Perspective of Mark’s first wife Wren Fielding Callaway.
1999
Fifteen years gone. My son ripped out of my house by an ungrateful husband who left me for some blond bimbo with a brain the size of a pea.
No I won’t think like
that. She makes him happy and that’s all that matters. Besides she was the
first mistress and I doubt she’ll be the last. Just because he divorced me for
her means nothing. Mark thinks differently though, he’s swearing that he’s
giving up his old life for her, yeah right. He’ll be back at it as soon as the
honeymoon’s through, once a cheat always a cheat. But I won’t be bitter.
Mark and I married because I was pregnant and we made last for fifteen years.
Believe me that was no easy task. My beautiful son, god how I miss him as if it
weren’t insult enough to have Lynn hanging off his arm when he served me with
the divorce papers then he has the gaul to try and sue for full custody of our
son Payne. On top of that he didn’t even have the nerve to tell me himself. He
got his twit of a lawyer to do it for him. Now I gladly signed his papers only
asking for child support for Payne’s sake but I’ll be damned if I’d let
him take my son without a fight. Thank god I have a lawyer for a mother
otherwise the fee’s would’ve killed the settlement I had received for my
fifteen years of service. So my mother and I fought for him and many months
later a judge gave Mark and I equal custody. Since we would be living in
different states Payne would live six months with his father and six months with
me. So after I waved goodbye, fighting back tears as he boarded the airplane for
Texas I sold the house in Florida sending half of it to Mark and moved back home
to Shady Grove, Tennessee. My
mother was most vocal about my divorce and after gabbing her opinions to the
entire damn town including the story about the custody battle she laid them into
me.
“ Not only did he dump
you as his wife but also as his agent? Like that floozy can do your job or have
your connections?”
Now in case I didn’t
mention it before I’m a sports agent who specializes in wrestlers. I fell into
the job after Mark hit it big with the Undertaker gimmick. Since then I had
managed the Rock, Chyna, Sable, Lita, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn
Michaels, and Kevin Nash from their start in the WWF all the way to stardom.
Today I manage half the damn federation fifteen years ago I managed the pizza
place in the middle of town while Mark was off wrestling somewhere. I can’t
blame my clients though since my divorce all of them had either taken me out to
eat, sent flowers, or helped me move. Most of them were worried about finding a
new agent after the divorce apparently they don’t know me to well. Just
because Mark would be there didn’t mean I was going to quit. So now here I sit
in a new house surrounded by boxes trying to put off unpacking with everyone
from my graduating class showing up to see me. Payne had called everyday to
check up on me worried that I was going to break down and throw myself off of a
cliff. Apparently he doesn’t know me that well either. Oh well that’s why I
left the soccer mom suburbia in Florida. I gave up my mountains for a state full
of old people and palmetto bugs the size of your foot. For everyone born outside
of the south those are a species of cockroach. Someone’s banging on my door
like the entire town hasn’t been by. Looking out the window I see an old
friend that I actually want to see, Glen Jacobs. He had always been my pillar of
support, and lover in the last few years of my marriage. The day he walked into
my life was the best thing that could’ve happened to me. He was the one to
convince me to start living my life for me and not wait around for a dirtbag
husband who didn’t love me. I swung open the door striking a sexy pose.
“ I hear your looking
for clients Ms. Fielding.”
“ Good god Glen. I
think with everything you and I have done together that we can at least be on a
first name basis. Now get in here and let me have a look at you.” He smiled
his goofy smile at me while ducking to get into my door.
“ Well Wren I was
trying to make a serious business proposition.”
“ I’m looking to fill
Mark’s place you interested?” Glen shut the door looking at me.
“ In your bed or on
your client list?”
“ Both why you wanting
to fill those spots?”
“ Of course. Still
amazes me that he left you for her.”
“ Why? She’s younger,
has silicon implants out the ass, and is only interested in his money and
sex.”
“ Yeah but to divorce
the mother of your son after fifteen years only says one thing, jackass.”
“ I’m no angel
myself. I’ve slept with half the damn roster.”
“ And we appreciate it.
But he’s still a dumbfuck.” I gave him a smile my great protector. In the
two years I had known Glen he had always tried to do the right thing by me.
“ Well at least he’s
happy.”
“ It’s sickening.
Don’t get me started about the shit she talks.”
“ It’s easy to manage
an already established star. Wait till he gets hurt and has to plan a comeback.
