NO D IN BIG D

DALLAS -- Stu Barnes capped a hat trick with a short-handed goal and Jason Arnott scored twice and had an assist, leading the Dallas Stars past the Chicago Blackhawks 9-1 Friday night to match the most goals they've scored since moving to Texas.
Dallas, which hadn't scored more than three times in a period this season, had four goals in each of the first two periods. The game was so lopsided that when the Stars scored their sixth goal, the Blackhawks had taken six shots -- none of them going in.
Niko Kapanen scored with 2:52 left, giving the Stars their most goals since Feb. 1, 1995. With Dallas on a power play in the final minute, fans began chanting ``We want 10!'' and nearly got their wish. Chicago goaltender Craig Anderson prevented it with several solid saves, then angrily flicked the puck from his glove against the glass behind the net as time expired.
Bill Guerin, Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow also scored for Dallas. Kapanen had three assists, while Guerin, Sergei Zubov, Philippe Boucher and Antti Miettinen each had two assists.
Barnes opened the scoring 1:31 in. Then, midway through the first period, the Stars scored three goals in a span of 4 minutes, 12 seconds, sending goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin to the bench.
Anderson wasn't any better, allowing a pair of goals 56 seconds apart early in the second period. Rookie Mikael Holmqvist answered soon after for Chicago, breaking up the shutout.
The Stars got the goal back on Barnes' short-hander, which began with a steal at the Dallas blue line and ended with a low liner that went between Anderson's legs. He celebrated his first hat trick since Nov. 25, 1998, with a fist pump that Tiger Woods would've been proud of, holding his stick up in his pumping right arm for added oomph. He came in with one goal all season.
Down 7-1, the Blackhawks' frustration finally began pouring out with plenty of scrums and penalties. Martin Lapointe got a fighting major and a slashing minor late in the second period, and Arnott scored his second goal of the game on the ensuing power play.
The porous defense continues a sorry trend for Chicago. This was the sixth straight game the Blackhawks have allowed at least four goals; they lost five of them.
While Dallas improved its home record to 4-4-1, the Stars remained unbeaten in their last 10 games against the Blackhawks, going 9-0-1 since April 2002.
Dallas goaltender Marty Turco returned to the lineup after a two-game layoff and stopped 18 shots.
