Morgan could hardly believe this had happened. Here she was slung over her father’s enemy’s horse and unable to do a thing about it, and once word reached her father neither would he. Sir David of the North had been making advances towards her but she had politely turned them down. They had practically grown up together, till David’s father Lord Ric had placed his wandering eye on Morgan’s father’s mistress. Since then they had been bitter rivals, and Morgan figured they soon would be bitter in laws. She could only imagine the yuletide dinners. The horse stopped for a moment as if he were unsure of the way.
“ Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your way around these woods?”
“ Quiet Morgan, we still have a long journey.”
“ Why are you saying we? The only willing party here is you! I was perfectly happy sleeping in my nice warm bed. As a matter of fact you might as well take me back right now. The minute my father, uncle and betrothed find I’m missing there won’t be a place you can hide.” He let out a laugh.
“ Your betrothed will do nothing. If anything he’ll run to escape your father’s anger. The only reason Shane is your betrothed is because your father wants in on a piece the King’s territory, and seeing as Paul has taken care of Lady Stephanie that would only leave Shane.”
“ My Father and Uncle will come for me, and you think I’m going to marry you?”
“ Morgan you forget that there are ways to get you to give your consent, and who’s to say that you didn’t run off with me?”
“ Please David, don’t try. Will you at least let me ride like a normal person?”
“ No, because if I do you’ll jump off. I’m smarter than I look Morgan.” He did accommodate her by placing his cloak in between the horse’s withers and her body. They didn’t stop again till nightfall, but by that point they were well out of her father’s kingdom. When it came time for them to sleep he took no chances with her and tethered himself to her making it hard for her to escape. The next morning he gave her sometime to conduct her morning ministrations and that’s when she took her chance. The minute he turned his back she raced down the path. David turned back to see why she was being so quiet and saw a glimpse of her amber hair as she disappeared down the path. He mounted his horse and gave chase. He laughed at her as he raced after her. She was very fleet of foot, but she was no match for his horse. Morgan burst into a clearing and saw a miracle before her. About a hundred yards away sat her father, uncle, and their army. They saw her and started to make their way towards her. David came tearing out of the forest and snatched her back up causing her to let out a scream. He saw his dilemma and raced back into the forest with an army on his heels. Fortunately one of his father’s strongholds was not far. It came into view and Morgan started to fight harder. He crossed under the gate just as it closed.
Lord Mark’s army stopped just inside of the woods so they wouldn’t be seen. He had hardly believed what he had seen when Morgan came running from the woods. His disbelief turned to rage when David rode up behind her and pulled her onto his horse. The two brothers now stood in the woods contemplating attacking the lone fortress. Their men were tired, hungry, and in need of rest. But on the other side he would not lose his chance to take the king’s throne from him. If his daughter married the prince then they would be next in line for the throne, at which point the brothers could use Morgan to lay some plans for them. Mark’s brother tapped him on the shoulder.
“ Do we attack?”
“ Not right now. Send the troops on their way. I won’t have them start a riot. I promised them they would get to return to their families after the last battle and I intend to keep my word. We will need to send word to Shane about this.” Kane nodded and turned to go talk to the commanding officers. Mark continued to watch the fortress carefully. David reined his horse to a stop and swung Morgan over his shoulder and into the castle. As he carried her she screamed every curse and profanity in the book at him. He debated taking her up to the tower seeing as he would have to take an outside staircase; at the moment it was the only way to protect her from his father’s men. He opened the door and walked onto the upper level of the fortress and started to climb to staircase. Mark froze when he saw David step out with Morgan slung over his shoulder. He could hear what she was yelling at him all the way in the woods. Mark saw David reach a door about midway up and enter it. They then disappeared into the tower. He took the last set of stairs two at a time before reaching another door. He took the key unlocked the door and stepped in. David tried to gently set her down but her fighting wasn’t helping. The minute she was on her feet she lunged for him and the door. David easily stopped her and crossed her arms in front of her. He then tucked his knee in between her legs and boosted her into a sitting position on his thigh stilling any attempt to kick him. He figured with all her fighting that she had to be tiring soon. When her voice began to fade he spoke to her.
“ Morgan if you value your virtue or your life you will stay in here until I believe it is safe to return to my home. There are men that have not seen a woman in three years; I want you to think about what they would do to you if they got a hold of you. Your chamber door and the outer door will be locked. I will be sleeping in the next room so don’t try anything. I’m going to let go and see about getting you some actual clothes. If you try anything I swear I will take you down the bottom of this tower and lock you up with the rats.” He slid her off of his knee and careful let go of her wrists. She stood where he left her trying to set him on fire with her eyes. David shut and locked the door leaving Morgan to contemplate her fate. A pigeon fluttered into the small window and landed on the bed. She picked it up and found a message attacked to its leg. She carefully untied it and set the bird down there was a very cryptic message from her father
When is he leaving? She found a pen and
wrote back, and sent the bird on its way.
Mark saw the small bird land next to him and waited for him to remove the message. He growled at the answer she gave. When he feels it is safe to return to his home. That meant that once they saw the army head homeward then he would once again leave. Morgan waited for an answer but she never got one. David came back up the stairs with a dress from one of the former residents, and all the necessary undergarments. He stood outside while she changed and came back in.
“ Your father’s army is leaving. It’s now safe for us to travel again.”
“ The is no way I am riding the remainder of this trip slung over your saddle.” He contemplated her for a moment before agreeing.
A few hours later he mounted his horse and had Morgan placed behind him. David lifted his arms and the guards pulled hers around his torso. They bound her wrists in front of him making sure she would not have anyway to jump off. Before she could utter a semblance of protest he spurred the horse forward and out of the gate. Mark swung his leg over his horse and gave chase with Kane on his heels. David turned when Morgan let out an overjoyed squeal. He saw the brothers right behind him.
“ Your father actually thinks he’s going to catch me?”
“ He can and he will.”
“ Not likely, he doesn’t know these woods as well as I do.” Morgan saw that they were approaching what seemed to be a cliff.
“ David stop.” He urged his horse on faster. “ David your going to us killed!” The last word turned into a scream as horse, rider, and passenger flew into the air and seconds later landed across the ridge onto the earth a few feet below. Mark, and Kane came to screeching halt watching David disappear into the dense vegetation. After a few more miles he brought his horse to walk.
“ Tell my lady where are your Father and Uncle now?” In truth they had back their own horse up and jumped the ridge and were now back in pursuit. David had long since gone off the main road and nearly laughed when they came tearing by. They rode until David’s home was in sight. As they reached the gate there were two very large figures waiting for him. Morgan looked around her captors shoulder and smiled while letting out another excited squeal.
“ Horrible sir you asked me where my Father and Uncle were and now I believe they stand before you.” Her father spoke.
“ Morgan it’s safe for you to get off the horse.” She pulled at the ropes but found it useless, they were as tight as they had been that morning.
“ I’m afraid she can’t.” He moved into a little more light so they could see her predicament. “ You know my lord it’s not wise to leave your maiden daughter so open to an attack. Any scoundrel could have walked out with her.” Morgan glared at his back.
“ However you beat them all to it didn’t you David? Now undo my wrists and let me go.”
“ Morgan I’m not playing this time.” Before her father or uncle could react David spun his horse and headed towards his fathers home. They crested a hill and there it sat. He turned to see the brothers behind him again. He shot thru the doors before they were closed and locked. Morgan saw one last glimpse of her family before they were shut out.
Lord Ric looked up from his meal when his son burst through the door with a struggling Lady Morgan on his shoulder.
“Hello father! I hope you don’t mind if I brought company. Also do you know where I could find a clergyman? I wish to marry the lady before the night in over.”
“ Isn’t she betrothed to Shane?”
“ She was, but I found out that when we were babies you and Lord Mark promised us to each other. I’m merely carrying out the arrangement. Plus this will give us the right to Lord Marks kingdom without ever having to fight a battle for it.”
“ You arrogant bastard! My father will never agree to this!”
Morgan was once again placed in a spare room but a least this one had a window. She opened it and looked out onto the darkened plan hoping to catch any glimpse of her father. A hook landed into the hard stone making her jump. She looked down and saw her Uncle scaling up the side of the castle. When he reached the top she tried to help him over. He straddled the wall and pulled the small form into his arms. Morgan clung very close to him as he scaled back down the wall. When they reached the bottom he mounted his horse and rode away. Both could’ve sworn they heard David scream after her. Mark saw his brother ride up and help the small figure that was with him off of the large horse. Morgan practically tackled her father when she was back on the ground.
“ What happened, what did he do?”
“ He didn’t do anything to me.”
“ What did he want?”
“ He wanted to honor a marriage contract that you and his father agreed to when we were babies. He said that if it were honored it would give them the right to your land without ever having to fight a battle for it.” They rode well into the night trying to get out of enemy territory safely. Mark looked over to his daughter, fast asleep and resting her head on her Uncles back. When they reached the border they stopped.
“ Do you want me to bring her home or you want to wake her up?”
“ I have a better plan, take her home with you, and keep her there till I can make arrangements with the King and Shane.”
“ Alright” The brothers split and Taker watched his future rid off with his brother. He continued onto the Kings summer palace to try and make arrangements to have to wedding take place. For some odd reason Vince was reluctant to go through it. He had had no problem marrying off Stephanie, but his son? The King had balked at three other marriages prier to Mark introducing Morgan to him.
David rode after them determined not to lose this chance. The day he heard Morgan had been promised to the heir to the throne he became obsessed with stopping the marriage. The air started becoming cooler as Kane got closer to the coast and home. He felt Morgan shiver behind him. He stopped and carefully pulled her around so she was in front of him. He then wrapped her up in his own cloak to help keep her warm. By the time they reached his home the air was bone chilling. He easily carried the small figure into his house and up into a warm room. The last thing Taker needed was to lose the only child he had left. His son had died a year before while fighting in the Kings army. Before that Morgan had been Kane’s daughter more than she had been Mark’s. He was to busy training his son to notice his small daughter. Morgan had often come to stay with him and help keep him company. It was never imperative that Morgan wed until her twin Brother died. Now her father was a man possessed. Kane watched her sleep and shook his head. He couldn’t picture Morgan in the King’s Court anyways. The one time Mark had forced her to go she came home refusing to return. He decided it would be best to let her sleep. He went down into the great hall ready for breakfast. His second in command came down yawning and was surprised to see him.
“ Back from the hunt already? I would think your brother would want to take longer.”
“ We had to steal her out of Lord Ric’s castle. Her father has gone to see the king.”
“ He left her alone again?”
“ No she came with me.” Their seemed to be a glint of happiness in his voice, it made one wonder if Kane had any intention of letting her return to her fathers care at all. In the many years that Gregory had known Morgan he knew that she had spent more time with her Uncle than her actual father.
“ I imagine she’ll be thrilled to go to the palace and spend sometime with her betrothed.”
“ I sincerely doubt that. Have you forgotten what happened the last time she went? All I do know is that if she does become queen those women are in for a rude awakening.”
“ I’ve heard that the reason the king keeps balking is that his son has already married.”
“ Really?”
“ Yes, it seems that he has fallen in love with his mistress. That and the fact that he’s been going to visit father Nash as of late.”
“ The one that married the Princess to the Frenchman?”
“ That would be him.”
“ He could have many sins to confess.” Kane tried his best to hold back his laughter.
“ These weren’t for confession. The last time he had a woman with him, and it certainly was not Lady Morgan seeing as only you or her father are allowed to escort her out of the house.”
“ So I’m not even married and my husband already deceives me?”
“ I’m afraid so.”
“ Then he’ll have more hell to pay from my father than from me. Let her go into the snake pit. Perhaps she’ll have better luck with it than me. Sir Gregory it’s wonderful to see you alive and well.”
“ Thank you, I understand her ladyship had quite an adventure?”
“ Oh yes, if my family hadn’t come for me I probably would be married to my captor by now.” One of the pages rushed into the hall.
“ My lord! Your brother is here to see you.”
“ Is he in good or bad spirit?”
“ Bad”
“ Very well let him in.” Morgan watched her father come storming into the room, eye’s a blaze.”
“ I take it by your mood that meeting with the King did not go well.”
“ Shane wed his mistress.” He was speaking through gritted teeth.
“ That’s not to bad.”
“ It gets worse.”
“ Daddy what happened?”
“ Sir David has asked the King to grant him your hand.”
“ On what grounds?”
“ On the grounds of the agreement that I made with his father.”
“ I thought that was broken when you two parted company!”
“ Apparently not. David is on his way to our home to fetch you.”
“ Did the King grant the request?”
“ He wishes to speak with her first.”
“ Then I’ll tell him of Sir David’s actions as of late and he’ll deny the request. Does this mean I’m going to have to go back to court?”
“ No the king is coming to you.”
“ He’s coming here?”
“ Yes.” Gregory turned to his friend.
“ I’ll go make the plans, and have everything ready for you.” He rushed out of the room and down to the kitchens.
David had been overjoyed when he heard that Shane had already married. Morgan was now free he noticed that a few of the other courtiers seemed thrilled that she was now available.
A week later Morgan looked down at her dress and frowned. She felt like a peacock and probably looked like one as well. At least she would only have to look like this for a few days. Her father looked just as uncomfortable, and her Uncle looked out of place. All of them preferred the peace and quiet of home rather than the noise of the city, or the palaces. They waited for what seemed like hours.
“ I wonder what’s keeping them?” Their answer came when a royal guard showed up led by Sir David.
“ This can’t be good.” Morgan had returned to her chambers to rest, and Mark was not about to hand her over. The head guardsman spoke to them.
“ Honorable sirs, due to security reasons the King has had to stay at the summer palace. We were sent here to escort Lady Morgan.”
“ Then why did he come with you?”
“ I want to ensure my brides safety.”
“ I’m not your bride yet, and I never will be. Not after the king hears of your scurrilous behavior.”
“ Her Uncle and I will escort her. She’ll be more than safe with us.”
Kane made faces at her the entire time trying to loosen her nerves. The guard rode in front and behind them keeping watch. David tried to ride along side Morgan but she wouldn’t let him pass. She was doing her best to keep up with her uncle. They came to an abrupt halt All of them heard a distant rumbling and turned towards it. The brothers and their commanders gathered around Morgan. She placed her hand on the hilt of the sword resting by her thigh. They soon saw the source of the sound. Enemy banners crested the hill. They were all closer to Marks home than Kane’s. They all turned and raced for the large stone structure. Morgan and David raced past the brothers and made their way for the gate. Soon all of them crossed through and prepared themselves for a siege. Morgan raced up to her chambers to change. All of them raced to change. Morgan could hear the armor clanking out in the courtyard. She came back down ready for a fight. She raced outside and up into one of the turrets to keep watch. Her Uncle called up to her.
