Raw Responses and SmackDown! Summaries by Stephen Ashfield: |
It’s always a big deal when there’s a new heel in town. Someone new to challenge the faces, someone with real power, someone who isn’t called ‘Coach.’ Why on earth do we need yet another non-wrestler to be given a push on Raw? It’s bad enough with Bischoff, JR and the McMahon family, now we have the prospect of Coach v Jerry ‘Over the Hill’ Lawler on next weeks show. I suppose Coach fills the shoes that used to be filled by Sean Morley, and that’s another puzzling question. After Chief Morley was sacked and became Val Venis again (without ever explaining all the Right To Censor crap), surely a Morley v Bischoff feud was on the cards. But since when was anything logical on Raw? Again wrestlers are being pushed into sketches backstage rather than getting a push in the ring. Most of the SHIT storyline belongs on children’s TV. Lance Storm is totally wasted messing around with Goldust, just like Booker T was. If Vince wants comedy on the show, then bring back Doink and be done with it. What happens to Kane now is the next burning question! Will he shrug off his injuries with a new towel on his head or is the mask back for good? This storyline gets more crazy as the weeks go by. How can Shane inflict damage on the monster when RVD couldn’t? And just how many times have WWE wrestlers played back the moment when Kane fell of the top turnbuckle I wonder? Raw has to try and give some stellar wrestling performances to its audience sooner or later otherwise the ratings will never get back to where they were. Give the IC belt the respect it deserves, get some new tag teams and liven up the World Heavyweight title situation. It looks as if Goldberg will be getting the belt at Unforgiven. Why the hell have we got a stupid retirement match? That means nothing unless Vince has had enough of Goldberg and wants that contract terminated as soon as possible. Anyway Goldberg has already lost one retirement match in WCW so they don’t mean anything do they? If Goldberg is to become champion, Raw should be getting ready for a Number One Challengers tournament. Vince should try and get some new top level feuds going. He should also bite the bullet and accept that wrestlers such as Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels should be in the tag division long term trying to breathe life into that side of the business. They simply aren’t top level challengers anymore, the same goes for Ric Flair. Oh and if Vince thinks filling the ring with three McMahon’s is going to get the ratings up, then he really has bladed that forehead one too many times. Over on Smackdown there’s a similar problem. The WWE Title has been contested by Angle, Lesnar, Undertaker and Big Show for far too long. New blood has to be introduced. Give Eddie Guerrero his chance, see what Rhyno and John Cena could do and accept the fact that Benoit may be small but he’s hugely talented. All this doesn’t look likely just yet with Undertaker getting another push at the title. Lesnar is becoming a problem too. You can’t go round turning the guy heel, making him look an absolute monster then have him lose to Angle and Undertaker in less than a week! The credibility has gone for Lesnar and he must go to Raw before the end of the year. The cruiserweight division has to be sorted out as well. Just when will Kidman turn heel on Mysterio and will Ultimo Dragon ever be given another chance?