Speaking of agents how come I never picked you up? I usually nail all the
kickass talent.”
“ Cause you were
starting the process for your divorce then, and I was to shy to ask.” He
ducked his head away from me. God I love it when he gets embarrassed, it’s so
cute. “ If your not busy maybe I can take you to dinner sometime.”
“ I think I’d like
that.” He gave me another goofy grin.
“ You want help
unpacking?”
“ Sure I need someone
to help me put up the beds and then test them.” Glen’s grin went from goofy
to wicked.
“ I believe that’s an
offer I can’t refuse.”
We had a lovely afternoon
“testing” all the beds, except Payne’s. I left his room deciding he should
settle himself in. The next night Glen took to me to dinner as promised. To say
that it was a perfect evening is an understatement. He was making a serious play
for my heart and I’m more than happy to give it to him. He’s probably the
only man in the back that I know would stay true to his wife. In a week Glen
made the fifteen years with Mark seem like shit. I had to fly to a show in order
for Glen to sign the papers for my to represent him and the looks we were giving
each other did not go unnoticed by Mark.
A week later Steve
Williams, that’s Steve Austin to you, was telling me of an altercation between
Mark and Glen over some “chick”. All I could do was laugh. Steve always
could tell a story. Now one of the great advantages and disadvantages about
working from home was that everyone knew where I lived. If you’re trying to
keep away from your ex husband it doesn’t help if he knows where your house
is. When Steve was leaving I received an unexpected visitor, Mark minus the
blond attachment.
“ Mark what a pleasant
surprise.”
“ What’s this I hear
about you going around with Glen?”
“ Well for starters
none of your damn business. Last I checked we were divorced which means I can go
around with whom ever I choose.”
“ No you can’t.”
“ Excuse me?”
“ You can’t because I
haven’t given you permission to date yet.”
“ Permission? I am not
a child and you certainly don’t own me. So what you can screw around on me,
date after the divorce and I can’t?”
“ Exactly”
“ I don’t think so!
I’m not going to be your back up plan Mark. If you think I’m going to let
you back in after all the shit you pulled then you’ve got another thing
coming. I’m not going to wait around anymore. I’ve moved on with my life and
Glen makes me happy. Which is something I haven’t been in a long time. Now go
home to your wife and leave me in peace.”
“ I want to take you
back on as my agent.”
“ Sorry not taking any
clients right now.” God I wish I had a camera to take a picture of the look on
his face when I told him that.
“ How can you be full
up?”
“ Well Mark when you
fired me all the new talent and some of the old jumped at the chance to have me
make them stars. Besides I’m sure Lynn is more than capable.” I gave him a
warm smile that he didn’t appreciate.
“ So I take it Jacobs
filled my spot?”
“ I’m sorry Mark
that’s private. If you truly want me to be your agent I can put you on my
waiting list.”
“ How long is it?”
“ Not to long.”
“ Fine.”
“ Great I’ll add your
name to the list and give you a call if anything opens up. Anything else?”
“ Maybe I can take you
out to eat.” A part of me cringed while another laughed. So this is what
it’s like to be the other woman.
“ I can’t, mom and I
are getting together tonight but thank you for the invite.” If I didn’t know
any better I’d say Mark looked a little hurt. But then he knew my family came
first and he wasn’t apart of it anymore. Besides tonight was important to me.
Tonight was the night I was going to finally introduce Glen to my mother. Before
Mark could extend any more invitations I ushered him out so I could get ready.
Now if you think that Mark would give up that easily then your wrong. But him
showing up at my mother’s after the divorce? I doubted it. Unless he wanted to
be chased down the street by woman with a shotgun. My mother is slightly off her
rocker, but in a good way. She likes to stir up trouble make things more work
than they have to be, generally be an all around pain in the ass. Not to mention
her sick obsession with me being married. When I told her about Glen she was
ecstatic. Been planning out wedding ever since. I left my house noticing that
Mark and his truck were still sitting outside. I drove right by him politely
waving. Technically I could walk to my mother’s house she lived right down the
road from me but I wanted my car there so Glen and I could make a quick get
away. Mom was all smiles when I showed up.
“ What took you so
long?”
“ Had an unexpected
guest.”
“ Wasn’t who I think
it was?”
“ Depends who are you
thinking of?”
“ That cradle robbing
bastard.”
“ Then yes mom it was
him.”
“ What did he want?”
“ He wants me to be his agent again.”
“ I hope you told him
no.”
