Cy-Gor #4 - "excuisite corps"

Pictures : cover | page 1 | page 8 | page 15

Cy-Gor #4 was better. It was a gory tale about a sculpter who used living bodies for his work ! Cy-Gor doesn't play a big role in this comic, only in the end he interacts with the other characters.

The story was good and the main character in this story wasn't Cy-Gor, but the artist named Lucienne Sangfroid. This sculpter is a medical school reject who uses his medical knowledge for his art. He takes living bodies and mutilates them into the form he wants. Then he stops them in a tube and lets a breathing flued fill the glass prison. He gets his victims through 2 weed addicted goons, who also bring him his last and to us familiar victim, mr. Warner. Warner has been caught by the gypsies and given to the drugg addicts. When Warner is put in the "sculpting chair" and Sangfroid is ready to work on his newest piece, Cy-Gor comes barging in and after killing one of the 2 goons he takes care of the artist by pooring the breathing flued over him and making him a work of art too.

This issue both frightened me as made me happy. The happy part was because both the art work as well as the writing has improved ! Although the writing is not to the McFarlane Production standards yet, this was one great story. The story was build up well and the extra characters in it brought a suiting atmosphere. It was also a tale of irony. The artist became a work of art himself and also the victim was saved by the victim. The first speakes for itself, because Sangfroid is made a work of art by Cy-Gor in the end, but the second is more special as it has influence for the rest of the issues. Cy-Gor saves Warner by killing Sangfroid and by not killing Warner himself ! This also gives Warner the oppportunity to study Cy-Gor better as he lives in the "wild".

An issue with consequence to the rest of the story, but also a good issue on itself. And I hope to see more issues of this kind. I am getting used to the artwork and I am liking it more and more. But I think the writing could be improved by giving more info about the main characters and by not telling separate stories, but by making it one continuing one. I liked it, but it need improvement to keep it interesting. Check it out if it interests you or else keep track of the reviews and see if it becomes more interesting !
