Osiris was thought to be the son of the God Geb (Earth) and the Goddess Nut (Sky). He was the husband and brother of Isis and the father of Horus.
Osiris was depicted in bearded human form wrapped up as a mummy, holding the crook and flail. In many pictures he was shown with green skin, alluding to his role as a god of vegetation. He wore a crown known as the "Atef", composed of the tall conical white crown of Upper Egypt with red plumes on each side.
Osiris is most famous for His death. He was murdered and dismembered by his rival and brother Seth. It was Isis who searched Egypt high and low for the pieces of his body. She reassembled his body and impregnanted herself with his seman. This pregancy resulted in the birth of their beloved son Horus.
"...He was believed to be willing to admit all such as had lived a good and correct life upon earth, and had been buried with the appropriate ceremonies under the protection of certain amulets, and with proper recital of certain 'divine words' and words of power."
On the mundane plane, Horus would live to avenge his fathers' death by defeating Seth.