“ What do you see?”
“ They’ve turned they’re heading for the palace.” She climbed back down and walked over to them. “ Who is it?”
“ King Eric, he’s seeking vengeance for his daughter.”
“ Against the King?”
“ His daughter is Shane’s bride. He brought her back with him after one of the wars.”
“ I thought they couldn’t marry without her fathers consent.”
“ There’s suspicion that she’s with child. It might be wise for us to seek safety.”>
The night they all dined in the courtyard each taking turns watching the dark countryside. Mark had made his daughter take the first watch so he could get her indoors as fast as he possibly could. She protested the whole time but was quickly silenced by a hard look from her father. She sat up in her chambers contemplating her fate. Since her brothers death her father had become stone. He had had such hopes for Michael, but they fell through at his death. She missed her brother terribly. Both had been very close and could often sense when the other was in trouble. Now there was nothing but a void. She fell into a restless slumber and awoke to clashing of swords. Morgan ran to the window and saw the castle ablaze and fighting below. David appeared in her doorway looking frantic.
“ Eric turned back in the night and is attacking the nobles.”
“ I can’t leave.”
“ Morgan if you stay here you’ll end up dead. Eric seeks to destroy everything.”
“ I’m not leaving my family!” Both heard voices and looked at the other again.
“ We’ll return in the morning, I swear it.” He held out his hand to her and she cautiously took it. They came down the back stairs and snuck out of the rear entrance. Both of them watched the flames rise and then gradually fall then burn out. Soon they saw Eric’s army marching towards their own king. David took her by the hand and led her back to her home. They desperately searched for any sign of life but the only people that had been left were the dead. Till they heard a moan, Morgan turned to see Gregory lying in a corner badly injured. She ran over to him and tried her best to examine the wound.
“ Morgan? But how?”
“ David and I escaped last night. What happened?”
“ They’ve taken your father, uncle, and David’s father prisoner, along with their armies.”
“ Are they alright?”
“ Kane was very badly burned in the flames. I’m not sure if he will survive.”
“ Did they say they would come back?”
“ Not until King Vincent was defeated.” David walked up behind her and helped her get Gregory back into the castle. Her father’s chambers had been the only room that hadn’t been destroyed. Both took turns watching him thru the night. Morgan walked out into the courtyard to get some fresh air when something butted her on the shoulder. She turned to see her father’s horse standing before asking for a good scratching. She smiled and obliged him. She could just envision her father scolding her for spoiling him, but she just could resist. David walked out to see her loving on the large animal. Both seemed lost, and were seeking comfort in the other. He cleared his throat getting her attention.
“ It might be wise for us to bury the dead. It’s not good to have festering corpses lying around.”
“ I’ll take titan and see if I can find help.”
“ No we don’t know who we can trust.”
“ We don’t have a choice.”
“ Yes we do.”
Morgan stayed with Gregory as David lit the pile of bodies that they had piled up. Over the coming weeks Gregory’s condition began to improve and he was soon able to move about and care for himself. David had been able to capture two other warhorses that had been running about the castle grounds. The three of them soon left the confines the castle and rode in the wake of King Eric’s army finding nothing but destruction.
Mark waited for any word on his brother. He knew that Morgan had gotten away which made him incredibly happy. Hopefully she would find a way to get to the Kings fortress and stay safe. He looked across the way to see Ric sitting with his head hanging down. No word had come about David. One of his most loyal commanders walked up to him and sat down next to him.
“ They left your brother at the last campsite. The doctors determined he was to injured to save.” The younger man watched his Lords hand tighten in rage.
Kane let out groan as the sun hit his burns. He shifted to get out of the piercing light. Suddenly he heard horses approaching. A distorted voice rang is his ears.
“ It came from over here!” He tried his best to focus his vision but failed. “ It’s Kane!” Three figures descended on him. A pair of soft hands touched his arm. He could make out the amber color of Morgan’s hair and smiled. He lifted his arm and moaned in pain.
“ Kane just rest, we’ll have you well in no time.” When he was well enough they moved him to another abandoned castle. It took them several months to nurse him back to health. In that time David continued chipping away Morgan’s reserve. He had watched her change from a small player to the head of her family. She had a strength he didn’t think she had. Gregory had continued her education in hand-to-hand combat. With her speed she could easily match any knight in the land. Word had trickled back to them that Eric had laid siege to the capital forcing the captured armies and nobles to fight against their own king. Within a week the city fell and they were under King Eric’s rule. Kane had insisted they return to his home seeing as Mark’s castle had been destroyed by the fire. When they returned to the castle all let out a sigh of relief. < < Due to the unfortunate capture of her father Kane and Gregory had taken up the task of guardians keeping her contact with David to a minimum. David was out on patrol while Gregory, Morgan, and Kane all sat in a sitting room off of the great hall talking.
“ What will we do if they’re never released?”
“ They’ll eventually let the armies go they can be called back at any time, but the nobles are a different story. There are rumors of an uprising but they are only rumors and undoubtedly King Eric has heard them.”
“ And David’s proposal to marry?” Kane gave her a thoughtful look for a moment.
“ That is up to you. I know your father would never agree to it. You two have gotten closer since the attack and the marriage would be a strategist’s worst nightmare.”
“ Will his nobles come to seize the lands?”
“ They’ll try, but you have to remember Morgan they think Gregory and I are dead. You and David are unaccounted for. We have the element of surprise.”
Eric sat in the great hall of King Vincent’s summer palace smirking. There was one small hitch. His daughter had indeed married Shane and had a child on the way. The husband could be easily disposed of. He had also been informed that Sir David of the North and Lady Morgan of Callaway were not among the captured masses. Eric had no interest in Ric’s lands what so ever but the brother’s lands they were a different story. He also knew that Lady Morgan was of marrying age and her father was anxious to unload her.
“ Morley!”
“ Yes sire?” the younger man was bowed so low his head almost touched the floor.
“ Bring me Lord Mark of Callaway.”
“ At once.” Within a few moments Lord Mark was before him.
“ You sent for me?”
“ Yes I was wondering if you were still interested in marrying off your daughter?”
“ Depends”
“ Well let me rephrase myself then. When she and David are found, and you agree to my proposal then I won’t kill them.” Mark’s eyes grew large at the statement.
“ What is your proposal?”
“ I will return your lands, titles, and freedom if you become loyal to me and allow some of my troops to reside in you and your brother’s land. To seal the deal I want Lady Morgan’s hand as collateral.”
“ Sir David and several other nobles have already made a bid for her hand.”
“ Are there any agreements?”
“ Only one that was broken long ago. Morgan is the only kin I have left. I am concerned for her safety. I wish her no harm and will not agree to anything that will put her in danger.”
“ I swear to you that I will not hurt her.” He had a smile on his face that made Mark wonder. Eric’s first wife had met with a mysterious death; supposedly he had killed her for not giving him a son.
“ I would like some time to think on this. After all she is my only child.” Mark made sure to emphasize that point. Eric definitely noted it.
“ Very well, call for my chief of council when you have decided.” With a wave of his hand Mark was taken away. When it was sure he was out of site hunters were brought in.
“ Bring me Lady Morgan of Callaway alive, mostly unharmed, and virtue intact.”
“ And Sir David my lord?”
“ If he happens to be killed defending the lady then there’s no harm done. Just ensure he won’t return to stop the ceremony.” They bowed and left leaving him with his Chief Council. He looked out the window to the old gothic tower.
“ Morley”
“ Yes sire?”
“ Make preparations for my future wife to live in the old tower. Once she’s there I want constant guard placed on her and no one is granted access to her expect for me.”
“ Not even her father?”
“ After the wedding have him banished from the palaces on
pain of death and a unit placed at his and his brother’s homes. Lord Mark is
one of the few educated nobles. I don’t want that to ruin my set plans. <
Father Nash rode along the countryside towards the Brother’s lands as he passed Lord Marks home he sighed a burnt shell just like the rest. Word had spread that Eric now sought Lady Morgan’s hand. Hunter’s had been sent out all over the kingdom in search of her. The aging priest only hoped that she was still able to marry. For if she wasn’t then death surely awaited her. He came to the fork in the road and turned towards Lord Kane’s home. Surely his body had been returned to his home so it could be buried. The cold wind whipped about the lone rider and soon the ancient castle stood before him. Whole and untouched, ran along the paths keeping watch. He spotted a white head looking down to him.
“ Can it be?” Had David survived?
“ Open the gate!” Nash patiently for the bridge to be lowered and the gate opened. He rode in unable to believe his eyes. Before him stood Lord Kane, Sir’s Gregory and David, and walking out of the castle was Lady Morgan. He dismounted and approached them all dumbfounded.
“ You’re all alive and well, but how?”
“ Come in father it’s rather cold and a long tale.”
“ So David you and Lady Morgan escape without harm?”
“ Yes we returned and found Gregory barely alive. When he was well we went in search of the camps to find our fathers and that’s how we found Kane. All those that are here are survivors that we have saved.”
“ Father Nash have you any word about them? Any news from the city at all?”
“ I have much news. The city has fallen and I fear for the ladies safety.”
“ Why my safety?”
“ Eric seeks your hand in marriage. If your father does not agree then he will have you killed. He has sent out hunters looking for both David and you my lady. I fear David will never make to the palace. I’m sure the hunters have orders to kill him.”
“ My niece can not marry.”
“ Why?”
“ Because she is already wed. The Bishop stopped here on his way to the convent. He was more than happy to marry them.”
“ Has it been consummated?”
“ No not at this moment.”
“ I am waiting for my fathers return.”
“ Then you will have a long wait. I fear you may never see your father again child.”
“ Is he not well?”
“ The King has given orders that your father is to banished from the city on pain of death.”
“ No!” A page came rushing into the hall.
“ My lord hunters are approaching the castle. They seek the Lady Morgan.”
“ Keep them outside the gates, and do not inform them that we are here.”
“ Yes my lord.” He ran back out of the hall. Morgan looked terrified.
“ What will we do?”
“ If the marriage has not been consummated then it can be annulled.”
“ Has my brother agreed to the marriage?”
“ As of when I left no.”
“ This is what we will do. Father will you escort my niece to the city?”
“ Of course.”
“ Morgan I want you to dress as if in mourning.” David, Gregory and I will stay here and think of a plan. If I know my brother he will try to stall this as long as possible. What ever you two do, do not mention the marriage and the fact that the three of us live.”
“ Right.” Morgan hurried up the stairs to change. Father Nash made preparations to leave and saw Mark’s horse brought around. An unescorted Lady Morgan came out, veiled and dressed in black. The horsemen helped her onto her father’s horse and then opened the gates for the two. They were once again shut after they were through.
“ We have orders to take the lady to the king.”
“ The lady has buried her Uncle, and betrothed. She is in too fragile a state to travel with strangers.”
“ Who are you?”
“ Her spiritual guardian. I have known her since she came into this world and refuse to let her go to the alter alone.” They all turned away for a moment.
“ He’s just a rutty priest. If he gets in the way we can always kill him.”
“ Plus he’ll be able to confirm that we didn’t touch her ladyship.” The last part had a mocking tone. They turned back and gazed at the two. “ Right then lets go.”
They arrived at the palace late in the evening and Morgan was immediately taken from Father Nash’s care. The guards forcefully took her to the main hall. The war had ravaged the once beautiful city and palace. The doors opened and King Eric sat on his throne. The deposed King and his family sat in chains off to one side while her father stood to the other. Morgan’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of him.
“ Lady Morgan welcome. Your presence has been sorely missed. My condolences.”
“ Thank you sire.”
“ Will you remove your veil so I might gave upon your face. Rumors of your unusual beauty have spread throughout the land.” Morgan obliged his request her amber hair and green eye’s being lit by the candles in the hall. A whisper passed through the hall.
“ Come closer.” She took a step forward and stopped.
“ Why did you stop?”
“ Forgive me sire, I do not know how close I can get to a King. I merely wish to show you the respect you deserve.” She had to choke the last part out. Please let that have been the right thing to say. He turned to Vincent.
“ Finally an intelligent individual who understand what I seek from my subject.” He turned back to see Morgan looking towards her father. “ Lord Morley.”
“ Yes sire.”
“ I’m sure the lady is tired from her journey. Take her to her new quarters and ensure she has everything she needs.”
“ Yes sire.” The larger man took her arm and began to pull her away. They walked past the normal quarters towards the older part of the palace.
“ I think we past where I’m supposed to go.”
“ No we haven’t. The King wants to ensure that no harm comes to you. The stopped at the door and Sir Morley unlocked it. Picking up an ancient torch he walked up the stairs pulling her behind him.
“ Surely he doesn’t mean to keep me in the tower.”
“ Don’t worry he’ll come see you when he gets the time to.” They reached the top and another door was unlocked. Morley pushed her in causing her to stumble to the cold stone floor.”
“ It’s a pity the rumors of your beauty are true. I also hope you got a good look at your father because that’s the last time you’ll ever see him. He slammed the door and threw the lock back into place. Morgan ran to door as he slid the barricade across it.
Mark watched them take her away powerless to stop what was to come. Eric had forced him into agreement he had bargained away his own blood. He stared out the window to the old tower. He was surprised to see it lit. Then he saw an all to familiar shadow in the window. He turned back to Eric who was looking at him.
“ You said no harm. I’m simply doing as you asked. You’ve held up your end of our deal. I’ll ask that you take your leave and never return. As of this moment you are banished from this city under penalty of death…Guards escort him out.” 15 came in to insure he left with out a fight. Lighting crashed overhead and rain began to fall. Titan was brought forward the saddle unchanged. He climbed on uncaring and rode out away from a battalion of spears pointed at him making sure he left. A voice made him stop.
“ Lord Mark wait!” He turned to see Father Nash galloping to catch him. When the older man stopped beside him Mark simply stared. “ I must speak with you.”
“ I’m listening.”
“ Not here, come with me to your brother’s castle.” They rode deep into the night coming to the gates at last. Mark was surprised to see it ablaze, shining like a star. The gates opened and they were ushered inside. Mark stood in shock at what he saw before him sat his brother alive, face and body scared. Kane stood up smiling a sad smile.
“ Brother” The two shook hands before embracing.
“ I thought you had died.”
“ I almost did, if Morgan, Gregory and David had not found me then I probably would have died. Did she make it alright?”
“ He’s locked her away and banished me. I’ll never see her again.”
