The LowDown

WrestleMania 6 Wrap-Up

April 10, 2005

It's time, once again, for everyone's fav- oops, sorry, not my lame catchphrase. Que paso, my fellow TWFites? I thought I'd hit you with a special Wrestlemania edition of the Lowdown, so let's throw down, (No pun intended)

> I, first off, have to give mad props to Paul London. He gave one of the most impressive performances at Wrestlemania that I've ever seen. He lasted nearly 40 minutes in the Lightheavyweight invitational with a group of the best Lightheavyweights in the world and came out on top. I gotta admit, he wasn't my pick to win it all, with Ultimo Dragon and Pyschosis in there, but he pulled it out. I guess the ol' Chachi lookalike's got skills after all.

>I don't know how much credence the argument that Shane Thompson has been overlooked in the build up for Wrestlemania has, but I can assure you Dylan Jansens didn't overlook him. Thompson pulled out all the stops in retaining his Universal Title, and he did just that. Overlooked? I don't think so. Underrated? In my opinion, yes. Talented? Without question. The fans may not like that, but it's true.

>I've been saying for months that whomever beats Drew Blood for the TWF World title is going to have to earn it, and will deserve it. At Wrestlemania 6, John Cena earned it and he most certainly deserves it. He went and beat one of the best in the business in Drew Blood, and he did it straight up, with no controversy. Blood may have let his own arrogance get the better of him and may have not taken Cena seriously, but that is no excuse. Cena was just the better man that night in the Metrodome.

>I know the fans are happy with the outcome of the 6 man tag for the rights to the New Breed. I know for me, the whole battle over the name was wearing a little thin, and I couldn't wait for some resolution on the matter. So from now on, the New Breed is now Chaos Wolf, Jordan Rockwell, and Dracula-I mean Vlad the Impaler. Even though they got the name back, something tells me they're not done with Sean O'Haire, Heidenreich, and Jason Tiger Oliver.

>Joe "The Show" Corey pulled a massive upset when he defeated "The Showstopper" Shawn Michaels. However dubious the methods were, he got the job done. I just wish "The Show" would've shown more backbone and taken on Shawn one-on-one, and not relied on outside help to get the win. The win would carry more weight, in my opinion. Nonetheless, he has been on a roll for quite some time now, and that's no accident. But now he has not only Shawn Michaels on his tail, but the returning Carney as well.

>Another impressive win goes to Matt Cruz. He did what I didn't think anyone could do, and that was make that monster, Mount Morgan, tap out. He has an impressive array of submission holds in his arsenal, the most impressive being the Triangle Choke hold he used to make Morgan tap out. I tried talking to him after his match at Mania, but the only thing he told me was a quote from Scarface: "I want the world, chico, and everything in it." I took that to mean he's ready to make a serious impact here in the TWF.

>Rome suffered a bit of a setback in his loss to Rhyno. Rome was looking like he could steamroll just about anyone in his path for awhile there. And I'll be honest, I thought Rhyno was just going to be next on the chopping block for Rome. Rhyno just took it to Rome and Gored him into the mat and won. He wasn't intimidated by Rome's strength and it payed off.

>Kurt Angle won the "Choose Your Destiny" match, which didn't surprise me one bit. How he did it DID surprise me, however. Angle really cemented his status as possibly the best technical wrestler in the world today by making fellow Gold medalist, Karam Ibrahim, tap out to the Ankle lock. All that's left for him is to decide which champion he wants to face, World Champion John Cena or Universal Champion Shane Thompson.

>Edge and Axl Irvin put on a bloody gorefest at Mania, with Edge coming out as still the Hardcore Champion. Both men put their bodies through hell and had the battle scars afterward to prove it. I'm a big fan of Edges' work, but I think he's making a mistake by being content with the Hardcore title. I just wish he would stop killing himself in these type of matches and make a serious run at the Universal title.

>All I have to say to Trish and Alexis is: God, you're both hotties! Can I see you two naked?

>If the viewing audience doesn't think the rivalry between Rampage and Primetime is real, all you had to do was look at the interpromotional matches of Damion West vs Randy Orton and Strife and Bahamut vs Jamal and Rosey. Both sides went after each other, trying to out do the other. Rampage and Primtime ended up splitting the two matches with Randy Orton scoring the victory over "High Octane", while Jamal and Rosey scored the huge upset (tainted) victory over Strife and Bahamut. Which division had the better Wrestlemania? I don't know, what do you think? We should have a poll or something like that.

>The Travis Wakeman-Undertaker rivalry added another chapter to it's long and storied history as Wakeman defeated UT in a Buried Alive Match. To say that Wakeman was scared of this match is maybe an overstatement, but he wouldn't be human if he wasn't more than a little concerned going into this match against the legendary Dead Man. Wakeman's childhood hero, Hulk Hogan, even tried to convince him not to go through with the match. But he did, and it was a slobberknocker, as JR would say. That mysterious druid who tried to help out Taker almost cost Wakeman the match. Taker, being the man that he is, didn't want any help, but he took his eyes off of Wakeman and it cost him. Whomever that druid was, he's got to deal with the "Technical Magician" now.

>It's no secret that I have a bit of a rocky past with the GSE. I don't think Money Mike and I will be sitting down to play a hand of Texas Hold 'Em while drinking some beer together anytime soon. What do I think that they have a show with the TWF now? I'll do the politcally correct thing and keep my opinion to myself. That's a rarity folks, but I will toe the company line on this one. I just have to wonder what a shot to the ego it is to the former members of the GSE now that they have to work for the company they tried to put out of business. If the roles were reversed, I know I would have to swallow a lot of pride in doing so.

Well, that's all from me this time around. It was an awesome Wrestlemania, and we'll see you next time when Primetime comes at you with their PPV, Foul Play. Until next time, this has been Gabe Morales and I'll see you at ringside. Lechuga, Lechuga!
