IN HIS ANGUISH

by Rebecca McLendon

He stood in the streets Staring at the crowds.Sickness and death Came crowding all around. He stood in the temple,Facing unbelief Brilliant minds attacked Him,Causing Him to grieve. He stood on the hills,And wept for the city.He wanted to shelter them,Protect them from the storm. But they refused His love,And threw Him into jail. His anguish rang aloud,As they drove in the first nail. He stands in His church,Staring at the same Sickness, death and unbelief As they play their deadly games.Seven women all cling to Him,Crying "Take away our shame,Only let us choose our way,But all in your great name." In His anguish He cried For the people who forsook Him And in His anguish He died For the people who took Him To the cross for their sin. But in His power He rose To break the deadly chains of Hell,And in His love He sits and waits To come again. And in His glory He'll come A shout of triumph on His lips And in a twinkling we'll changeTo meet the Bridegroom In the air.