“ You didn’t agree to the marriage did you?”
“ I had to agree or else he said he’d kill her.” <
“ This is going to get ugly very quickly. Father Nash did you happen to hear who was performing the services?”
“ The same Bishop that married her the first time.”
“ First time?”
“ While you were missing Morgan decided to honor the marriage contract between her and David. It was not consummated but I’m sure the Bishop will remember her.”
“ If Eric finds out Morgan could be in very serious danger.”
“ What do you mean locked her away?”
“ The king has placed the lady in the old tower under lock and key. The only one that is allowed to see her is the king and her maid.”
“ There is a band of rebels who are planning to march against Eric. Perhaps we could join them. Some of our army has been released along with Lord Ric’s. If we joined them then we might be able to drive Eric out of the city.”
“ What am I to do? I walk into the gates and they can kill me right there.”
“ You can take some of the troops and pretend to be defending yourself against the rebels.”
“ That could work.”
“ How will we stop him from hurting Morgan?”
“ I believe that’s where Father Nash can help us. Eric can’t deny her spiritual council and the Bishop will not be interested in sitting with her. If the good father can get to her then he will be able to keep her safe.”
“ We could go one further by delaying the Bishops arrival.”
“ How so?”
“ Capture him, bring him back here, and explain what’s going on.”
“ He could force Father Nash to do it.”
“ Not if the good father brings word of an enemy attack on Mark. He could say that Mark and his lands have been captured and are under control of the rebels. Eric seeks my and Marks lands. If they are captured then he would probably be willing to do just about anything to have them released.”
“ Hence we demand Morgan.”
“ Exactly, Gregory would you send word to the rebels that we would be more than willing to help.”
“ Of course.” The two had a pleased smirk knowing what was to come. What if we fail and Eric demands Morgan’s return?”
“ Well then Eric will be informed that Mark was forced to marry Morgan to the leader. With the Bishop presiding over the nuptials.”
Father Nash rode back to the city with the urgent news.
“ What!”
“ The rebels have captured Lord Mark and the bishop. Lord Mark sent me to warn you. I fear that they well make a run for the palace.”
“ How soon will they be here?”
“ Less than a day.”
“ Morley prepare the palace for a siege. Father I have another idea for you.” Nash was dragged up to the top of the tower and shoved in with Morgan. She was clad in the same black gown that he had brought her to the palace in. Her eye’s filled with tears the moment she saw him. He walked over to her arms open ready to comfort her as best could. She fell into them sobbing into his shoulder.
“ It’s alright child soon you will be free.”
“ How he keeps me locked in. I have not seen a soul since they brought me here. I keep asking for my father but they merely laugh.”
“ Your father is gone child, banished from the city the night you came.”
“ Then why have they let you see me?”
“ It seems that the Bishop has been…delayed and Eric
does not wish to wait. So they brought me here to get your confession.” The
hope in her eyes dimmed “ Not to worry child I have a plan to stall and help
will soon arrive.” He gave her a wink and whispered what she had to do.
The guards came running as the priest’s yells and Morgan’s groan filled the tower.
“ What is it father?”
“ The wedding must be delayed. The lady is quite sick it
might be poison.” Morgan began to increase her moans. The guards ran out to
inform the King of his bride’s sudden illness. <
A bird fluttered into the window with a message attached.
“ What does it say?”
“ The rebels are close. They tell us to stay where we are. Not to worry child this is almost over.
The brothers, Gregory and David sat waiting for the rebel leader to arrive.
“ Do we know who is leading this?”
“ No”
“ We must make sure he understands that his first demand is Morgan and Father Nash.” A messenger came in bowing low.
“ My lords, he has arrived.”
“ Show him in.” The page nodded to the door and the leader was brought in. He was in full armor and apparently refused to remove his helmet.
“ You refuse to show your face to those that help you?” His helmet came off and all sat in shock.
“ I simply like to make an entrance.”
“ Sir Paul of Levesque? Why are you not with your wife in the city?”
“ My wife and I escaped as the battle began. I tried to take the entire family but my father in law refused. So now at my wife, and mistresses insistence I fight to rid our country of Eric.”
“ Mistresses? You are not pleased with the princess?”
“ Her eye has fallen to Sir Andrew. We have a mutual understanding.”
“ I see, well we have a few stipulations that go with our help.”
“ Really?”
“ Yes Eric has captured Lady Morgan and is forcing marriage upon her. Father Nash has ridden ahead and is hopefully with her. If it comes to making demands we want you to demand Morgan’s release into your care.”
“ What if he refuses to release her? I mean if we are defeated he could very easily reclaim her. Besides he can marry her before the attack.”
“ The wedding has been stalled, perhaps canceled.” Mark looked to David and then to Paul.
“ If he refuses to release her then go by any means possible to get her out. I lost my son to him I will not lose my daughter.”
“ If you don’t mind me asking why are you not going to save her?”
“ The king has banished me from the city. The moment I step in they can kill me. Besides as far as Eric knows you and your troops have taken this castle and all its residents’ hostage.”
“ And seeing as he will wish to keep these lands he will do just about anything.” The Bishop came walking down less than thrilled that he had been imprisoned.
“ Bishop Johnson so good to see you.”
“ Explain to me why I am being detained?”
“ We wish to stop you from making a mortal sin by marrying an already married woman to another man.”
“ Bigamy?”
“ Lady Morgan who you married to Sir David is Eric’s betrothed.”
“ That’s a problem.”
“ If Eric finds out the Lady’s life could be in danger.” <
“ I can not help it if the entire world insists on being corrupted.” Kane made arrangements for Paul’s army to stay the night. When they came to feast in the Great hall Paul brought his wife and two mistresses.
“ Princess it’s wonderful to see you in good health.”
“ Thank you Lord Mark my condolences about your daughter.”
“ Eric will not harm her.”
“ It must be trying for you. Not being able to ride and save her yourself.”
“ I find it difficult but she will be returned to me in good time.”
“ Lord Kane seeing as this is your home would you mind if my wife, Lady Calista, and Lady Katie stay here for safety’s safe?”
“ I don’t mind as long as my brother does not mind looking after them.” Mark had his eye on Calista the entire time. Her long blond hair and shining brown eyes enticing him beyond belief, god how he wanted her.
“ I don’t mind in the least as long as Lady Calista keeps me company.”
“ Certainly my Lord.”
The next morning Mark watched as his hopes rode out with the rebel army. They had taken the bishop as a bargaining tool. The head of the guard walked up to the temporary lord and addressed him.
“ The castle is secured.”
“ Sir Paul’s women?”
“ All accounted for.”
“ Where is the Lady Calista?”
“ Near your quarters as you requested. My lord about the raven haired one.” Mark turned to look at Baptista for a moment.
“ You fancy her?”
“ Yes”
“ Then by all means pay her a visit when you are off duty.”
“ Sir Paul won’t mind?”
“ What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. I’m going to pay lady Calista a visit. Mark sure we are not disturbed.”
“ Yes my lord.”
Baptista stood outside Katie’s door claiming that he was wanting to insure her safety. He was the Head of the Guard so it was a viable excuse. Hearing the bellman chime ten pm he smiled and turned to the door. His shift was up. Carefully knocking on the door he waited for her to grant him entrance before walking in.
“ My shift has ended my Lady is there anything you need before I go?”
“ Stay the night. It bothers me to be alone.” He smiled as he shut the door and walked to the bed. Her raven hair shimmering in the candlelight beaconing him closer, he carefully sat next to her extending his hand to stroke her long hair.
“ You’re very beautiful.”
“ Thank you.”
“ Will Sir Paul mind if I stay with you?”
“ The only way he’ll know is if you tell him.” He leaned in kissing her lightly on the lips at first so he wouldn’t frighten her. She kissed him back harder asking more of him. He broke the kiss to pull away the sheet she had wrapped herself in. It fell away to reveal her nude form. She gave him a sly smile as he took in a sharp breath. His hands traveled to her sides feeling her soft velvet alabaster skin. She let out a little moan as they moved to her thighs and hips. She came up onto her knees to begin to remove his armor. He aided her small hands and soon his upper body was nude. She ran her hands over his chest and stomach getting the feel for it.
“ Such strength and power. Tell me where are you from?”
“ Far away from here. I was brought back as a prisoner of war yet Lord Kane set me free and offered me a chance to protect his home. He saved my life. What of your home you don’t seem to be from these lands.”
“ I come from the east. My family traveled all over these lands till Eric’s army attacked us. Sir Paul rescued me from Eric’s troops but now I wish it had been you.” She leaned forward and kissed his lips once more while running her hands along his abs. Baptista placed one of his hands on the back of her head drawing her forward to once again taste her soft lips. They were like a drug to him causing him to become bolder each time he tasted them. He then kissed her chin moving down her body stopping to provide attention to her rose colored nipples, and her small navel before coming upon her most sensitive area. He opened her legs and pushed her back so he could get better access to what he desired. Licking her lips he very carefully spread them open licking the delicate flesh as if to memorize it’s texture. He purposefully stayed away from her clit to have her enjoy the other sensations he was creating. She brought her hands down rubbing his short hair hoping that would encourage him to lavish attention on her center. This made him avoid it even further. When she was about to beg for mercy one of his fingers slid up into her while his mouth settled a top her clit. She let out a moan of appreciation as he began to work her with both his mouth and hands. As she began to climb towards an orgasm he inserted another finger to begin to prepare her for him. He did not wish to hurt this delicate angel that he was giving such wonderful pleasure to. She started to get closer to peaking he inserted a third finger while his other hand loosened his trousers letting them fall to the floor. Just as she was about to peak he stopped his ministrations and let her cool down a little. He did leave his fingers inside of her so she wouldn’t have a problem adjusting to his size. She let out a frustrated groan when he stopped.
“ Would you be so cruel as to deny me the ultimate pleasure?”
“ No but I do not want you spent right away.” He gave her a cunning smile before rising up and placing his shaft right in front of his hand. Slowly he removed his fingers replacing them with his penis. He very slowly slid into so he would not hurt her in anyway. As he entered her he licked his fingers clean. His speed was torture to her. It had to be the most erotic moment of her life; Sir Paul had never tried to pleasure her merely using her as a distraction. This man was intent on making this as sensual for her as it was for him. In a way it seemed like he was worshipping her. He let out a moan when he was all the way in.
“ I many ways I wish I had found you beautiful one. It seems such a shame to waste such beauty on Sir Paul.” As he spoke he began to move back out of her. He very slowly began to increase his speed while maintaining his control. He soon brought her and himself to the first of many orgasms that night.
Mark sat in his chambers making plans to rebuild his home since he did not wish to impose on his brother any longer than was necessary. He looked out the window to see Lady Calista walking along the wall looking out onto the ocean. Her golden locks sparkling in the light as the wind brushed them away from her face. He set down his piece of graphite and walked out of the room to join her. He approached her very slowly so he wouldn’t startle her.
“ I take it you like our view of the ocean?”
“ Yes my lord, it reminds me of my home.”
“ I take it your home was attacked by Eric.”
“ Yes Sir Paul was staying with our family when it happened. He saved me from the fire that destroyed the city. I owe him my life. Do you know Sir Paul well?”
“ No, I stay away from the royal court. My brother and I prefer the peace of the country.”
“ I see. It’s a shame for you daughter to have never attended.”
“ I’ve found most of the women there to be false. Many of the unmarried ones seek a rich husband.”
“ And what are you seeking in a woman?”
“ A companion for the rest of my days.”
“ How did your first wife pass?”
“ Consumption.”
“ I’m so sorry.”
“ So am I. I’ve always wished there was a woman around to raise Morgan that’s why I sent her to her uncle. He was always surrounded by women so I figured a few of them might rub off on her.”
“ I’ve heard many wonderful things about her. It’s most unfortunate about her situation with Eric. I only hope she does not meet with the same fate as his first wife.”
“ So do I.”
Eric paced his throne room waiting for his daughter to come to him. Father Nash had come down from the ailing Morgan in order to over see the annulment. Eric’s daughter walked in nervously looking at Shane.
“ Mary I want you to sign this annulment and end this foolishness.”
“ No, I love Shane and I’m not going to end this marriage.” Eric advanced on his daughter furious with her answer.
“ If I have to us force I will.”
“ I thought you would be happy if we united the two Kingdoms.”
“ Happy? So Vince can take my kingdom for you once I die? I don’t think so.”
“ Father please.”
“ No either you sign or I will end this marriage with your husbands blood!”
“ No!” Eric moved for the manacled Shane but Mary jumped in the way letting the dagger sink into her body. The minute the dagger was in Eric quickly pulled away letting her fall to the floor. Father Nash rushed over to her beginning the last rites. Eric stood over her watching the blood drip from the knife. Shane stood in shock unable to believe what he had seen. He heard Mary’s faint voice calling for him but the chains wouldn’t let him get to her. Father Nash finished the last rites watching her fade before going limp. Just as she passed away a guard came rushing into the room.
“ The Rebel army has reached the city. They’re attacking as we speak and they fly under Vincent’s banners.”
“ Gather the captured armies.”
“ We can’t they’re rebelling against us with Lord Ric leading them.”
“ Get my horse and prepare the back gate.” He walked out of the room heading for the tower.” Father Nash could only watch in terror.
“ Please father protect Morgan till David can reach her.” Shane heard the priests mumble.
“ David? David of the North? Why do you wish him to save her? I demand that you tell me, or I will have your head placed on a spike in the square!”
“ He is her husband sire. They married in secret.”
“ That can’t be, she was promised to me!”
“ You married Lady Mary. When the siege of your fathers lands occurred David saved Morgan from dying by getting her out of her father’s castle. The two have been inseparable since.” Vince looked at his son then at the priest.
“ Has he slept with her?”
“ No my King.” Vince got a smile.
“ Then there will be an annulment but it will not be one that anyone expects. Go and draw up the papers, it will be easy to get her signature. Also get the keys to these chains, we have to stop Eric from getting away with the prize.” Father Nash bowed leaving the royal family to wait. He found the keys rushing them back to the King. He was then locked in a study to draw up the papers.
Eric rushed to the tower hearing Morgan’s moans echo off of the walls. He burst into the room startling her. Eric dropped the bloody dagger grabbing her wrists yanking her off of the bed. Both could here the battle raging outside.
“ No!”
“ I will gain your father’s lands in one way or another.” Eric began to pull her down the steps. As the two struggled towards the back gate the rebel forces were able to break into the older part of the castle. David rushed up to see Eric holding Morgan. She was still dressed as if in mourning. It was obvious she had not been let out of her prison since she had come to the palace. David had his sword drawn ready to fight. Eric tossed Morgan to the floor drawing his sword.
