The NFHS has ruled that the referee may now award both a takedown and a tech violation for fleeing.

SITUATION 21: Wrestler A is attempting a takedown. A is successful in controlling the ankle of B. A lifts B by the ankle in an attempt to finish the takedown, B turns away and hops toward the boundary line. B goes out of bounds while A completes the takedown with both of his feet finishing in bounds while simultaneously establishing control over B. The referee awards two points for the takedown and an additional point for the technical violation for avoiding wrestling.

RULING: Correct. If, in the judgment of the referee, B was attempting to flee the mat, a penalty shall be awarded in addition to any other points earned. (5-2-1; 7-3-2)
