What If.....

October 14, 2017

Have you ever been watching wrestling and wondered "I wonder what would happen if"? Well so do I, and my new column is going to do exactly that.

Wonder what would happen if something didn't happen which would lead to something completely different occurring instead?

On May 19th 1996, in WWE live from Madison Square Garden, one of the most infamous and famous things happened when Triple H, Razor Ramon, Diesel and Shawn Michaels took part in the above mentioned infamous "curtain call".

This is important because while they were all friends outside the ring, Razor and Michaels were "face" and Triple H and Diesel were "heel". Plus Razor and Diesel were leaving for WCW, HBK was champion so Triple H had to be punished alone.

What if the curtain call never happened? If Hall (Ramon) and Triple H never went to the ring during HBK and Diesel's cage match and just left at that year's King of the Ring, Triple H would have won and not "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

Which means the greatest WWE superstar of our generation would not have said his legendary "Austin 3:16" promo which led to his iconic feud with Bret Hart which turned him into the most popular superstar in WWE history and one of the company's highest selling stars in the box office and merchandise sales.

Triple H would have won the King of the Ring and that would have given him the opportunities that Austin received including the rivalry with Shawn Michaels leading into a title match at WrestleMania that took WWE from Michaels and put it in Triple H's hands, making him the top guy in WWE.

Instead, Austin would have traveled down the road he was prior to the curtain call in which he didn't talk, had a terrible gimmick and terrible storylines, if he was used at all.

Granted, Triple H still became one of the best ever in WWE after he was done as said back then "eating crap", but as stated, what if this never happened? In my opinion, he would have been a major star much sooner and Steve Austin might not have been one at all.