“ You will not leave this city with her.”
“ Then come and take her.” David advanced and the two clashed swords. Each man fighting for his own reasons Eric fighting for power, David for love. Eric easily held the early advantage but David’s youth soon added him in defeating his rival. Eric sat on his knees while David held his sword to Eric’s throat. Vincent’s guards soon swarmed them dragging Eric off. They helped Morgan up from the floor. She pushed away running to David happier than she could ever remember being.
“ I knew you’d come. I was so scared Eric would get me out of the city.”
“ If he had I would’ve come after you.” A clanking of armor and soon a dozen spears surrounded them. David looked over Morgan’s shoulder to see Shane walk up drawing his sword.
“ Sir David thank you for saving my betrothed.”
“ Morgan turned to Shane avoiding the spears that surrounded them.”
“ Shane you’re married.”
“ Not anymore, Eric killed Mary in a fit of rage. Now if you let go of him I’ll let him walk out of here. Otherwise he’ll be arrested on the charge of treason.”
“ One condition.”
“ Yes?”
“ That my father’s banishment is lifted.”
“ Of course.”
“ And if you go back on this I’ll throw myself out of the nearest window.” Shane let out a sigh.
“ Very well, in fact David can serve as the messenger.” Morgan let go of him walking to Shane while the Guards held him in place. “ With all these rouges running about I think it will be safer to return you to your chambers.”
“ You will not lock me in that tower again!”
“ Unfortunately that’s the safest place for you. But I will see that you’re bathed and given a change of clothes. She looked back to David. He nodded his head for her to go. “ Make sure David safely finds his way out.” Shane pulled Morgan along back to the tower while David was pushed back to the back gate.
Kane, Paul, and Gregory watched the Bishop ride into the city not knowing that they were helping Shane get his way. They saw David come riding out of the city and towards them.
“ Have we won?”
“ Yes Eric is defeated.” Kane looked for Morgan but saw no sign of her.
“ Where’s Morgan.”
“ Shane continues to hold her captive.”
“ What?!”
“ Eric killed his own daughter in a fit of rage and now Shane wishes to honor the contract between he and Morgan.”
“ He can’t, not after everything we’ve done to save her.”
“ Gentlemen we just aided Shane by sending him the Bishop.”
“ Damn.”
“ Morgan did get the ban lifted. So Mark can return to the city.”
“ There’s nothing more we can do here, might as well head back my brother. He will not take this well.
Earlier that morning long after all had gone to sleep a figure rode up to the side of the castle under princess Stephanie’s window. The man threw a claw into the hard stone causing her to open the window so it would not be broken. The figure then scaled the side of the castle only to be greeted by Stephanie’s open arms.
“ Andrew, I knew you’d come.”
“ Has Paul gone?”
“ Yes and the other ladies are keeping the head of the guard and the temporary lord. We are free to leave.”
“ Your husband won’t mind?”
“ My husband is to busy with the other two to notice me. Besides it’s you I love.” They passionately kissed before Andrew scaled back down the wall and riding off with Stephanie.
Calista and Katie sat alone in the great hall while Lord Mark and Baptista checked the castle for Stephanie.
“ I wonder how long it will take for them to realize that Andrew came for her?”
“ It was only a matter of time. So did you and the captain of the guard have fun?”
“ Yes I might stay here with him. He made me feel so treasured and loved.” Calista smiled at her friend.
“ That’s wonderful.”
“ What about you and Lord Mark?”
“ I’m playing hard to get. He’s been very attentive lately.”
“ Lets hope all goes well.” The two men returned to the room smiling at the two women. “ Good morning ladies.”
“ Good Morning, I trust you slept well Lord Mark?”
“ Actually my dreams were blessed by a golden haired angel.” Calista blushed.
“ Did you find the Princess?”
“ No do either of you know where she went?”
“ I imagine with her lover. She’s been threatening to run off with him for forever. I say good riddens.”
“ I expect Sir Paul to return in a few days. The siege shouldn’t last to long.”
“ I imagine you’ll be anxious to see your daughter again.”
“ I only hope she’s well. Eric’s temper is notorious. I imagine you’ll be happy to see Sir Paul.”
“ It depends on how he takes the news of Stephanie’s departure.”
“ Of course.”
“ Lord Mark perhaps you could take me for a stroll outside of the castle.”
“ Certainly, Katie would you care to join us?”
“ If Baptista is allowed to come with us.” Mark turned to him smirking. Baptista stood stunned for a moment uncertain of what to do. Mark walked over to him and slapped him on the back forcing a response out of him.
“ Yea…”
“ You’ll have to excuse him Ladies he’s not to good with the fairer race.” Calista looked at Katie who disagreed.
“ I’d say that he’s wonderful with women.” Baptista smiled at her.
The four of them walked around the outside of the castle Lord Mark explaining the history of the castle and it’s surrounding land. Katie and Baptista were lost in a world of their own sneaking away from the tour. Mark didn’t notice till they stopped and looked at the view. Calista laughed at his confused expression.
“ I truly think that everyone around me is being sucked into the earth because they keep vanishing.” Calista continued to laugh at his face.
“ I believe they snuck off when we passed the stables.”
“ I see.”
“ I think it’s wonderful she found love. We should all be that lucky.”
“ Love is fleeting.”
“ I take it you have not loved in a very long time.”
“ Not since my wife.” Calista stopped walking.
“ Is that why you sent Morgan away? Because you could not return her love?” Mark looked at her for a moment.
“ I told you why I sent her away.”
“ As much as your brother chases after women I very much doubt that he exposed his impressionable niece to them.”
“ What gives you the right to say this?”
“ I cared for your son as he died. The battle occurred not to far from my father’s home. The wounded were brought into our castle. He passed there a few hours after he came, and we preserved him so he could be returned to his father and sister, just as he wished.” Mark dropped his head letting his hair cover his face.
“ Was in pain or afraid?”
“ No he was very calm saying his mother was washing away any pain or anxiety. He only wished for me to sit with him saying how he reminded me of his sister. Michael was happy to tell me of his home and family wishing that he could be the great man his father is.”
“ You say you stayed with him till he passed?”
“ I never left his side, even as he was prepared for the journey home.”
“ How was that done? The body begins to rot after a few days.”
“ The sorceress Kendra cast a spell on him at the moment of death, preserving him for all time.”
“ I wish I could give her my thanks.”
“ You may get your chance. Eric took her in the siege of my home so he could us her power to defeat Vincent. When Eric falls she will be set free and will most likely return to my father’s lands.” Calista looked at him head slightly bowed, long hair blowing in the breeze. She walked over to him taking his large hand in hers. His said green eyes met her deep brown ones. “ Come it’s almost time for the mid day meal. Let us talk of happier times, perhaps you can tell me about your brothers sexual exploits.” Lord Mark’s eyes lightened and he began to speak as they walked hand in hand back to the castle. When they returned the food was laid out and Katie and Baptista were waiting for them. Calista noticed a glint of gold in Katie’s raven hair. The two ladies sat together while Mark and Baptista walked over to the fireplace to discuss something. Calista leaned over to Katie while moving her hand for Katie’s head.
“ If you’re going to have a roll in the hay then it might be wise to get it all out afterwards otherwise people will know exactly what you’ve been up too.” Calista plucked it from her head letting it fall to the floor.
Morgan sat in the tower watching David ride around the city to meet Sir Paul, Sir Gregory, and her Uncle. Tears were streaming down her facing and her heart ached for the first time since her brother’s death. She dropped to her knees while still holding onto the ancient bars in the window. She was sure that this wouldn’t have happened if she had stayed at her uncle’s castle. But then her father would still be a prisoner here. She rested her head against the cold stone wanting nothing more than to die. Someone clearing their throat caused her to turn. Two women stood there slightly baffled.
“ My Lady, we’re here to escort you to your bath.”
“ Do you want us to fetch someone to carry you?”
“ No, just give me a moment.” The two women bowed stepping outside of the door. Morgan pulled herself up wiping away the stray tears. She tried to regain some composure as she opened the door letting the two women lead her to one of the more modern rooms in the castle. The two women left her once she was in the warm water. God how she had missed this, Morgan was one of the few people in the land that bathed regularly. Once she was finished Morgan wrapped her body in the velvet robe the two attendants had left for her. Two hands coming to rest on her shoulders made her jump frightened beyond all belief.
“ Shane, how long have you been there?”
“ Only for a moment. Not to fear I didn’t see a thing.” He picked up her hand lightly kissing it. He could see the sadness in her eyes and it frustrated him. “ Why are you sad? You have everything you could ever wish for.”
“ I do not have the freedom to enjoy it, and forgive me for speaking out of turn sir but there are some things that even you can not give me.”
“ And what are those?”
“ My departed kin. My brother died defending your father’s lands against Eric yet he does nothing to honor his memory.”
“ Many have died because of Eric. Do you think it would be a fitting memorial to have Eric’s blood spilled?”
“ No, death is to good for him.”
“ Is it?”
“ He should be locked away and humiliated. Make him feel the pain of all the family’s that he has taken son’s, father’s, and husbands from.” Shane looked at her slightly curious. Perhaps Lord Mark had not lied when he stated that Lady Morgan was born to rule. “ My lord it is quite cold will I be given proper attire?”
“ Of course.” He clapped his hands summoning the two attendants. They rushed in bowing in a mix of fear and respect. “ Go fetch some garments for Lady Morgan to wear.” The rushed out to get what he had requested and Shane simply smiled. “ They will be your personal attendants. Ask them for whatever you require.” He stepped forward standing right in front of her. Shane placed his hand on her soft cheek. “ My father is throwing a banquet to celebrate Eric’s capture. I’d like you to attend. The guards will come for you at sundown, please be ready.”
Many hours later Morgan sat staring out of her window watching the last embers of the sun disappear. She was dressed in a crimson gown making her amber hair glow. A slight knock on the door pulled her attention away from the dying day.
“ Come in.”
“ A gruff looking guard stepped in shifting nervously.” Morgan stood up walking out of the door he now held open. Shane was waiting at the base of the tower dressed in his finery. He took her arm and they began to walk down the hall towards the noisy hall.
“ Did your father invite the whole kingdom?”
“ Just the nobility they all are present with the exception of your father.” Morgan’s hope fell flat again. The hall grew quiet as Morgan and Shane enter. A hushed whisper flew across the room people commenting on different things. Lord Ric stood in the shadows slightly away from everyone else. He stared at Morgan ready her body language.
“ God she’s so miserable here.” David had found him after the battle informing his father of what had happened between Ric’s son and the prince. He sent one of his servants to see if he could get a private meeting with Morgan. The brightly lit hall was full of joy and merriment as all celebrated the defeat of Eric and the efforts of the Rebels. Only one of them had come and he stood far from anyone. Kane hid behind his mask not wishing to reveal that he was alive. He saw everyone around Morgan laughing and celebrating yet she stayed unmoving. Kane pushed away from the wall walking to Lord Ric who had been denied contact with Morgan.
“ Let me try.”
“ Will she know it’s you?”
“ She’ll figure it out.” Kane walked to Shane’s messenger putting in his request stating that as his desired reward he wished to speak with Morgan privately. Shane sent him back stating that his request would be granted. Kane smirked raising a glass to the prince in thanks. True to Shane’s word Kane was escorted into a sitting room. While he waited for Morgan he checked the room for any nooks or secret places for someone to listen. When he was satisfied that they would be alone he sat down in one of the chairs waiting. Fifteen minutes later Morgan walked in eyes firmly lowered to the floor. He stood up as a sign of respect unfortunately she didn’t notice. Her eyes never left the floor.
“ My lady would you like us to remain outside?”
“ No please wait at the end of the hall. I’ll call for you when we’re through.” Her voice was weak, barely audible. She was acting as if her very soul had been broken. The guards nodded closing the door leaving them alone. Morgan walked to the large sofa perching herself on the edge. Kane listened to the fading footsteps waiting for them to disappear.
“ Brave sir you are truly foolish to waste your reward on me. I have nothing to offer you.” He walked around to her carefully resting on one knee in front of her. He raised he chin with a finger drawing her eyes from the floor.
“ The angel of the armies of the brothers of Callaway should not be sad.”
“ I’m afraid then that you’re mistaken. My heart has filled with a pain that eats me alive.”
“ Your heart should be rejoicing. Especially since your husband and uncle’s second in command ride to you’re father and his army while your husbands father remains here seeking an audience with you.” Morgan raised her eyes to his questioning how he knew that she was married.
“ How did you…” Kane pulled the mask away to reveal his scarred smiling face.
“ You think we will let you face this battle alone?” Morgan threw her arms around her uncle’s neck practically choking him.
“ Shane kept his word after all he let David leave unharmed.” She let go of him taking his large hands in her small ones.
“ Believe me there is nothing worth more than the person in front of me. There are some things that can’t be priced. My niece’s future happiness is one of them.”
“ You could’ve asked to take me to see my father.”
“ Shane would never let me do that. But once David and Gregory get to your father all will be well.”
“ I fear even he can not stop this. Losing David hurts as much as losing Michael.”
“ He said that you were still dressed in the dress we sent you in. Did Eric not let you out of the tower to at least change?”
“ No, he locked me away not letting me speak to a soul.”
“ Where are you now?”
“ Still in the cold drafty tower. But only the base is locked. The attendants live in the bottom and they carry keys. Shane said it was for my safety.”
“ The last of Eric’s forces have been defeated.”
“ What became of Father Nash?”
“ He has been locked away in the Kings library trying to find a way to dissolve your and David’s marriage. He’s not having much success.”
“ How did you learn all this?”
“ Apparently the fire did not destroy my ability to charm the female courtiers and servant girls. Thanks to them I now know everything that happens in this palace.” Morgan at his face before smiling.
“ One day your love of women will get you in serious trouble.”
“ Until that day comes I will continue to live my life like I choose despite the church.” Suddenly she got this huge smile on her face.
“ I have an idea.” She got up and rushed over to the door. Morgan signaled to Kane to put the mask back on. He complied while watching her open the door and call to the guards at the end of the hall. They rushed down making loud clanking noises. Both men were taken aback by Morgan’s gleeful expression.
“ Will you bring the prince please?” They bowed walking back towards the banquet hall. She shut the door turning back to her confused Uncle.
“ What are you up too?”
“ You’ll see.” She gave him a wink. A knock on the door made them turn. “ Come in” Shane stepped in slightly worried but was also taken aback by her joyful expression.
