Bristol Central Wrestling
Preseason At the end
of last year, the Bristol Central Wrestling Team participated in some
off-season/postseason weightlifting. This lifting was for the kids not
doing a spring sport, but still wanted to weightlift in the
off-season. We also did some off-season mat moving occasionally,
which is definitely a highlight of the off-season.
During the summer, the team visited a wrestling camp in Pennsylvania.
Much of the team went to the camp including two incoming freshman.
At camp, we learned and improved our techniques and also got a lot of
off-season mat time. Most of us got 10 or more matches in just
only a few days. When the new
school year started, we started a voluntary running and weightlifting
program which ran for three days a week. We worked on our core
strength and our muscle endurance. We also ran to get into
shape. The preseason workouts were interesting because we used a
variety of different exercises and tools to aid us. We used items
such as medicine balls and "Therabands" with our exercises. In
November, some of the team went to a wrestling clinic that was being
held by Army Wrestling at West Point Military Academy. This clinic
provided us with extra help with the little things in wrestling
and we all learned something from it. We also stayed a little
while at the clinic in order to watch some of the Army's Black and Gold
match. The
preseason lasted for approximately two months and will prove beneficial
to us on our upcoming season.
