Part I: Getting Started
by Ted Shred
If this is your first time you may need to try a few things before you
get comfortable making coordinated turns on any surface.
I recommend trying these few things:
1) Feet positioning
- Where you place your feet is extremely important. Your back foot
should be just in front of the stomp or touching it - I've seen someone
stand on top of it because it's more comfortable. Your front foot should
be about 6 inches or more back from the front of the board - if you have
standard grip tape there is a small triangle that you can use to
place your foor
2) Speed
- Slowly increase your speed but stay within your comfort zone. The faster
you are going, the easier it is to turn. However, going too fast can be
a disaster!
3) Leaning into Your Turns
- Once you are moving as fast as you feel comfortable going, LOOK to
where you want to turn and lean. Make sure your knees are bent
and you STAY LOW. This is where the majority of the learning needs to
be done.
- I recommend grabbing your outside rail for a while until you are more
confident. I still grab my rail in critical situations. By grabbing the
rail you stay lower and help your carveboard to bank harder.