“ Is something the matter?” She took his hands acting excited.
“ No a miracle has occurred. Sir Giadmus here served with my family. He knew my Uncle and Brother well. Eric’s men have held him prisoner for many years. He escaped so he could help the rebels.”
“ That’s wonderful to hear. True loyalty is always rewarded.”
“ My lord I ask that he stay with me. That way your father’s guards may protect him and you. Let them concentrate on the kingdom.”
“ You are a part of this kingdom.”
“ I am one person. Please let him do this. He brings me a happiness I have not felt in years.” Shane looked into her eyes seeing a brilliant light shining in them. He sighed in defeat knowing he could not win this fight.
“ Good Sir Knight would you accept this simple task?”
“ If I am meant to serve here then I shall stay.”
“ I suppose this means you’ll have to move from the tower. Both of you cannot stay there. I’ll have the old royal chambers fixed up for you. It has a private garden that you can explore.”
“ I appreciate your generosity my lord.” Shane let go one of her hands so he could rest his hand on her glowing cheek.
“ If this is the price I must pay for your happiness then I gladly pay it. I only ask that you remain here till the rooms are ready.”
“ Of course my lord.”
“ I expect you to take care of her.”
“ I will guard her as if she were my own kin.” Morgan tried not to laugh. Thankfully Shane didn’t notice. He simply nodded and left them be so he could return to the banquet.” When they were finally alone again Kane peeled off his mask giving her a confused look on his face.
“ Sir Giadmus? You give me a false identity and then ask me to stay. What are we up too?”
“ All part of my plan.”
“ Well would you mind explaining it to me?”
Calista sat in her
chambers brushing her long golden hair thinking of the talk she had had with
Lord Mark and Kendra’s prediction before the attack.
Michaels father
is the one you seek, your true-life companion. He is now a cold man but it will
take him losing all that he hold’s dear to open his heart to you again. When
he does tell him of his son.
How will I know
when he opens his heart to me, how will I find him?
You will know.
Eric shall bring you two together.
Calista wondered
just how cold Lord Mark cold be. Over the past week she had gotten to know him
finding him to be quite charming as opposed to the overbearing ogre that had
been described to her by Sir Paul. It was apparent that his children meant the
world to him and his heart was still wounded from his son’s death. Because of
this Morgan had to suffer. She could see it in his eyes that he wanted to fix
things with his daughter. To show her the same love that had been bestowed upon
her brother. A clamoring of hooves drew her out of her thoughts. A weary David,
Gregory and Paul all walked towards the entrance of the castle. She noticed that
Kane, Morgan, or Kendra were not with them.
“ They’ve been
killed.” She rushed out of her room, golden hair flying behind her. She
stopped at the base of the stairs seeing Baptista, Katie, and Sir Paul all
talking.
“ My lord I wish
to take this woman into my care as my wife.”
“ You love this
man?”
“ Yes my lord.”
“ Then you may
have her as your wife. I wish you both a happy life together.”
“ Thank you my
lord.” Paul turned to see Calista.
“ There you
are.” He walked over to her giving her a sad smile.
“ Have they
died?”
“ No my beautiful.
Shane has kept Morgan for himself, Kane stayed behind to make sure Morgan stays
safe and we could not find Kendra.”
“ Then why are you
sad?”
“ Because I came
with three of the most beautiful women in the kingdom and now I leave with none
of them. Katie is to stay with Captain Baptista, and Lord Mark has asked that
you stay here with him. You have captured his heart just as you have caught
mine.”
“ You flatter me
to much.” He watched a blush creep into her cheeks.
“ Not as much as I
should. Besides I must go retrieve my wife so we may return to the palace. I
also wish you to find happiness out of the tragedy that has filled you life.”
Sir Paul leaned down kissing her cheek before walking to the door. He stepped
outside, mounting his horse, and riding away.
Gregory and David
stood in the study with Lord Mark talking.
“ Kane has
remained to watch over her?”
“ Yes but he has
masked himself so everyone will still think he’s dead.”
“ The king
promised him any reward he wished. He told us that he would ask to speak to
Morgan.”
“ Before I was
thrown out Morgan demanded that your banishment be lifted which Shane did.”
“ Was she well
taken care of?”
“ Eric never let
her out of the tower. She was still dressed in the clothes we sent her in. I’m
assuming Shane will show her a little more hospitality.”
“ Get my horse. I
ride for the city at once.” David and Gregory walked out so he could prepare
for the trip. Calista waited for them to leave before entering the room. Mark
looked up at her a little surprised to see her.
“ Let come with
you my lord. I can help you in ways a man can not.”
“ My lady I
thought you would have liked to have caught up with Sir Paul.”
“ He has left to find Stephanie. As a matter of fact he told me that you asked him to leave me here."
“ I thought it
would be a trip you would not enjoy. Just as you will not enjoy this trip to the
capital.”
“ My sister is a
lady in waiting to the Queen. I can get to your daughter faster than anyone
including you. Shane may be reluctant to let you see her. Let me help.” He let
out a sigh before agreeing. They set out for the city passing Lord Marks home as
they went. Calista looked at the burnt out shell sadden that Eric had taken so
much. Titan nickered in recognition and began to pull towards the castle. Mark
pulled him back refusing to let him take off. Despite the fact that he was with
his master the noble horse seemed almost lost as if he were expecting to find
what he was looking for there.
Bishop Johnson sat
in his chambers attempting to pray but he could find no peace in the noise of
the palace. He stood to gaze out his window to see the most beautiful woman he
thought he had ever seen in his life. His body instantly responded longing to
feel her around him. Damned vow of chastity, but if the pope could break his
then so could a bishop. He decided to see her up close.
Kendra stood gazing
into the pond watching the small fish swim around unaware of the human world
around them. She heard someone approach her and turned to greet them
face-to-face. She saw the Bishop standing behind her amazed by her dark skin and
bared stomach. His arousal obvious through his robes.
“ My lady, are you
not cold?”
“ No more than you
are aroused. You risk your god’s wraith to break a vow?”
“ My god knows
that mortal men are weak and if he had seen a glimpse of your beauty then I’m
sure he would do the same. Tel me who are you?”
“ I am the
Sorceress Kendra of Bansher. I remember when the solders carrying the banners of
your god first came to these lands.”
“ That was
hundreds of years ago.”
“ I am eternal.”
She walked to him lightly stroking his face. “ But if you were willing to give
up your god for me then I would give up the ages for you.”
“ My chambers are
right below us.”
“ Lets go to mine,
they are more private.” He followed behind her deep into the palace looking at
the ancient stones that surrounded them. When they reached her door she pulled
out a key unlocking the door ushering him in before closing the door behind
herself and locking it. Torches reflected off the walls flickering strange
shadows on the wall. Pillows and rich oriental rugs covered the floor. A large
bed dominated the wall decorated with satins, silks, and velvets. Beautiful
tapestries hung around the room depicting different magical events. A table
stood near the bed holding a crystal ball with dark clouds trapped in it. His
eyes came to rest on her as she sat on the bed beaconing him closer. He pulled
the cord holding his robes closed off letting them swing open to free his
erection. Her eyebrows rose at his size and length. This was going to a
pleasurable experience for both. His body was muscular and toned, a vast
difference to the pot bellied pigs that often solicited her at court.
“ It seems such a
waste to be so physically blessed and never use it.”
“ My most
beautiful lady I am anything but inexperience, it’s just be a while.”
“ Well let’s
relieve you of your…affliction.” He sauntered up to her while she stood up
removing the delicate clothes from her body. They feel silently to the floor as
she sat back down running her hands along his thighs and hips before moving onto
his penis drawing out a moan. He took her hands off of him pushing her back
opening her legs with his knee and entering her quickly.
“ Forgive me my
lady but if I could not feel you around me immediately I’m afraid I would’ve
burst. If you allow me to return to your bed I shall be more open to
foreplay.” She wrapped her legs around him giving him a smile.
“ What is your
birth name?”
“ Dwayne.”
“ Unusual but I
like it. You feel as it you were built for me. It seems a shame that you have a
higher calling.”
“ Higher calling
be damned. One’s soulmate comes along once in a lifetime.” He began to run
his hands along her breasts massaging them loving how soft they felt. Then bent
over to kiss her full lips, chin, neck, and breastbone. Her hands moved to his
head stroking his hair. He slowly began to move his hips encouraging her to
relax her legs so he could pull all the way out. His head came back up to her
hips sealing over them letting their tongues dance as he increased his pace.
Their shadows cast on the walls, moans, and cries rose to the heavens. Soon both
reached the point of orgasm and their mutual cry echoed down the hall. Dwayne
collapsed on her catching his breath. He felt reborn free of all his
limitations.
Kendra ran her hands over his back watching
him closely.
“ How do you feel?”
“ Reborn, perhaps I was right in my choice. There are two many restrictions in society.” A bell rang cause him to give a slight curse. “ What could the king want now?”
“ I’m not sure but allow me to accompany you.”
“ Gladly.”
Both of them walked into the throne room watching Father Nash put the finishing touches on a document. “ I know what this is about.”
“ Really?”
“ The King is having a marriage dissolved.”
“ Who’s?”
“ Sir David and Lady Morgan.” Kendra looked at him for a moment before speaking.
“ You must stop it.”
“ I can not fight against the will of a king.”
“ You must find a way. Those two are meant for the other just as you and I are meant to be.”
“ If it only it were that easy.” King Vince saw them smirking.
“ Bishop Johnson, Mistress Kendra so good to see you both.”
“ Your majesty if we may speak about the papers?”
“ Certainly.”
“ My concern is for both parties souls. Lady Morgan has been denied spiritual guidance for sometime now. I believe if it would be in the best interest of everyone if your son and the Lady were spoken too by myself, Father Nash, and Mistress Kendra.”
“ Surely an absolution of a marriage can not lead to eternal damnation.”
“ True but what those involved do afterwards may.” Vince looked at them for a moment before consenting. The three of them found Shane standing on his balcony watching Lady Morgan and Sir Giadmus stroll through the garden.
“ My Lord.” Shane turned to see the three of them standing behind him.
“ Yes”
“ May we have a word with you about the annulment?”
“ Namely?” Kendra walked over to him extremely pissed off but kept all her emotions in check.
“ The Lady loves him with all of her heart. You could destroy her if you do this.” Bishop Johnson walked behind Kendra.
“ If that happens she may try to take her own life.” Father Nash spoke from across the room.
“ Perhaps it would be best if you let her go free. There are many eligible women in the Kingdom.”
“ I do not want them I want her.”
“ Why is she so desirable to you?”
“ Because if I were to marry her then my family could very easily control her father.”
“ Your father fears Lord Mark?”
“ He is one of the most educated men in the Kingdom. His daughter is no exception to that she has been schooled by the finest tutors. To control them would make my family one of the most powerful in the world.”
“ You would destroy a family for power?”
“ Why else would I marry? Mary was for the same reason and look what that gave us, Eric’s empire.” Kendra was positively disgusted by his answers. Dwayne and Father Nash stood shaking their heads. The three of them headed to Lady Morgan’s chambers to sit and wait for her to return. Not long after they had arrived Lady Morgan returned giving them all a strange look.
“ Why do you all look so sad?”
“ The papers are completed my Lady. They only have to be signed by the Bishop.” She turned to Dwayne looking at him as if he had betrayed her.
“ You haven’t signed them yet have you?”
“ No my Lady, I’m trying to stall for you. From what I’ve been told your father is on his way and should arrive at any moment.”
“ He can’t stop King Vince.” Father Nash interrupted.
“ He wishes to help you through this. I’m afraid your marriage to David will be ended. There is no way we can stop it.”
“ David will fight for me he won’t let Shane win.” Sir Giadmus put a hand on her shoulder.
“ Even if David were to defeat Shane then he runs the risk of being killed by King Vince for treason.”
“ So Bishop Johnson shall sign the document and that leaves me with what?”
“ Shane will then try to marry you, unless your father can prove that the agreement between himself and the King was false. Which he may be able to do seeing as your father had one with Lord Ric.”
“ I don’t think I can hear anymore. Would you please tell them that want to see my father the instant he arrives.”
“ Of course.” Kendra could once again feel the pain in Morgan’s heart grow and stayed behind not wishing to visit the King again.
“ Perhaps there is a way for this marriage to survive.”
“ What?”
“ Say David challenges Shane to fight for your hand. If David defeated Shane in honorable combat then there’s not much the King can do.”
“ True, but what if David lost?”
“ He will not lose you two are fated to be together just as myself and Bishop Johnson are. Just don’t let them think they’ve won, be strong for him.” Morgan nodded and both women turned when a horn sounded signaling someone had arrived. Sir Giadmus spoke.
“ He’s here.” Kendra left to return to the throne room. She did not wish to see the King but she did wish to see the fireworks that were about to take place.
Lord Mark stormed into the palace with David, Calista, and Gregory behind him. King Vince smiled when he saw Mark alive and well, but it fell when he saw David with him.
“ Lord Mark what brings you here?”
“ My daughters well being, word has come to me that even after Eric fell she is still here held against her will. I ask his majesty why she is not released?”
“ I wish to honor the marriage contract between us Lord Mark. My son’s wife was killed in the fray and I wish him married as soon as possible.”
“ My daughter has already wed.”
“ You see this document?” King Vince motioned down to the paper in front of him.
“ Of course.”
“ It is an absolution of marriage, once the Bishop signs it Sir David and Lady Morgan shall no longer be wed.” David rushed forward.
“ You can’t do that!” Lord Mark’s arm came out stopping the young knight from rushing the King. Shane came in sneering at David.
“ Hello David nice to see you delivered the message for me.”
“ Where is she?”
“ Safe, she is with her ever present guardian Sir Giadmus.” Mark recognized that name and remembered it had been Michaels name when he and Morgan were children. Michael would pretend he was a great warrior and Morgan would be his ever-present sidekick. Mark continued to listen to them exchange words till David said the one thing Mark wish he hadn’t.
“ I challenge you to a duel for the Ladies hand.” Lord Mark closed his eyes for a moment hearing Shane accept. When the two had finished their squabble Lord Mark continued to speak.
“ Might it be possible for me to see Morgan now?”
“ Certainly, but just you and the Lady.” Calista stepped forward.
“ Your highness might it be possible for me to visit my sister? She is Lady Aurora a lady in waiting to your most noble queen. I have been worried for her since the siege.”
“ My wife is not feeling well so your sister may be tending to her but are welcome to see if you can help.”
