George Lopez: "Welcome back! My next guest is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion of the TWF. He became the first Mexican-American to win the TWF title when he defeated Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 11 in Houston last year. Take a look at him in action."
THE SHOT THEN GOES TO THE MONITOR AND IT FILLS UP THE SCREEN. IT SHOWS A CLIP OF MATT CRUZ LOCKING IN THE "COLORADO CLOVERLEAF" ON RANDY ORTON DURING THE WRESTLEMANIA 11 MAIN EVENT. THE CAMERA THEN FOCUSES ON RANDY ORTON'S PAINED EXPRESSION AS HE TAPS OUT TO END THE MATCH. THEN THE SHOT GOES TO CRUZ CELEBRATING WITH THE TITLE IN HAND AS FIREWORKS BLASTED IN THE SKY.
George Lopez: "He will be taking on CM Punk in the Wrestlemania 12 main event from Denver, Colorado this year. Here he is, the TWF Champ, Matt Cruz!"
THE CROWD GOES WILD AS THE SHOT GOES TO THE ENTRANCE NEAR THE BACK OF THE STUDIO AS THE HOUSE BAND, MICHAEL REARDEN AND THE ESE VATOS, PLAY A ROCKING INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF DR. DRE'S "THE NEXT EPISODE." MATT CRUZ, DRESSED IN A CHARCOAL SUIT WITH A DARK BLUE TIE, MAKES HIS WAY OUT THROUGH THE CROWD. HE HAS THE TWF CHAMPIONSHIP BELT DRAPED ACROSS HIS SHOULDER. HE SLAPS HANDS WITH THE FANS, THEN HE HUGS A HYSTERICAL FEMALE FAN. JUST BEFORE HE REACHES THE STAGE, CRUZ STANDS NEXT TO A FAN WITH A REPLICA TWF CHAMPIONSHIP BELT AND POSES FOR A PICTURE, THE FAN TOOK A PICTURE FROM HIS CAMERA PHONE. CRUZ THEN STEPS UP TO THE MAIN STAGE TO GREET GEORGE. HE HANDS THE TITLE BELT TO GEORGE, WHO HOLDS IT UP FOR THE CROWD. HE THEN HANDS IT BACK TO CRUZ, WHO PLACES IT ON THE SEAT NEXT TO HIM AS THEY BOTH SIT DOWN. THE CROWD TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO SETTLE DOWN, BUT THEY EVENTUALLY QUIET DOWN ENOUGH FOR THE INTERVIEW TO START.
Lopez: "It's great to have you on my show, man. I gotta tell ya, and I mean this in a nice way, but you clean up!"
THE CROWD LETS OUT FEW "WOOS" AS CRUZ SMILES
Cruz: "Thanks, George. Not bad for a chicano from the barrio, eh?"
THE CROWD, ONCE AGAIN, LETS OUT A FEW "WOOS".
Lopez: "That's what I dig about you. You came from a real 'hood in Denver, didn't you? And you were able to pull yourself out of there and make something of yourself. Now here you are, on top of the mountain, so to speak, as the TWF champion. I think that's real inspirational, dude."
Cruz: "I appreciate that, George. Yeah, I grew up in a real ghetto in Denver. Saw a lot of gang crap and saw a lot of my buddies get picked off, including me almost. Fortunately, I was able to find an outlet in sports, which led me to the University of Texas, which led me to the TWF!"
Lopez: "Now, Texas is a big football school, but you competed in amateur wrestling and won a national championship there. Did it really prepare you for what you're doing now in professional wrestling?"
Cruz: "Well, amateur wrestling and the TWF are two different worlds, George. I think having a background in amateur wrestling gives me a leg up in the TWF, don't get me wrong. I think guys like myself, and others in the TWF past and present, who do have that background bring a unique set of skills and toughness you can't find anywhere else. They are two totally different animals, though. It's not like going from college football to the NFL."
Lopez: "Speaking of football, I hear you're a die hard Denver Broncos fan!"
THE CROWD CHEERS SOMEWHAT, BUT THERE ARE A FEW SCATTERED BOOS FROM THE LOS ANGELES CROWD.
Cruz: "That's right. Been a Broncomaniac all my life! Now, you and I almost came to blows backstage, 'cause I found out you were a Raider fan!"
THE CROWD "OOHS" AS GEORGE GETS A SCARED LOOK ON HIS FACE
Lopez: "You almost came to blows, my man, I almost came to broken bones! I'd do my best Carl Lewis impression if you came at me, man!"