“ I put him on the
waiting list which he’ll remain on the bottom of. He knows that new talent
gets priority over made talent. Now when Glen gets here please don’t give him
the ninth degree.”
“ I just want to make
sure he’s not going to hurt my little girl.” I gave my mom a look as I
started dinner. Glen still had another hour till he was supposed to show up.
Unfortunately Mark was either feeling brave or stupid because five minutes
before Glen was due he showed up. Thankfully the shotgun was firmly bolted to
the wall.
“ What do you want
now?”
“ I want to talk with
him.”
“ As I hear you already
did with your fists. Now I’m not going to have you two fighting in my
mother’s house.”
“ Well can I stay for
dinner?”
“ Get out! Mark tonight
is very important to me.” Little did I know that Glen had shown up and had
seen Mark’s truck. He was now getting ready to fight if he had too. The door
opened and Glen stepped in a very serious look on his face. Mark turned to look
at him smirking. For the first time I noticed Glen’s fading black eye.
“ Mark what did you do
to him?”
“ Taught him a little
lesson about banging other men’s wives.”
“ I’m not your wife
anymore.”
“ I wasn’t talking
about now. I come to find out that you two were having a little affair behind my
back.”
“ Hey at least I know
how to appreciate a woman like Wren. Maybe if you had seen her for who she
really is then maybe you wouldn’t have left her all those times or divorced
her. Kinda funny that you didn’t want her a few months ago and now she’s all
you want. Maybe because you know you can’t have her. Now the only I didn’t
kick your ass last week was out of respect but even that’s fading. Now if you
want we can finish this outside or you can be a gentlemen and leave.” <
God I love that man. Have to make sure I make him a very happy one after dinner.
“ I’m not letting him raise Payne.”
“ Like I had any choice when you married Lynn?”
“ They get along fine.”
“ Not the way I hear it he’s called me everyday to ask me when he can come home.”
“ He is home.” My mother didn’t like the way that one came out.
“ Surely you remember the agreement where he lives six months with his mother and six months with you.”
“ I’m still not giving up the fight for full custody, especially now that he’s in the picture.”
“ You can’t take him away from me. I’m his mother. I brought him into this world while you were out carousing with every woman you could find. I gave up law school for him so I could stay home and raise him while you were out wrestling. I have done nothing but sacrifice for you and this is how you repay me?”
“ Like screwing half the roster is so much better.”
“ That was when you started bringing your mistresses home to stay with us.” I looked at Glen’s face noticing that he was looking at me with pure shock. He knew about all my flings but I had never told him the extent of Mark’s adultery. Then as if it were in slow motion Glen reached back and punched Mark knocking him to the floor with a solid thud.
“ I think it’s time you left.” Glen picked him up opening the door and chucking him out. Then he slammed the door in his face locking it so Mark couldn’t get back. My mother turned to look at me.
“ I like him.” Then back at Glen. “ How about you and Wren come on back dinner’s ready and waiting”
Five months after my confrontation with Mark my beautiful son came back to me like Persephone returning to her mother after being abducted by Hades. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life. I had Glen and Payne in my life. What more could I ask for then to have the two men I love the most in my life. My business soared especially after I signed Brock Lesner, Randy Orton, and John Cena three of the hottest prospects in Ohio Valley. Payne was none to shy about Lynn either. He told me everything about her.
“ She’s 23 mom, it’s sick.”
“ How do you know she’s 23?”
“ Look at her drivers license. It’s truly pathetic that she tries to be like you.”
“ Be like me?”
“ Trying to run dads career. So far she’s gotten him worse hotel rooms than when he first started out and apparently a hatchback for a rental. It’s to funny.”
“ Got to start out somewhere honey. Other than that is she nice?”
“ Hell no! She’s all sweet and sugary around dad but when he leaves she turns into a first rate bitch. She got all pissed at me because she said that she could easily take you and I told her that you were way out of her league.”
“ That’s so sweet.” That’s my son for you. Always sticking up for his mom like that. Gets him in more trouble than you’ll ever imagine. He and Glen hit it off perfectly it wasn’t like I had any doubts. Glen had been in our lives since he showed up in the WWF and he and Payne had always gotten along. Glen was more like Payne’s older brother or his best friend than a father figure. That was Mark’s place and Glen respected that. Even though Payne told me sometimes he wished I was married to Glen. Him and I both to all of us the six months flew by and before we knew it Payne was getting on the plane headed back to Texas.