“ Thank you majesty.” David and Gregory were walked out while Mark and Calista split up to their separate destinations. Father Nash, Bishop Johnson, and Mistress Kendra stood there shaking their heads.
“ This is not going to be a pretty end. I fear more blood will be spilled before this is over.”
Morgan lay in her bed slipping into a deep slumber while Kane sat in the sitting area reading. He had long since removed his mask finding it easier to see without it. A rumbling on the door got his attention and he went to it grabbing his mask and slipping it over his face. He opened the door to see his brother standing behind it. Mark rushed in quickly closing the door. Kane ripped the mask back off embracing his brother.
“ Where is she?”
“ Resting.”
“ I must speak with her. David has challenged Shane to a duel for her hand.”
“ Kendra said that might happen. If Shane wins I fear she may do something rash.”
“ Namely?”
“ Take her own life. This has taken its toll on her and her reserves of strength are fading. Shane lets her do very little. The only time she is allowed to leave these rooms is after the afternoon meal so she may get some exercise. Her attendants are more spy’s for Shane ensuring that he knows what she is doing at all times.”
“ She will not have to endure this for very much longer.”
“ Why?”
“ Because I have a plan.”
“ You have a plan, she has a plan. The only person in this family that doesn’t have one is me.” Lord Mark began to explain his plan to his brother having him work out any kinks that should arise. They then journeyed into the bedchamber to see Morgan. She was lying on top of the covers sound asleep.
“ She looks so tired is she not sleeping?”
“ Not very well she keeps having dreams of Michael.”
“ Michael?”
“ He comes to her in her sleep and speaks to her about things to come. She has seen things before Mistress Kendra.” Morgan began to murmur in her sleep once again calling Michaels name. Her eye’s opened and she saw two very concerned men.
“ Father?”
“ Yes Morgan.” She rushed out of the bed wrapping her arms around his waist. Calista’s words came back to haunt him. “ Is that why you sent Morgan away? Because you could not return her love?”
“ Father is it over now may I return home now?”
“ Not yet child, but soon you will be able to leave.”
“ I don’t wish to marry Shane.”
“ I know but you must stay strong just a little while longer. David has challenged Shane to a duel for you.”
“ He can’t, even if he wins he could still be killed.”
“ King Vince is not that stupid. Lord Ric controls most of the farms in the kingdom. If David were to be killed by the King then Ric would cut the rest of the kingdom off.”
“ Is it true that you are allowed to leave these rooms but once a day?”
“ Yes and even then Shane watches us from the Balcony of his chambers. He does not trust my guardian.” She gave Kane a sly smile.
“ Its kind of fun being dead. Everyone is saying how they truly feel about me, and many husbands are now questioning if I paid their wives a visit.”
“ Did you?”
“ I feel like telling them not if but how many times did I go back.” Morgan shook her head laughing and Mark just smirked. “ Shall we tell her your plan brother?”
“ Yes I suppose we should.” They began to give Morgan the details making sure she understood everything.
Calista quietly opened the door to her sister’s chamber smiling when she saw her. She cleared her throat getting her attention.
“ Calista?” Aurora rushed over to her hugging tightly. “ You escaped after all.”
“ I took refuge with Sir Paul till he brought me to Lord Mark. I was so worried that you did not survive the siege. People that escaped from the city had no word about the royal family or anyone in the palace.” The two sisters let go and moved to a bench to talk.
“ Eric imprisoned the royal family but let everyone else continue their duties as normal.”
“ Is it true about his daughter? Did he really kill her?”
“ Yes it was a good thing the rebel forces arrived when they did otherwise Lady Morgan would’ve been next.”
“ What do you mean?”
“ Eric had her locked in the tower and was making plans to have her killed unless she agreed to marry him.” Calista looked shocked.
“ Even after he promised her father she would not be injured.”
“ He was planning to state that one of the rebels got into the tower raping her and murdering her. That’s where he was taking her. Once he got her father’s lands he was going to kill her. I doubt she would have lived past her wedding night.”
“ What horrible man.”
“ I’m afraid that Shane is not much better.”
“ Hopefully the marriage won’t happen. Her father is determined to stop it.”
“ He can not stop the will of a King.”
“ David has challenged Shane.”
“ Let us hope that David can defeat him.”
“ If he does I’m sure Shane will find someone else. He say’s he’s doing this for power, I think he’s trying to cover the shame of marrying Mary. He’s a scoundrel anyways. Exactly like his father will chase after every woman he comes in contact with.”
“ You speak from experience?”
“ He told me when he was free he would be rid of Mary and make me his queen.”
“ I’d hold him to that.” Calista’s eyes lit up. “ That could work!”
“ What?”
“ You are extremely favored by the queen are you not?”
“ Yes.”
“ Then she would have been there when he said it correct?”
“ Of course.”
“ Ask her if she will hold him to his word. If the Bishop can stall signing the papers long enough for you two to wed then this whole thing can be resolved.”
“ I don’t want to marry Shane.”
“ You’ll be queen. Do you think Vince and Linda love one another?”
“ I know they don’t care for the other.” Aurora smiled at her sister getting the idea.
“ Besides you can always take a lover.”
“ So true.”
“ Have you seen Kendra?”
“ Yes she’s here, and getting very cozy with the Bishop I might add. She’s been trying to help Morgan but no one can really get to her.”
“ What do you mean?”
“ Shane has her tucked away in the old royal apartments. The only people allowed to see her are her two attendants, The Royal Family, and her kin.”
“ Who is Sir Giadmus?”
“ Her guardian, he was one of the rebels and apparently he served with her family. No one knows who he is just that he wears a mask. Bizarre if you ask me.” Calista thought back to when Kane had left and realized that he had worn a mask to cover his scarred face so no one would know he was alive. “ But he may challenge Shane’s ability to charm the dresses off the servant girls and women of the court. In one day he had three of them share his bed.”
“ In a row?”
“ At the same time, makes me remember Lord Kane and how he used to charm women right out of their husbands beds and into his.” Calista laughed at her face.
“ Lord Mark told me of his brothers exploits. The man should be locked up for some of the things he’s done.”
“ Like what?”
“ Deflowered a bride on the wedding night before the groom could.”
“ As I recall that nearly started a war.”
“ Lord Mark told me they fled for their lives that night.”
“ Is he really as horrible as everyone says?”
“ Lord Mark? No! He is actually very kind. Just soft spoken, and prefers the quiet of the country.”
“ Sounds like you have developed quite a fondness for him.”
“ Yes I have. Do you think we can go find Kendra so I may talk to her?”
“ I think it would be best if we waited for her to find us. Lord only knows what she’s doing with the Bishop now.” The two women laughed before wondering exactly what they were up too.
Giggling woke Morgan from her sleep cause her to walk to Kane’s room. She pressed her ear to the door listening.
“ Shhh you’ll wake the lady!”
“ It’s hard when you bring me such pleasure.”
“ Perhaps I best wait until she is gone so I may give you all that I have.”
“ When will she be gone?”
“ I’ll come find you.” The woman giggled again.
“ Remove your mask so I may see your face.”
“ I’m afraid not you see I am to spy for the King and if people know what I look like then it will be hard for me to get any information.” She made a little disappointed sound before laughing. Morgan heard movement and rushed back to bed. The door opened and one of the kitchen maids stepped out followed by Kane. The girl stopped and looked at Morgan for a second.
“ It can not be easy for her. I’ve heard this her first time in the palace.” Kane thought for a second.
“ Her father brought her here once before and that was to meet Shane. She’s strong though has a lot of her mother in her.”
“ Shane is a pig if you ask me, and she isn’t missing much when it comes to the bedroom.”
“ Really?”
“ Compared to you there is nothing there.” Kane saw Morgan smile and try not to laugh.
“ Come on we’ll wake her up.” He ushered her out and went back to find Morgan sitting upright in bed laughing.
“ How many woman does that make today?”
“ None of your business.” She laughed at him.
“ Spying for the king huh?”
“ Yes what a better way to keep my true identity secret. Besides I may break my own record on this trip.”
“ This whole place is a village of sin. Was the absolution signed?”
“ No Lord Ric has been summoned, apparently it needs both father’s signatures.”
“ How long will that give us?”
“ A few days.”
“ I don’t know how much more of this I can take. I thought having father here would help but it hasn’t. All I can keep thinking is that this is a deal gone sour.” Kane walked over to her and sat next to her in bed.
“ Your father would not have come if he did not love you. Believe me when he returned after Eric banished him he was a wreck. Couldn’t do much of anything because of his worry for you. He just has a hard time expressing that love for you. Come on try to go back to sleep it won’t help anyone if you can’t even stay awake.”
“ I wish I could talk to David even for a moment.”
“ I know soon this will be over.”
Lord Mark stood in his chambers preparing for another restless sleep. Many thoughts troubled his mind most of them about his children. How many times had Morgan called to him growing up and he had not answered her. The pain for his wife still haunted him in more ways then he realized. He could looked at Morgan and see her mother staring back. Especially now that she was grown. Mark lay down on his bed falling into a dream. There he stood years before watching his two children play except they weren’t little anymore they were full-grown. Then slowly Morgan began to fade away leaving only Michael. Except now he was pale a shadow of what he had been. He could see the outline of his daughter crying at her brother’s grave; how Michael followed her trying his best to give her the comfort she so desperately sought. His brother appeared in the dream now taking Morgan and leading her away with Michael behind her. As they walked away from him he began to call to them but they simply kept going. Then with a start he awoke. Mark looked out onto the night wondering the meaning of his dream. His body was covered with sweat and he knew that he would find no more sleep that night.
Calista slowly walked down the hall seeing a candle lit in Lord Mark’s bedchamber. She pushed on the door seeing him standing at the window his back to her in nothing but a simple pair of pants. The sight of his broad back made her shiver. Scars lightly traced his shoulders from where his armor would have had small openings. Slowly Calista walked in shutting the door behind her. She crossed the room lightly wrapping her arms around him feeling his warm skin. He took a sharp breath when she touched him but that was all he did. Her hands roam over his stomach while she lightly kissed his back. He remained still causing her to stop and let go.
“ My lord do you not wish me to touch you?” He turned to her surprised to see her standing in her chemise looking at him. Her breath was caught in her throat at the sight of his muscled chest.
“ My mind was elsewhere surely you can forgive me?” He extended his hand to her and she took it. For the first time Calista saw a pain in his eyes that she had not seen since she had told him of his son.
“ What pains you to the point of distraction?”
“ Ghosts of my past, and wonderings of the future. I fear that my daughter will forever remain distant from me.”
“ You can still show her…”
“ No I cannot. She only knows me as what I am. I doubt she remembers how I was with her mother. My heart has been ice for to many years now. My brother has taken my place as her father I am simply the man that sired her. Kane raised her as his own child. I was a fool to think that returned any of the emotion she shows me.” Calista let go of him backing away she quietly shook her head before walking out of the room and going to Morgan’s. She beat on the door finally getting Kane to answer.
“ What is the matter? What has you so upset my lady?”
“ I must speak with your niece. I’ve just come from your brother.”
“ Is he not well?” Kane became instantly concerned for his brother’s health.
“ His heart aches for the past mistakes he made with his daughter. He wished for them to be one again, but fears his cold nature may have forever pushed her away. He said he could never return the emotion she gives him.”
“ My brother is not an emotional man, never has been but he can return her love in different ways.”
“ What?”
“ Him being here proves to her that he cares for her. She knows he wouldn’t be fighting so hard if he did not love her.”
“ Can she tell him that?”
“ I think her continuing to show him affection does. Now let me fetch my mask and I will walk you back to your quarters.”
The next day David sat in the ancient garden beneath Morgan’s window waiting for any sign of her. He saw glimpses of her attendants but never her. Finally one of them came down to question his motives.
“ Good Sir why do you sit beneath the lady’s window, she will not come to you.”
“ Because I took a vow to stand beside her in all trial’s large and small. Even if I cannot see her that does not mean that I cannot stay close by to ensure her protection.”
“ Sir Giadmus guards her well there is no need for you to keep watch.” He looked up from the book that he had been reading looking at the attendants face.
“ Tell me do you share the grooms bed with him before his bride? Is that your reward for keeping her hidden away? You and your friend?”
“ A lady does not answer such accusations.”
“ No a lady would blush at such accusations. I see you do not which means they must be true. Go back up and tell Sir Giadmus I wish to speak with him.” The woman balked for a moment before getting a stern look from him. She went back inside furious that he had insulted her honor. An hour later Sir Giadmus came out and saw David sitting in a far off corner. The larger man walked over to the young knight slightly curious.
“ You upsetting the servant girls is upsetting my chances of getting them into bed.”
“ She asked for it. You must arrange for a meeting between Morgan and I.”
“ You know I can’t. Shane watches us like a hawk. I think he suspects that she and I are sharing the same bed.”
“ I must see her, speak with her, hold her.”
“ Believe me she wished to do the same with you.”
“ If we both wish to see the other then why can’t it come true?” Kane looked on seeing Shane’s balcony in the distance.
“ When Morgan comes out for her afternoon walk I’ll leave the door cracked for you. When she passes the balcony slip inside and wait in my room. The maids are with Shane in the afternoon.”
“ When will I know it’s safe?”
“ I’ll come for you. Now return to the shadows before the prince comes.” Kane slipped inside to find the chamber maids waiting for him.”
“ Well?”
“ I dispatched him, he will not bother you again.”
“ What did he wish to speak with you about?”
“ He did not get the chance to tell me.” A knock on the door signaled to him that the midday meal was prepared. Kane opened the door to see Calista behind it.
“ My lady what a pleasant surprise.”
“ Thank you good Sir Knight. Lord Mark has sent me to ask his daughter to a private meal in his quarters.” Kane signaled to the maids to go fetch lady Morgan. When he was sure they were gone he leaned down to her and whispered something to her.
“ David will be waiting for Morgan when she returns be sure to tell Lord Mark and Morgan. Tell him we are ready to start our plan.” Morgan came out smiling.
“ My father wishes to dine with me?”
“ Yes allow me to escort you.”
Lord Mark sat at the table fiddling with the goblet in front of him. Morgan came in looking happier than he had ever seen her.
“ You wished to dine with me my lord father?”
“ Yes I have not had much time with you since I came here.” A page held out a chair for her before serving the meal.
“ You have been busy with more important affairs.”
“ Leave us…”
“ But my lord…”
“ We can serve ourselves.” The page nodded before walking out.
“ Will anyone be joining us?”
“ No.”
“ Oh” She seemed baffled that it was just them.
“ I wish to make amends with you.”
“ Amends?”
