Emmaline Simpson or Surface
I found this on the Linkous/Linkes family history homepage by John Linkes. It lists Abraham Linkous as marrying Emmaline Simpson, daughter of William Simpson.

This suggests that Emmaline Simpson Surface may have simply been Emmaline Simpson.
Looking on the LDS site, I found that people have Submitted information that says that Emmaline Simpson who married Abraham Linkous is the daughter of William Simpson and Nancy Hornbarger. Some of them have Peter and Elizabeth Hornbarger listed as Nancy Hornbarger Simpson's parents.
These do not have sources listed.
This got me thinking. Do I have sources for Emmaline Simpson Surface being the daughter of Adam Surface and Agnes Price? I found that I did not have any sources other than "common knowledge" so I have been trying to locate a birth record for Emmaline Simpson Surface.
As I live in West Virginia and have not traveled to Montgomery County, VA or to Richmond, all my resources are online. So far, I have not found any records. I know that they could have been destroyed so we may never know.
I found the will of Peter Hornbarger and he lists a daughter Nancy Simpson and leaves her $5.00
Nancy and William were said to have been married 1808 in Montgomery County VA. This would give them time to be Emmaline's parents as she was born in 1819.
Peter also bought land from Allen Simpson in 1805. Allen is the father of William Simpson, so this proves that they knew each other.
I have a record of births, it looks like a bible record, sent to me by Don Rheta Margolis who is a decendent of Abraham and Emmaline. On it Emmaline's birthday is listed as January 26, 1819. It also lists the birthdates of their children
So, if anyone out there can tell me which Emmaline is the wife of Abraham, I would be greatful.
The 1880 Rocky Gap, Bland County VA shows that Emmaline is living with her son George Washington Linkous and his wife Attila Dillon Linkous. They have her age as 50, which would mean that she would have been born in 1830, we know that she was born 1819, makeing her 61, I suppose that the census takers writing could have been bad and the "6" could have looked like a "5" but the ages of George, Charley, and Geneva are correct.
