end of the year, but Casey has never been one to pass up an opportunity for gold. Will ABH kick off his year of destiny by adding another title to his resume? Or will Big D start of Season II the same way he ended Season I; on top?
MLW Xtreme Champ The Sickness vs. Nemesis
This feud has been ongoing since Summer Madness 2002. That’s when The Sickness, Nemesis, and PAT took part in a Triple Threat Match to crown a new MLW Xtreme Champion. The Sickness was able to pin PAT to win the title, but Nemesis quickly jumped the new champion. The two brawled into the front yard of the MLW Arena where Nemesis left his adversary laying near the street. For the next few weeks leading up to Ultraclash, the two were embroiled in one-upping each other any way possible. At Ultraclash, in the most amazing Xtreme Championship match in MLW history, The Sickness barely beat Nemesis to retain the title. However, all wasn’t over yet. The Masked Intraviac came to the ring and attacked The Sickness. But, it was actually Money that was donning the mask all season long! Money told The Sickness that he would never get his hands on him. Money and Nemesis beat down The Sickness and we didn’t see him until the March 15th Saturday Night Fire. The Sickness ran into the ring while Nemesis and PAT were assaulting Ryan “Shotgun” Morris. He fought back The Hierarchy, leading to an impromptu tag match. The match ended in a no contest, but The Sickness brought Nemesis a great deal of pain. The next week on Fire, The Sickness again thwarted Hierarchy plans when he hit Nemesis with a chain during Nemesis’ match with Shotgun, causing Money’s right hand man to be defeated. On the last Fire before Slugfest, Nemesis and The Sickness, along with Shotgun, were in a Triple Threat Match. Once again, The Sickness was able to hit Nemesis with the Infection and score another pinfall on his opponent. The Sickness is up 2-0 against Nemesis, but at Slugfest the Xtreme Title will be on the line once again and anything goes. Can The Sickness end this feud by beating Nemesis for a third time? Or will Nemesis finally win the gold he’s been after since last summer? Will The Hierarchy play a role in the decision?
MLW Champion PAT vs. Ryan “Shotgun” Morris
This feud and the circumstances surrounding it led to MLW Season I ending in a cliffhanger. PAT won a shot at the MLW Championship back in September 2002. The Champion, Ryan “Shotgun” Morris had been the fightingest Champion to date. He defended the title against all comers. But, he never faced PAT before Ultraclash 2002 in October. The weeks leading up to the event, Shotgun had been finding numerous letters, videos, and CDs all for him. It was thought that someone was stalking the Champion. Morris went on a rampage, but the stalker was still at large at Ultraclash. Never did Morris suspect PAT. The two competed in a hard-fought battle. Shotgun hit the Silver Bullet off a ladder and it appeared he had the win. But, Nemesis came out and pulled the special ref, Big D, out of the ring. PAT rebounded and hit Shotgun with the Defecator to become the new MLW Champion. But, this was only half the story. Nemesis and PAT joined up and continue to beat down Shotgun. They held him up in a crucifix as Korn’s “Here To Stay” played. Suddenly, a masked and hooded figure came to the ring. When he took off the mask, it was none other than Money! He was the stalker and thus began the Hierarchy. For 20 long weeks, Shotgun waited for MLW Season II. At the first Fire on March 15th, Shotgun appeared and attacked Money after his match with Kid Krazy. However, PAT and Nemesis came out and double-chokeslammed Shotgun. The Sickness made the save and we had a tag match. The match ended in a no contest, but Shotgun extracted some revenge on PAT, leaving him laying outside the ring with the belt draped across his body. On the March 22nd Fire, Money said that if Shotgun wanted a rematch for his title, he would have to go through a gauntlet, first against Nemesis then Big D. Nemesis used his power to dominate Shotgun, but nothing, not even a Devastator, could beat Shotgun. The Sickness ran in, hitting Nemesis with a chain. This allowed Morris to rise to the top rope and hit a flying forearm to Nemesis’ nether regions for the win and no doubt, a bad weekend for Nemesis. Next was Big D. In a great wrestling clinic between these two, Shotgun showed how smart and technically sound he was as he blocked a Big DDT attempt. He hit the Silver Bullet for the win and the number one contendership. But, Shotgun wasn’t done yet. He grabbed the mic and called out the MLW Champion PAT. PAT came out and we had a non-title match. The fresher PAT beat down Shotgun, but when it came time for the Defecator, Shotgun reversed it into a flying headscissors for a quick win. This angered the Champ and gave Shotgun a psychological advantage heading into Slugfest. On the March 29th Fire, Shotgun said in an interview that he was “the man without fear” in MLW and that PAT can and will be beat at Slugfest. Money was angry with PAT for his loss the week before. So, he told PAT to pick an opponent of Shotgun’s caliber for that night. PAT chose Kid Krazy and made quick work of him, showing just how brutal the One Man Champion can be. As we head into Spring Slugfest, these two are even on wins and losses. Who will win this rubber match for the most prized title in backyard wrestling, the Major League Wrestling Championship? Will Shotgun win back the title that means more to him then life itself? What measure will he take to win the match? Or will PAT successfully defend his title for the first time and put an end to Shotgun’s title hopes? Will The Hierarchy play a factor?
Also, MLW Commissioner Vance MacDougal will be in the house! Hierarchy leader, Money will be there, along with the Nightstalkers, Kid Krazy, the Supervillain, Jay the Referee, and more! Jim Hoss, UN Decided, and Tim Phoric will be doing the announcing, along with the return of the Dink, MLW’s Ring Announcer! MLW Spring Slugfest 2003 will be a spectacle!