CRUZ THROWS HIS HEAD BACK AND LAUGHS.
Lopez: "Do you think Tim Tebow will be the starter eventually for them?"
Cruz: "I don't know, man. I hope so. Kid's got skills, you know? Kyle Orton may be the guy now, but seeing how hard Tebow works, I can't see Tim riding the bench past this season. Hopefully they give him a shot. I guess us Broncos fans got spoiled with Elway all those years.",
Lopez: "But now, you get to be the conquering hero returning home to defend the TWF title in your own backyard of Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Tell us what that was like, winning the TWF title for the first time."
Cruz: "Oh man, George, it was the biggest thrill of my professional life. One of the reasons I got into amateur wrestling as a kid was because I was a big professional wrestling fan. Of course, not knowing how different they are didn't bother me. I ended up falling in love with both genres. Then when the TWF came into power 11 years ago, I knew it was the place to be and I had to get there somehow. Winning the title last year was a culmination of six hard years of work, but it was worth it."
Lopez: "That's awesome. I'm a huge wrestling fan myself, I grew up watching lucha libre as a kid, so I feel that. You made history that night, becoming the first Mexican-American to win the TWF title. Did that weigh heavily on your mind when it happened?"
Cruz: "Uh, not until afterwards did that really sink in. There have been a lot of great Chicano performers in our business who never got that opportunity. Like my mentor, the late, great Eddie Guerrero. He never got his hands on the TWF title, but he was one of the best of all time and I hope he's proud of where I'm at today."
THE CROWD LETS OUT AN APPRECIATIVE ROUND OF APPLAUSE, WHILE A SMALL "EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE" CHANT BREAKS OUT.
Lopez: "I'm sure he is, bro. He was one of my all time favorites, with the low rider and everything. Did you learn a lot from him?"
Cruz: "Totally. I had just signed with the TWF a few months before he passed, but I was like a sponge around him, soaking up all the knowledge I could about the game from him. We really bonded in the short time I got to know him, so it felt like I lost a brother when he passed and I miss him like crazy."
Lopez: "I'm sure you'll do him proud at this upcoming Wrestlemania. Tell me about the guy you'll be facing then, CM Punk. (the crowd boos at the mention of his name) From what I saw at the last pay per view, he kind of took a cheap shot at you after your match. Is that how he got his match with you?"
Cruz: "Nah, all that got him was a sure fire beat down, come Wrestlemania time! (the crowd cheers loudly and Cruz and Lopez bump fists.) No, he earned his shot by winning the Royal Rumble. I guess he cheap shotted me because of his Napoleon Complex. He's not a big dude, but he wants to make himself feel like a big dog if he takes down the biggest dog in the yard. That's just my guess, my degree was in history, not psychology, ha ha! In all seriousness, though, he's a talented wrestler and I'll have my hands full with him at Wrestlemania. Still doesn't mean I like him though."
Lopez: "And he seems to have his eye on your girl, Maria, too. That's gaucho! I grew up in the 'hood, too and I know what you're thinking 'cause we don't play that, right?"
Cruz: "Right! They used to be a thing, back in the day, but she traded up. Homeboy better check himself if he knows what's good for him. I might have to call out my back up, my new manager: El Sucio, George Lopez!"
THE CROWD CHEERS LOUDLY AS GEORGE GETS UP FROM HIS SEAT TO STRIKE AN "INTIMIDATING" POSE. CRUZ IS IN HIS SEAT LAUGHING AND CLAPPING. GEORGE SITS BACK DOWN LAUGHING TOO.
Lopez: "Shit, why not, I'll have some free time coming up!"
Cruz: "That still pisses me off that they cancelled your show, man!"
Lopez: "You and me both, brother!"
Cruz:: "Thanks for having me on in time, George. I'm going to miss the best late night talk show on TV, and I really mean that. The only thing I have left to say is.... TBS? FTP,(bleep) THOSE PUTOS!"
CRUZ AND LOPEZ GET UP TO SHAKE HANDS AND HUG AS THE CROWD ALSO STANDS ON THEIR FEET, CHEERING.
Lopez: "Thanks, man. And the last thing I have to say is.... Don't forget to catch Matt Cruz every week on the USA Network on Rampage as well as TWF Wrestlemania 12, live on pay per view! We'll be right back!
THE SHOT THEN FADES OUT AS CRUZ IS WAVING TO THE CHEERING CROWD.
