Tell Me
Look closer and tell me if this is the man
that strung your heart up like a flag
so high it could see forever
made you feel like a meadow full of
the most brilliant colors.
Tell me, is this the man
that later cut the wire
as you stood frozen not knowing
your heart had changed to glass
as he sat smoking
overlooking your watery face
and laughing at a joke.
And tell me is this when
you put on your winter clothes
and slid his photo
along with all the funny names
he called you into an envelope
stamped with your sorrow
and called it a poem?