“ For my behavior towards you.” Morgan looked confused.
“ I don’t understand father. You have never once behaved badly towards me.”
“ I have shut you out of my life. Denying you the love you so openly give to me. Your brother came to me in my dreams last night”
“ But father you have shown me love. Your distance is because your heart is full of pain, just as mine is. My only worry is that your presence here has not calmed me. I am worried for David’s life.”
“ You have nothing to fear. We have all taken steps to ensure that this act shall not come to pass.”
“ What of Lord Ric? He shall arrive at anytime.”
“ He is on a ship heading away from us as we speak. He shall never arrive.” For the first time in many years Morgan saw her father smile. When they had finished their meal they journeyed to the ancient garden where they walked along the ruined path. Shane observed them fascinated. Once they had passed him he turned his back to the old part of the palace making it easy for Kane to sneak David in. Both father and daughter strolled until the evening torches had been lit and a guard was sent to bring Morgan to dinner. Lord Mark held out his arm stopping her for going.
“ Tell Shane that she will dine with me from now on. If he wishes to join us he may.”
“ I have strict orders to take her to the prince.”
“ I do not wish her to be alone with him any longer. If he wishes to see her then it will b with myself or her guardian present.”
“ Yes my lord.” He walked off unsure of what was to happen. Shane’s reaction to the news was less than happy. He thought to have Lord Mark arrested but then he would never get the annulment signed. Morgan watched Shane storm onto the balcony watching them.
“ Father Shane does not look pleased.”
“ I answer to no man when it comes to my kin.” They began to walk to her quarters paying Shane no mind at all. When they reached her door Mark stopped her.
“ Are you alright father?”
“ Your groom awaits you upstairs. Invite him to share your bed. Kane and I will ensure that you are not disturbed.”
“ But Shane…”
“ Leave him to me.” Once again he smiled. Morgan nodded rushing up the stairs to her bedchambers. David sat on her bed in a simple shirt and pants surrounded by lit candles and flower petals that had been sprinkled all over. He stood up taking her hands in his and kissing her.
“ My lady wife will you let me share your bed with you tonight?”
“ Yes my lord husband, and for all eternity if you wish it.” He walked around her kissing her neck and shoulders as he pull the silken cord that held her dress on her small frame. It fell off of her shoulders pooling around her and leaving her in her chemise. He kissed her neck again running his hands over her body. She turned to him removing his shirt and pants letting them fall to the floor. Her eye’s widened at him standing before her fully erect making her think twice about what she was about to do. David slipped the chemise from her body letting it fall to the floor. Morgan made no attempt to hide herself as he leaned down kissing her collarbone and breasts.
“ You are truly beautiful my lady.” He took her trembling hands and led her to the bed where he perched her one the edge and encouraged her to leaned back. “ Before I take your virtue allow me to give you the ultimate pleasure.”
“ Will I not feel it right away?” David laughed.
“ Generally it does not happen the first time due to the discomfort of the woman.”
“ Oh.”
“ Will you allow me to pleasure you?”
“ How will you achieve it without entering me?” He gestured for her to open her legs while he knelt down. They parted a little making him fully open them. He placed one on each shoulder fully exposing her to him. With his thumb his found her clit giving it a firm push and causing her to audibly gasp.
“ Ssshhh. You have nothing to fear I won’t hurt you.” His fingers caressed her for a moment before he brought his head down sealing his mouth over her clit while delving a finger and then gradually two fingers into her preparing her for what was to come. Soon he had three fingers with in her and brought her to her first orgasm. Her body shattered around his hand and he simply watched her. When she came down he sill had his fingers with in her. “ Are you ready?”
“ Yes my love.” He removed his fingers licking them before taking his now quivering member in one hand and slowly guiding himself into her. He was soon at her barrier and had her sit up so he could kiss her then with one thrust of his hips it was over and he swallowed her cry. For a moment she just lay there feeling him within her. He then slowly started to move again helping her work through the discomfort. Due to his highly aroused stated it didn’t take David long to reach his own orgasm and soon they both drifted into a peaceful slumber. Kane came in sometime later shaking both of them awake. They easily snuck David back to his room while Morgan changed the sheets from her bed so no one would see the pool of blood that was left on the sheets. Morgan slept well into the morning claiming exhaustion.
Kane walked in giving her a knowing smile.
“ Welcome to the land of the sinners my child.”
“ I didn’t want him to leave me. He was so gentle and loving.”
“ Well we must get our stories straight.”
“ What?”
“ David and yourself did this right after you were wed and have since lied. Both of you shall “confess” this to Mistress Kendra who will tell Bishop Johnson who shall inform the King and Shane.”
“ Won’t they get upset?”
“ There is not much they can do.”
“ They can have us arrested or killed.”
“ King Vince is not that foolish. Your father has one of the largest standing armies in the kingdom. If he so wished he could easily over throw Vince.”
“ How much longer must we wait?”
“ Not much longer. Shane has ordered the field prepared for his and David’s battle.” Lord Mark burst into the room.
“ Shane is on his way here. He wishes to know why you have not left your bed all day.” Shane came in behind Mark furious that she had not left her chambers when he had repeatedly summoned her.
“ Are you ill my lady?”
“ I have a malady of a female nature my prince.” Shane stood there looking at her as if she were insane. The attendants pulled her sheets showing him the bloodstains upon them. They also noted that it was close to the time for when her monthly flow would start.
“ Your attendants we’re not with you last night or today how was your bedding changed?”
“ Forgive me for speaking out of turn sire but I can change my own bedding.”
“ I see.”
“ Might I see Mistress Kendra about some…dreams I had last night. They were most peculiar.”
“ Certainly.” They all left her to dress and then Sir Giadmus and Shane walked her to Mistress Kendra’s chambers. Morgan walked in finding Bishop Johnson fast asleep in Kendra’s bed.
“ Shall we come in with you?”
“ No, I will be fine. You can leave if you wish.”
“ I will wait for you.”
“ Right.” She gave him a forced smile before walking into the room quickly closing the door. She looked around seeing Calista, Aurora, and Kendra sitting at a table waiting for Morgan.
“ How do you feel child?”
“ Sore, very sore but so alive also. He was so loving.”
“ The soreness shall pass and the love in your heart shall grow. Now you must listen closely to what I tell you.”
“ What great plans could I possibly be apart of?”
“ These, Sir Gregory has ridden to find Sir Paul.”
“ Why?”
“ In due time my child. This is what shall come to pass. You shall go to the prince and ask if you may journey to your brother’s grave with Sir Giadmus and your father.”
“ He will never let me go.”
“ I have seen to it as have Calista and Aurora. When you reach your father’s home Sir Giadmus will make it appear as if he has ride off with you.”
“ Will he?”
“ He will take you to a ship that will be carrying your uncle, his chief of arms, and his wife.”
“ What of my father.”
“ He will return claiming that he is off to rescue you and will take Ladies Aurora and Calista with him.”
“ You will met them all at the ship.”
“ What about David?”
“ He will not be far behind you. Now go to the prince and make your request.”
“ What of the bishop?”
“ We will not be far behind.” Morgan got up leaving the three women and finding her uncle waiting for her.
“ Where is Shane?”
“ He needs to speak with the Bishop.”
“ Shane will not find him.”
“ Oh?”
“ He is in Mistress Kendra’s bed.” Kane snickered before walking to the main hall. They walked in finding the King fuming over Lord Ric’s disappearance and Shane simply confused. He turned smiling when he saw Morgan walk in leaving his seething father.
“ Did you have a good meeting?”
“ Yes my prince. Lately my dreams have been filled with images of my brother. Might my guardian and father take me to visit his grave?”
“ I’m not to sure.”
“ Please my prince. I have remained with in these walls for so long. If I stay kept under lock and key any longer I shall go insane.”
“ There are still rouges out there. How do I know Sir David will not follow you?”
“ You have my word he won’t.”
“ Very well I bid you a safe journey and return.”
“ Thank you my prince.”
Lord Mark, Morgan, and Sir Giadmus mounted their horses ridding for home. Morgan felt energized. She rode away from the palace never to return. They reached Kane’s castle late in the evening. It would be the last time the castle would be in their possession. Lord’s Mark and Kane had decided to give the lands to Sir Paul as a reward for all his help and so there wouldn’t be obligations in King Vince’s lands.
The next day Lord Mark bid Kane and Morgan farewell as they rode on for the ships. Before they left Kane and Mark had gotten into a scuffle to make it appear as if Sir Giadmus had stolen her away. Lord Mark returned to the palace collecting Calista and her sister before going before the King.
“ He what?!”
“ He abducted her sire. He has stated that no royal guards be sent after them or he will kill her. I shall give chase myself.”
“ What of Lady Calista?”
“ I shall take her home with me for protection.”
“ Can I provide an escort then?”
“ No”
“ Very well may you have a swift return.” Lord Mark found the women waiting for him.
“ Does the queen know she’s leaving?”
“ Yes”
“ We must hurry.” They raced from the palace heading for the coast. A few days later Lord Mark rejoined his family saying farewell to his homeland for forever. Morgan appeared to be close to tears. Lord Mark placed his hand on her shoulder.
“ All will be well now.”
“ How will he find us?”
“ He is to send a messenger to us when he arrives.”
“ I do not like leaving him behind.”
“ It would have appeared to suspicious if he had come with us. Come you need your rest.” Lord Mark forced her to her cabin so she could seek rest for the long voyage ahead.
David sat in his tent wondering how he was to win this battle without Morgan there. Kendra had received word that all of them had landed safely. After the news the bishop and Kendra headed for a ship of their own ready to take them to the others. They left Father Nash behind to finish the carefully laid plans that had been started so long ago. A cloaked figure burst into the tent making David draw his sword ready to fight. Gregory removed his hood showing himself. The two embraced before Gregory motioned for another cloaked figure to enter. Sir Paul removed his cloak flashing David a smile.
“ The time to find your Lady has come.”
“ Father Nash is holding the horses. You must leave with us under the cover of darkness.”
“ What of the duel?”
“ Sir Paul will take your place.”
“ I can not leave.”
“ David we have all gone through great pains to ensure that this act does not happen.”
“ You must go. She is waiting for you with your child growing inside of her. Will you abandon them for a pointless fight? You have beaten the royalty at their own game.” Father Nash came in motioning that they must depart before the sun began to rise. David hesitantly left Sir Paul letting Gregory and Father Nash drag him away. They raced across the ever-lightening countryside hoping to reach their destination undetected. Sir Paul had finished suiting up ridding for the field of honor. Shane sat on the other end smirking. The flag fell and they charged the other. Sir Paul knocking Shane off of his horse, and Shane knocking away Sir Paul’s helmet, finally revealing the ruse that had been so carefully planned. Vince sent his most loyal guards after the young knight. They soon caught the three conspirators. David stopping letting Gregory and Father Nash ride into the dense vegetation when they saw David was not with them they turned to see him surrendering to the guards.
“ No!”
“ We must get to the ship, there is no way one knight and priest can possibly defeat the kings best men.”
“ We cannot leave him.”
“ We have no choice. Word shall reach Kendra and hopefully she will be able to help him.”
Kendra woke from her slumber startling Dwayne.
“ What is it my love?”
“ They have caught David.”
“ How?”
“ The King must’ve discovered our trick. They hold him in the palace, charged with treason.”
“ The end result being death. We must help him. We have all come to far to let this end now.”
“There is a way but it will require my complete concentration.” She closed her eyes seeking out her target, Eric the fallen enemy of King Vince, left to rot for all time. Through Eric’s eyes she saw David body broken softly calling to his lady. Slowly pushing thoughts into Eric’s mind she began the process of having Eric take David’s place on the chopping block. Dwayne got up walking down the hall to Lord Marks quarters. He and Calista were about to start something when he came in. For Lord Mark stood in only his pants and Lady Calista stood in her overdress, corset, and skirts.
“ Forgive me.”
“ Has she heard something?”
“ He has been captured, facing the executioners blade.”
“ No, Shane cannot be that cold!”
“ My lady he is.”
“ Spilling David’s blood shall not bring Morgan back to Shane’s side.”
“ Can Kendra save him?”
“ She is trying.”
“ Go tell my brother, let no one breathe a word of this to Morgan.”
“ Where is she?”
“ With my sister Aurora’s strength has done so much good. Especially now that she will have to give birth without her husband.”
“ What shall we tell her?”
“That he has been…detained.”
“ She will know that something is wrong when Sir Gregory and Father Nash arrive.”
“ I will deal with that when it comes.”
Dwayne ran out leaving Calista and Mark very frustrated. He slowly started to laugh.
“ You find something funny my lord?”
“Only that you have shared my bed since we arrived and I have yet to have the opportunity to take advantage of it.”
“ Perhaps it is a sign that we should wait.”
“ Unlike my brother I marry any virgin I deflower.”
“ Is that so?”
“ How else would I have gotten my first wife? The night my brother and fled for our lives was partially because Kane deflowered the bride, but also because I took her sister with me.” Calista got a shocked look on her face.
“ So I suppose David running off with Morgan amused you too?”
“ Not at first but as its settled in yes actually I do.”
“ So in your lifetime you’ve only deflowered one woman?”
“ No offense to present company but I like women with experience. However I do not mind being the teacher.” He gave her a coy little smile.
“ Exactly how many women have you charmed away from their husbands then?”
“ Enough to be able to teach Kane how not to get caught.” Calista turned from him gathering her overdress. “ But none were as kind, or beautiful as you.” She stopped turning to look at him.
“ Are you asking my forgiveness?”
“ I suppose.” She regarded him for a moment.
“ When you do penance I will forgive you.” She kissed him on his nose smiling.
“ Penance?”
“ Yes”
“ And what shall I do to earn my lady’s forgiveness?”
“ Give yourself to me, and no other.”
“ I might be a rouge my lady but I know better than to be in a bed other than the one of my wife‘s.” She gave him suspicious smile but decided his words were truthful.
“ Shall we resume my lady?”
“ Certainly.” He picked back up passionately kissing her and running his hands over her body. He unlaced her corset and under dress leaving her standing in her chemise. Soon he had that pooled around her feet. He kissed her neck and shoulder letting his beard tickle her cream skin. She laughed against his bared chest. Her hands went to his pants releasing the cloth from his body. They fell to the floor leaving him nude before her, erection standing tall.
“ Now we are even my lady.”
“ Not quite.” He looked down at himself smiling.
“ You have nothing to fear. Come give me your hand.” She tentively gave him her hand letting him lead her to the bed. He sat down on it pulling her with him. She sat astride his legs his penis resting upon her stomach.
