Roleplay Help

Are you having some problems in getting into a Federation because you can't RolePlay long enough? Or are Presidents not letting you in because the way you RolePlay isn't the best strategy? Well here is where I can do my best to try and help you guys improve, now with some people lets face it they just suck but in my 1 year in E-Wrestling I have been able to help a lot of people including myself. This is the page where you will learn what makes a good roleplay and what makes a bad one, well, at least in this fed. Of course everyone has different opinions.....

First of all this is a given, when anyone starts out RolePlaying lets face it they suck. The reason for that is because they don't even know how they are suppose to RolePlay. If you have just started E-Wrestling and are in a Federation you are not going to be great that's pretty obvious, but when starting out the key is to try and remain in that Federation and improve with each RolePlay you ever do

Whenever you RolePlay it is extremely important for you at all costs to keep the reader excited. However, I know sometimes it is hard to think of ideas for your RolePlays but no matter what you must RolePlay whether the ideas are flowing in or not. If you don't, you have the chance of being fired from the Federation for lack of RolePlaying, below I will list a few examples of what NOT to do in your RolePlays. Then below that I will list some examples of what you should do in your RolePlays

Bad RolePlays

Good RolePlays

Analysis

Alright the first 2 examples I gave were at best horrible. Barely any punctuation, horrible spelling, it looks like the RolePlayer gave absolutely no thought whatsoever to the match and got in a 2 line sentence before he had to leave or something like that. Want to know something funny? I have seen World Champions RolePlay like that, isn't that sad? This should be very clear but NEVER do a RolePlay like the horrible first 2 examples I gave.

Alright now onto the 2 good RolePlays I gave, both are very well thought through you can tell that immediately. Both of these RolePlayers obviously spent a good amount of time on their RolePlay and thought about their match. While these 2 were good as always there are many things missing for examples a Introduction, and descriptions are missing from this RolePlay. With RolePlays like this it is almost guaranteed that you will win 80-85 % of the time

Involving The Reader

Involving the reader is an integral part of any roleplay. Making the reader feel as if they are there or giving them a good feel for the setting, the atmosphere, the mood of your character etc.
Set the scene by giving a detailed description of the opening sequence and then carry on from there. It is a good idea to increase the intensity of the roleplay as you go through, before ending it in style. The best roleplayers can pull this off regularly and, if carried out effectively, it can turn an average roleplay into a good one.

Entertaining The Reader

This doesn't necessarily mean you need to write a comedy sketch, just amuse the reader and keep them interested.
There is nothing worse than reading a boring roleplay. This usually occurs either when the writer has continually gone over the same point two or three times, dragged out a point for too long or just blabbered on with what ever has come into their head. Write a roleplay along those lines and the reader shall soon become bored. Try and avoid any of this and you should be alright.

Originality

Please be as original as possible. Using a phrase such as 'I am the game' is a total rip-off and will be discredited. Everything must be your own material. Don't copy stuff from other e-wrestlers at other sites. We emphasise creativity, imagination and originality. So that's basically what being original means. Also being unoriginal means constantly setting your roleplays in the ring or constantly using the same type of roleplay, talking about your opponent all the time. Please try and avoid this.

Spelling & Grammar

Ahh, the old spelling and grammar. Yep, we don't like to read roleplays where we have to guess what words mean. Please check over all your roleplays for mistakes and, if possible, we advise doing roleplays on Microsoft Word or any program that has a spell checker. Don't be disheartened by this area if you're not a particularly great speller, it's not going to be be the end of the world, it's just more professional. Do your best, that's all we ask.

Angles/Rivalries

Come on, it happens to all of us now and then. You run out of ideas for a roleplay. Don't be discouraged, it happens to the best. However, the best way to get round this is by involving yourself in those angles and rivalries. Try to come up with your own angles and themes and then portray them in your roleplays. In my opinion, angles make feds exciting, more than anything else. Do your best to be creative and original in this area, but please don't just come up with an angle for the sake of it. Do it for a reason.

Detail

A good amount of relevant detail is required in your roleplays, otherwise you will gain few marks. However, having said this, I would rather read a 50 line roleplay that is relevant and entertaining, than read a 200 liner that just goes on about nothing. Though a 50 liner probably won't have enough detail to entertain the reader for a substantial period of time to gain any real credit. Please try and get somewhere in between and you should be fine.

