Joe Corey on the Jim Rome Show

September 19, 2011

Jim Rome: We're back here in The Jungle, and Clones we have a real treat in store for you today. Joining me here in the studio is the man who will be defending his TWF Universal Championship in Denver, CO next month at WrestleMania 12. Clones, help me in welcoming "The Show" Joe Corey. Welcome to The Jungle my friend.

Joe Corey: Glad to be here Jim. Long time fan and it's an honor to step foot here in The Jungle.

Rome: Now for those who don't know much about you, you are the current TWF Universal Champion, as well as a former King of the Ring, King of Cable and ECW World Champion. Quite a list of accomplishments you got going on there.

Corey: I made the decision early in my career that if I was going to put my body on the line for this business, then I was going to reap the rewards that come along with that. And as you can see from championships you just mentioned, I have been reaping them for quite a long time.

Rome: Seems like it. Now you've been in the TWF for about eight years now. Before that, I'm assuming you were a huge fan. Who were some of your influences growing up?

Corey: Well I guess like everyone else, I have to say Ric Flair. To this day I still watch matches of his and am in awe. Another person I looked up and took a lot from is Triple H. When I first was signed by the TWF, I was assigned to the Rampage brand. At that time, Triple H was a major player and took a liking to me I guess because he would give me a lot of advice on my career. That advice really paid off as time went on. Another big influence on me was Shawn Michaels. Growing up, I admired everything about him. It wasn't until I defended the King of Cable title against him at WrestleMania a few years back that I truly appreciated everything that man has to offer. Being in the ring with him is the only way to realize his greatness.

Rome: I get that answer a lot from many of the wrestlers who join up here in The Jungle. Now at WrestleMania 12, you are going to be defending your title in a Triple Threat Match against the TWF Intercontinental Champion M.X. Ogden and John Cena. Sounds like some pretty steep odds.

Corey: You could say that. Basically I can lose my championship without being defeated in that match. And add to it that Ogden and Cena have their own problems. That doesn't help me out at all.

Rome: Problems? Can you elaborate?

Corey: Well Ogden has not been in the best of favor with The Empire, which is not a great idea seeing they are in control of the company. A few months back, I was about to make my first title defense against John Cena, when he was attacked by someone backstage before the match. Come to find out, the person who attacked him was M.X. Ogden. Now Cena and him are on a collision course, and I am right in the middle of it.

Rome: Does that concern you much heading into Denver?

Corey: Not at all. As most people know, Ogden is a protégé of mine. He has come a long way in his career, but not enough to take that next step towards being a World Champion. As for John Cena, his anger towards Ogden is going to be his downfall. He is more focused on Ogden than he is my championship. And for anyone who is up on their history, they will know that John Cena has never defeated me in a one-on-one contest. When it comes to SuperCena, I am his kryptonite. And come WrestleMania, you can just call me Lex Luthor.

Rome: Sounds like it is going to be quite a match. Anything you'd like to say to the Clones before we wrap up?

Corey: All the Clones need to know is that I always deliver at WrestleMania. Some of my greatest matches have been on that stage. Be it against Shawn Michaels, Edge, The Undertaker or Money Mike, those matches are some of the best of my career. Win or lose, I leave it all in the ring. And when I step foot in Denver, Colorado it will be no different. I have main evented WrestleMania before, but this time it will be different. I am entering WrestleMania as a World Champion for the first time in my career, and I plan on leaving it the same way. At the end of the night, the final image the thousands inside Sports Authority Field, and the millions watching on Pay-Per-View see is going to be the sight of "The Show" Joe Corey, holding up his TWF Universal Championship.

Rome: You heard it fans. Call your local cable company now and order TWF WrestleMania 12 now and see "The Show" Joe Corey defending his TWF Universal Championship against M.X. Ogden and John Cena. Joe, thank you for joining us in The Jungle, and after you defend that title, come back and join us again.

Corey: It was a pleasure Romey, can't wait to come back.
