The Rock went on a real tear in the summer of 1998, taking over the Horsemen and remolding them into his own image. As part of his rise to prominence, he won a match with Genesis for a shot at the Intercontinental title. The next week, he went into the match with Riptide and nailed the Rock Bottom for the pinfall and the Intercontinental Championship.