Design/Layout

Now you don't have to be a graphic designer to create a successful roleplay, but it's far easier and relaxing to read a neat looking one than a distorted one that is all over the place and makes it difficult to get through. Using html is the most productive way of ensuring this. Please do your best to use html as well as anything else such as images, logos etc to make you roleplay look as good as possible.

Your Character

Alright now we get to your own personal character. First of all something that really pisses a President off, me included is when people say "you're a jobber". Now I have been watching wrestling for a short 4 years which means basially every Monday Night and in that span of time I have heard a wrestler use the word "jobber" MAYBE once or twice. In my 1 year of RolePlaying or E-Fed experience I have never used that word in a RolePlay, come on people it doesn't take very much common sense to figure out that it sounds really stupid.

Another thing that will get to me is when RolePlayers use E-Wrestling terms in their RolePlays. For example DO NOT use the word "bad roleplayer" in your RolePlay, like "jobber" it is just plain stupid. Call your opponent a bad Interviewer or something along those lines. There are more terms like that, don't use the word "E-Fed" call it a Federation, once again this doesn't belong in a RolePlay.

You think The Rock walks out to the ring every night not knowing what he is going to do? No of course not it is all planned out and that's what you have to do. All The Rock is doing is filling out his role. What is a role? If you ask me that question I will fire you from my Federation and ask you to quit E-Wrestling because you are really clueless if you don't know what a role is.

Conclusion

Now this isn't really something that I am really big on but a lot of Federation Presidents are. About how much cussing goes on Wrestling shows? Alright granted some does but not every other sentence. I don't got a problem with some swearing that's fine but every other sentence is freakin' ridiculous. You should know how much is enough so don't go over that.

Here are a list of things that you definetly do NOT want to do in E-Wrestling. They're really annoying.

Ok I hope that helped you to understand the world of roleplaying that little bit better, now you should be ready for the WWRF and any other feds you wish to be in.

Below is the second part of the Roleplay Guide telling you about HTML etc!!!

Ok here is the second part of my Roleplay Guide that will help you in the WWRF. If you follow these guidelines you wont go far wrong, all they need is your creativity to make your roleplays shine.

The first rule of roleplaying is NOT to fill out a 1-2 line roleplay. These will do more harm than good. Even if you want to get a small message across make it worth reading!

On the Roleplay Board do NOT ask any Out of Character questions. We do have a OOC board and you can always e-mail me,Vince McMahon

Even though you are pushed to do at least 3 roleplays a week. Try and make them quite long. I would rather see 3 really good ones than 5 or 6 average ones.

When setting out a Roleplay there are many points to think about:
Where is the Roleplay taking place?? Is it in the arena, backstage?? Introduce the roleplay, eg
(Vince McMahon music's plays as he makes his way to the ring) or
(Vince McMahon is backstage with Michael Cole).
Same with the exit of the character.
More advanced roleplayers can improve on that and make it more detailed.

When writing a roleplay do NOT use capital letters all over the place. Punctualitly is very important, and it is this that seperates the good roleplays from the bad. Here are a couple of roleplaying code to make it look that little bit better.
Put these in brackets to make them work!

  • Font Special Effects
  • Bold like this! - <B>Bold like this!</B>
    Italics like this! - <I>Italics like this!</I>
    Underline like this! - <u>Underline like this!</u>

A page break - <BR>Use this instead of pressing return!</BR>

    Scrolling text! - <marquee>Scrolling text!</marquee>

Remeber to end any of these actions put a / in the brackets aswell as the code.

Those are the basics now onto what makes your roleplays simply that damn good.

The use of pictures is very useful. Here is the code, remember to put them in brackets
    img src="Yourpicture"

Also sound is very good. Here is the code for sound
    embed bgsound src="Themusic"

Videos can also be put in, here is the code for them.
    embed src="video"

Also when you are writing a roleplay don't forget to put your e-mail address and your name, along with a title that suits the roleplay!

Anything i forgot?? E-Mail me, Vince McMahon
