Chapter Three

Part One~Eli

Written By Eli

As we were walking to where the family was waiting I sensed something was wrong with Dermott. I quickly looked out of his eyes to see a cage made of black wind surrounding him. I knew who it was, but I had to be sure. So I listened through him. Sure enough I heard the evil laugh of Medwin.

I decided to make a break for the ship. Before I left I put a shielding wind spell around Lana to make sure she wouldn't sense Medwin's presence. I knew the spell would fade out as soon as I reached the ship so I had to hurry. While running towards the ship Maeve told me to come back. I told her that I had to check on Dermott.

When I got to the room Dermott and I share I saw Medwin. He said, "Eli, I knew you would come if I captured your precious bird. Now, come back to the evil side with me, or your sisters' new found friends will be nowhere to be found." I replied, "One, don't kid yourself about me becoming evil again. That is one mistake I will never make again. And two, don't even try to hurt my sisters or the Hanson family."

Medwin evilly cackled and said, "You are an untrained fool. What could you do to possibly hurt me?" "Well, for starters a black wind of death might be nice," I seriously replied. He just laughed and told me, "The day you try that is the day your sisters find out the real reason I took your parents." With that he left, but not before he released Dermott and dropped something at my feet. I picked it up and saw it was my mother's ruby necklace. Before I could stand-up well I heard someone say my name.

Part Two~Lana

A little while after Eli took off toward the ship Maeve asked me if I sensed anything wrong with Eli. I tried to sense him, but I failed. Something was blocking me. So Maeve did something and I tried again. This time it worked.

I sensed a powerful source of evil near him. All Maeve said, "He is in trouble. He knows not to do that." Well, with that I ran to where he was. I heard his voice coming from behind a slightly closed door. Then I saw a black flash of light.

When it faded I opened the door a little more and loudly whispered, "Eli, you there?" He turned very quickly and tried to hide something behind his back. I said, "Eli, what is that behind your back?" He just looked like it was nothing. Then I stated, "You have never hid something from me before why start now?"

So he pulled it out from behind his back and showed me. Then he said, "It is our mom's necklace." I started to feel the tears coming, but I held them back. Then he said, "Promise not to tell Maeve. Or she will know why I came here." Before I could say that I promised we heard someone telepathically ask, 'Don't tell Maeve what?'

Part Three~Taylor

Written By Zirconia

I watched a group of four people, all dressed in black or dark blue clothing, approach of slowly. "Hey Mom, I think that may be our teacher," I said. My mom was busy making sure Mackie and Avery and Jessie weren't getting into any trouble again, so she wasn't paying much attention to me. "What Taylor?" she asked, looking up. "I said, I think that is our new teacher." The whole family looked to where I was gesturing, and we all saw the only guy, who also looked older than Ike, do an about-face and start running back to the docks.

After that, the smallest girl ran after him, leaving the other two standing alone and looking very confused. They continued walking towards us, and I could tell they felt embarrassed.

"Hello, I'm Maeve. I assume you are the Hanson family?" the woman said, her voice soft and polite. My mother nodded, smiling warmly. "Yes, I am Diana Hanson, and this is my husband Walker." My dad extended his hand, and Maeve shook it. "My children are Mackenzie, Avery, Jessica, Zachary, Taylor, and Isaac," Mom continued, pointing to each of us. Maeve gestured to the young woman beside her. "This is Zirconia. Her bother, Eli, and sister Lana had some, well, incident occur and had to run back to the boat." Maeve explained, slightly embarrassed. "Zirconia, why don't you go and check on them?" she asked. Zirconia nodded, her eyes staring at the ground. "I'll go with her," I offered, hoping I could get her to talk. Maeve smiled gratefully. "Thank you Taylor."

Zirconia hadn't said a word the entire walk to the boat, so finally I decided to take charge. "How old are you?" I asked her. She glanced over at me, and for the first time I got a glimpse at her eyes. They were an almost translucent blue, so light they almost seemed clear. "I'm fourteen," she replied, her voice sounding slightly whispery with a small English accent. "You have beautiful eyes," I commented without really thinking about it. Zirconia blushed, then stared at the ground. When she turned back to me she looked right into my eyes, and I now saw her eyes were a deep violet color. "Oh my..." I began, but trailed off. She smiled. "It's a trick I learned. But right now I have to concentrate on finding my brother and sister." she fell silent again, and I could almost hear her thinking. "Ok, they're on the boat." she said after a minute. Weird, I thought to myself.

We walked onto the boat and Zirconia somehow knew exactly where they were. She quickly hurried down under the deck, where I overheard a guy's voice talking. He said not to tell Maeve about something or other. Zirconia and I were deathly quiet, but to my surprise the two looked over at us.

"Zirconia!" the girl exclaimed. "Lana, answer me. I asked you guys what you were talking about." I stared at Zirconia, my mind in a whirl. "You didn't ask her anything," I began. Zirconia's brother and sister nodded, then said at the same time, "Yes she did." I looked around the room and realized something. I was surrounded by loonies.
