Superpatriot
The local stores have finally cut the price of the Legendary Comic Heroes figures since they've been discontinued. So I snagged some. And two of them happened to be Superpatriot figures. So I made another Superpatriot custom. This time in his S.O.S. duds (basically just a blue shirt instead of yellow.) OK, basically it's the same as the first. Basecoat of gunmetal on arms and legs and guns, then drybrush of steel followed by argent silver. Added some nice colorful details. The two small wrist guns came from a ML 9 War Machine. The right one is glued on, the left is removable via magnets. The claw hand came from a LCBH Ripclaw. The larger wrist cannon was from the Kid's Connection set and is attached with a magnet. Oh yeah, just like drawing them, painting stars is a bitch. Enjoy.
I've finally started getting some more Legendary Comic Book Heroes figures in my area. I snagged some Superpatriots because ever since I saw Kyle Robinson's Superpatriot custom I had to take a crack at it. So first thing I did was dig out my Superpatriot mini-series from way back. The toy seemed to be modeled after Dave Johnson's artwork so I painted him to look like the comic book. Since Superpatriot's arms were in gun-mode more often than not in the comic book, I decided to give him two gun arms. The scope on the right gun was from some Spawn gun cut off and glued onto Superpatriot's arm. The mini gatling gun I think was a GI Joe weapon but I'm not sure. I cut off the handle, stuck a rare earth magnet into Superpatriot's left arm as well as in the gun. I wanted to use a Doc Ock tentacle for the ammo belt, but it wasn't long enough or flexible enough. I found this belt and I know the bullets look a little too big for the gun, but it's just a toy, right? Then I basecoated his arms and legs with Testors Gunmetal. Then I drybrushed on a coat of Testors Steel followed by another drybrushing of Testors Silver. I really like the way that turns out and it has been my method as of late for painting metal. Then it was a matter of adding all the little details. I wanted some color rather than just silver and black since that's what was in the comic. So I added red, green, blue, and black wires. Some clear yellow for gold details. I also added some gloss black to areas to give it a black metal look. The pony tails were given a wash of grey and drybrushed white. I painted the eyes of one masked head with clear blue for calm mode and the other with clear red for pissed-off-going-on-a-killing-spree-mode. The unmasked head was just painted silver with blue eyes. I added a little shading on the face as well. Overall I'm happy with the way it turned out. I do wish I had better hobby shops in my area though, I would've liked a brighter silver like Argent Silver or a chainmail silver of some type. Finding Testors paints is becoming harder and harder and I'm too damn cheap to order online.