“ This can’t be how it’s done.”
“ It’s not but the first rule is that you must be comfortable. He lifted her by her sides bringing her over his twitching member. Very slowly he lowered her onto himself groaning as she took him in. “ Are you ready to proceed?”
“ Yes.” He snaked his finger between her legs lightly stroking her clit. Calista jumped at his touch. He began to readily rub her causing her to become closer to her orgasm. The entire time he remained still only using his finger to bring her to her climax. Soon she shattered around him making it difficult to keep his self-control. When she came down she rested against his chest letting her breathing return too normal. Lord Mark rolled her onto her back beginning to pump in and out of her. She opened her eyes looking at him as he reached his own orgasm. When he came down he rolled back over sprawling him across his chest.
“ How do you feel?”
“ Different, When I …”
“ Orgasmed”
“Yes it felt like my whole body exploded. I’m so relaxed now.”
“ A true gentleman always gives his lady the ultimate pleasure first before he satisfies himself.”
“ Morgan told me that a woman does not orgasm the first time. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.” She stroked his hair running her hands over his chest and sides. He took her hands to his lips lightly kissing them.
“ It appears that we have no choice but to wed my lady.”
“ Hopefully Father Nash shall oblige us as he has Katie and Baptista.”
“ They make the other very happy. Perhaps that war wasn’t so useless after all.”
“ Oh?”
“ Well it brought you and Lord Ric were against it?”
“ At first it was true but then we made amends.”
“ What about the arrangements with Shane?”
“ I did that during the fight after he married I wasn’t to concerned about it.”
“ I’m sure.” Lord Mark cocked an eyebrow at her.
“ Come let us go see if there is anything to eat.” He hopped out of bed avoiding any more questions.
Morgan and Aurora sat in the garden talking. Morgan holding her enlarged abdomen.
“ When will he come to me?”
“ Soon, but until then you must be strong.”
“ I feel this life within me and I hope he will see it.”
“ Why wouldn’t he?” Aurora seemed nervous. By now everyone except Morgan knew that David sat in the kings dungeon awaiting execution.
“ I here him calling to me, He seems so worried.”
“ I’m sure it’s the oncoming birth. Don’t concern yourself.” They headed inside hearing the call for the evening meal. Kendra was absent making Morgan wonder. Thunder rumbled overhead and image of David flashed into Morgan’s mind. He was in pain, bruised and battered. The baby shifted in her abdomen. She let out a cry as the pains of labor began.
Kendra sat in her chamber now hearing both David and Morgan’s cries. She began to push at Eric forcing him into taking David’s place. She then sat a spell in place for when he awoke he would turn into a falcon instinctively flying to Morgan. Eric’s appearance would change to look like David’s till the axe fell. After she had finished her plans she rushed to Morgan hoping she could ease the pain. The men had all gathered outside the door unsure of what to do.
“ Move!” They parted like the red sea as she rushed through the door. The thunderstorm raged outside growing stronger as Morgan’s cries grew louder.
“ Can she give birth naturally?”
“ I do not think she can. We will have to take the baby out of her.”
“ It’s to risky.”
“ Forcing her to deliver this child shall kill her.”
“ What do you need?”
“ A knife, some rope, warm water, some clean cloth
scraps, a needle, thread and all the alcohol in this castle.”
<
Calista Aurora, and Katie rushed out of the room searching for the requested items while Kendra put Morgan into a deep trance. Lord Mark came in handing Kendra his knife in a feeble attempt to help.
“ Will she be alright?”
“ It is to early to tell, but I promise you that I will not let her die.” Katie came back with the hot water setting it by the bed. Kendra placed the knife in the water in hopes of cleaning it.“ My lord if you and the other men wish to help perhaps you could bring us fresh warm water. It will be greatly appreciated.” Morgan had begun to mumble.
“ She won’t stay like this.”
“ The pain she is in is very great. It is hard to maintain an unconscious state when you are in that much pain. Now you must go. The others are returning and you will not wish to watch the birth of your grandchild.” Lord Mark walked out signaling for the others to follow. The others did return and slowly they began the process of preparing for the on coming birth. Her wrists, ankles were bound to the corners of the bed to keep her still. Morgan’s dress was cut away around her abdomen. Then slowly Kendra sliced Morgan’s belly open quickly moving for her womb. The other women soaked up the blood trying to keep the area as clean as possible. The men came back with the water trying not to look. With in a few minutes they heard a sharp cry with the last great clap of thunder. Kendra handed the baby to Aurora who wrapped him in some clean cloth. Kendra then sewed Morgan up placing healing herbs on the cuts to help them seal. The bloody scraps were discarded and the room was cleaned. During the process Kendra had had to put Morgan back into the trance several times. Now she lay very still barely breathing.
“ What do we do now?”
“ We wait.”
“ For what?”
“ Them to be reunited. The execution is only a few hours away.”
“ How will we know him?”
“ Look for a noble falcon.”
“ Shall we send for the wet nurse?”
“ Yes, her son is probably starving.”
Lord Mark and Kane entered in looking at the aftermath.
“ She is so pale.”
“ She has lost much blood.”
“ What can we do to help her?”
“ Hope, Kendra promised me that she would not let Morgan die and I believe her.”
“ What of David?” Kane’s voice was filled with despair. “ How do we tell her that her husband has passed?”
“ Let us wait and see if Mistress Kendra’s magic has worked.” Dwayne knocked on the door.
“ Gregory and Father Nash have arrived.”
“ Tell them we will met for the morning meal. I wish to remain with my child a little longer.” Kane got the meaning pushing Dwayne out of the room shutting the door. Mark sat beside her holding her hand. His other stroked her mussed hair. She murmured something in her sleep calling to her brother. A ghostly white hand came across her cheek calming her. Mark looked up seeing a miracle. Michael sat on her other side holding her other hand rubbing the rope burns on her wrist. The two looked at the other, Mark totally stunned. He seemed at a loss for words however his son was not.
“ She is safe father, death will not come for her anymore. I shall stay with her. You must go to your lady now, she needs your comfort Morgan will not awaken for many hours.” Feeling himself possessed he stood up leaving the room heading to Calista’s side finding her truly in need of him. He held her for many hours both silently sitting holding the other tightly. When she assured him that she was fine he returned to Morgan’s side to find her awake.
“ Hello my daughter.”
“ Father?”
“ Are you hungry?”
“ Where is my child?” A slight panic filled her voice.
“ Your son is with his nurse. You must stay in bed and rest. I will send for some food and drink for you. Everyone will be happy that you’ve awakened.”
David lay in his cell barely able to move. He could see the platform with the block waiting for him through a tiny window. He looked over to Eric who almost seemed to glow.< In a split second Eric was transformed into David. Then David himself began to glow; His bones became lighter, skin and hair became feathers, feet became talons. He was soon transformed into a falcon. His heart now cried for Morgan. She had experienced great pain the night before which he had felt in his very soul. Acting on an impulse he opened his wings and headed skyward. What exhilaration he felt. Especially when the sun rose. It filled him with life causing him to fly faster.
Meanwhile Eric awoke hearing the guards coming in. They drug him from his cell. Eric caught a glimpse of himself finding that instead of his own face David’s was in his place. He now knew what was to come. The drug him up before the horrified crowd and the king Shane stood beside his father smirking.
“ I will find her and she will be mine.” Vince stood looking at David in disgust.
“ Sir David of the North you have been convicted of treason against the state. The sentence is death, have you any last words?” Eric looked around seeing many forlorn faces of the female courtiers.
“ I have the greatest gift in all the world. For her love shall take away any pain and suffering. It is because of her love that I shall return and have my revenge.” The royal family save Linda got a good laugh. She simply shook her head at the travesty. Eric was forced the platform, shoved to his knees over the block. A smelly sack was pulled over his head. Then in one swift movement it was over and the first part of Kendra’s spell had ended. When the head was held up everyone gasped. Instead of David it was Eric. The women gave a cry of relief and Linda hid her smile. Vince stood up knocking his son off balance shouting to the crowd.
“ What witchcraft is this!”
David had come to rest on a ship, which was now in sight of land. When it docked her flew fast being guided by an unseen force. He soon came upon a castle landing in a window finding his love cradling their child. She turned to the small bird as it cried to her.
“ Oh noble bird do you bring news of my most beloved husband?” The bird left it’s perch beginning to glow. Before Morgan’s eyes the bird turned into David. She stared in wonder unable to believe her eyes.
“ Beautiful Lady I bring more than news. I bring myself to your side.” He walked to her laying down beside her taking both Morgan and his son into his arms.
“ This is your son.”
“ He is as handsome as his mother is beautiful.”
“ He is also as stubborn as his father.” She leaned down to kiss him when the maid burst into the room letting out a shriek.
“ My Lords a stranger is in the ladies room! Who is he, why is he in your bed?”
“ He is no stranger this is my husband. Will you please take my son to visit his aunts?”
“ Yes my lady.” She took the sleeping child from his mother’s arms walking out. David sat up taking her lips closing his eyes.
“ If this be a dream let it never end.” His hands traveled her arms feeling her soft skin.
“ I assure you this is no dream.” She wrapped her arms around his neck letting her tongue dance with his. She pulled away from him. “ We must stop.”
“ Why?”
“ I have just given birth and must rest. When Kendra believes it is safe then we shall become one once again.”
Lord Mark then burst into the room sword drawn with Lord Ric behind him.
“ My son, it’s true you escaped!”
“ Your maid sounded as if a rogue had gotten in your bed.” Lord Mark put away his sword.
“ One did but thankfully we are already married so if he had done anything he would not have to face the normal consequences.”
“ Well you two must come down and eat with us. Everyone will be most surprised to see you David.”
“ Especially after your ordeal.” Lord Mark hit Ric in the side glaring at him.
“ Ordeal?” Morgan turned to her father wondering why David had come to her as a bird.
“ You didn’t tell her?”
“ She was heavily pregnant my son. We didn’t know how she would take the news.”
“ What news?”
“ It’s of no consequence now.”
“ Then why will none of you tell me?” She was looking at David closer seeing the scars that laced his arms. “What happened to you?”
“ I was captured while I was fleeing. This entire time I have been in the king’s dungeon. If it were not for magic I would not be alive and with you.”
“ They tried to kill you?”
“ Yes but we got the last laugh. Now all of us can live in peace without King Vince and his decrees constantly interrupting our lives.”
“ Why did no one tell me, and do not say it was because I was with child.”
“ We didn’t want you to worry, now come and eat.” Both fathers walked out leaving their children be.
“ Do you forgive them?”
“ I suppose.”
“ Then let me help you down to the main hall.”
Everyone had been truly shocked when David had walked in with Morgan by his side. No one spoke of David’s capture instead the conversation turned to Lord Mark’s oncoming wedding to Lady Calista. Kane kept placing his eye on her sister Aurora. Gregory leaned over to his long time friend.
“ You stand no chance my lord.”
“ We shall see.”
Weeks after David’s return Kendra found it harder to keep David away from Morgan’s bed.
“ When will it be time?”
“ She had to be cut open. Surely you understand that my lord.”
“ Yes I can understand but being kept away from her for so long only to have her so close again is too tempting. You cannot imagine what Shane told me what he would do to her once she was returned to him.”
“ But my good knight, he did not get her again. Only a little while longer and you may fully love her again.” He gave her frustrated groan before walking off. She looked out seeing Dwayne and Father Nash debating something while Lord Kane chased after Aurora receiving a very cold shoulder. Katie walked up behind her seeing the same sight.
“ I suspect the sisters shall take husbands at the same time.”
“ This could be true. I only hope Lord Kane can win Aurora’s heart as much as his brother has won Calista’s.”
“ King Vince has sent forces across his lands searching for us. Will the ruler of this country protect us?”
“ Yes he should. If not we can care for ourselves.”
“ I’ve heard Sir Paul has declared war on Vince. It will be interesting if he wins.”
“ If he does perhaps he will invite us home. Things should become very interesting.”
Sir Paul stood watching Lord Mark’s great castle be rebuilt. The two brothers had given Sir Paul their army and lands. As grateful as he was he could not keep it. So he would show his gratitude to them by returning their lands to their former glory. He would use the army to attack and over throw the weakened king and return his friends from exile. By now David’s escape was well known causing the royal family great embarrassment. Linda had grown ill and had traveled to stay with her daughter in Kane’s castle. Sir Paul had caught up with Andrew insuring that the younger knight would not return for the princess again. His second in command rode up to him urging him to continue onto the palace. Rather than seize the crown from the outside they would attack from the inside. They reached the city entering its gates. At once they attacked easily defeating the unsuspecting city. Vince was deposed and confined to the old royal chambers. Sir Paul sent word to Lord Mark and his family that they could now safely return home without fear of punishment from the king. However Shane overheard sneaking from the city and heading for the coast to meet their ship. Sir Paul ensured that their old homes were fully restored and ready for occupation. Shane’s patience was rewarded when David and Morgan were the first off of the ship happy to see their homeland once again. Shane stepped out drawing his sword and cornering them.
“ I do not know what witchcraft saved you but it shall not help you now.” David drew his sword pushing Morgan back.
“ You will not take her from me or my son.” The two crossed swords quickly getting into a heated battle. However Shane tricked David soon plunging his sword into David’s side. Morgan let out a cry running to her husband’s side.
“Move aside Morgan.” She took David’s sword in her hand and turned to the deposed prince.
“ Most dishonorable sir you do not rule me anymore. You have tried to destroy my family and me yet we have not fallen. Your treachery and deceit have brought shame to this land. I was wrong when I said my brother’s blood was solely on Eric’s hands, it is also on yours. Now either lay down your sword and leave or stand and fight.” Shane took up his sword pointing it at Morgan. She gathered her skirts making it easier for her to maneuver. Soon they were in a battle of their own. The other occupants of the ship had heard the shouting and the swords. All of them had rushed up on deck to see the fight, which was now growing more intense by the second. Lord Mark marveled at his daughter’s skill and speed. With one last movement she plunged the sword into Shane’s chest ending the battle. Shane feel to his knee’s griping he sword in his chest. Morgan had helped David up and was helping him to a horse so he could be rushed to a bed so Kendra could treat him. However Shane wasn’t done and with one last burst of Strength he pulled out his dagger stumbling over the couple and plunging the knife into who he thought was David but it actuality it was Morgan. A searing hot pain cut through her, while Shane fell to the ground in a heap. Kendra had seen the whole display and was the first one to get to them. Lord Mark was simply gripping the side of the boat feeling as if he were going to be sick.
