CANDLE MAGICK

Public Domain Pagan Clipart

Candle magick is one of the easiest magicks to learn. The best thing about it, is that it almost always works. The basic techique is quite simple...

First you need to pick a candle colour. If you check out my colours page it should be able to help you. The colour should match your intention in the spell. Remember to have the spell and ritual design laid out before starting your magickal working.

Colours

Like everything else your candle does need to be cleansed. Some people just us water, but most prefer oil. This is actually called anointing/dressing your candle. Dip your finger in the oil or water and start at the top of the candle and draw a line until you reach the middle. Then move to the bottom and draw another line up to the middle once again. This action helps to bring something toward you. If you are trying to banish you will do the opposite... start in the middle and then draw up/down.

Next I like to write my intentions in the candle itself. Something simple, like if the spell is to bring joy into your life, then carve "joy" into the candle. You can combine magicks at this point, by using a magickal alphabet or runes instead of plain old english writing. Do not use your athame... a bolline is perfect but if you don't have one a pin will do just fine. Remember to be specific in your carving and wording... you don't want to get something you didn't really mean to ask for.

Finally it's time to light and burn the candle. It really helps to visualize the outcome as the candle burns. A helpful hint... the smaller the candle, the less burning time. At Occult shops you can find candle magick candles, which are perfect, if not use anything you can find. You don't need to sit in front of the candle the whole time. Once you feel you work is done you can leave the candle, but it must burn until the end.... unless it's a huge candle (let's think logically people).
