This site and idea was born out of several e-mails to classmates. In these correspondences, I shared that my daughter and I "may" be traveling Route 66 in our '32 Ford during the Summer of 2001.

From these conversations came what you see here. If you would like to take a couple of weeks and join us. .. it could be great fun!!!

If you live on or near Route 66 and would like to join us for a "leg" of the trip. . . or have lunch or dinner. . . that would be great too!!!!

"Route 66. . . was the road of dreamers and ramblers, drifters and migrants - the chosen path of John Steinbeck, Woody Guthrie and Jack Kerouac."
M. Wallis

“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policies and coercion are fruitless. We  find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip : a trip takes us.”
- John Steinbeck

Following are some thoughts from our classmates

From Terry Sprague

John - this is really unbelievable. One dream of mine (about 8 years ago) was to get a small RV and work my way around the country. I wanted to visit classmates living in other states and also to be a part of the local special "doin's". You know - see a real rodeo, etc.

Kathy's comment about a road trip get together made me think about it and realize that I ain't gettin' any younger! Since this year is spoken for for me and time off work, we should put some more thought into a group Rt 66 thing for next summer. Whaddya' say?

From Kathy Jones (Miata)

I'm joining the crowd. This is a real possibility you know. I want to be on the PR committee to get NBC to follow us.

From Jeff Reed

Hi John. Hope that trip comes together. We'll be here at the tail end. We live a half mile off route 66 in Rialto. Did you know there is a WigWam motel here? Doesn't look near as nice as the other one in the picture.
Jeff Reed

From Van Pinkerton ('55 Chevy)

Hey John, Sounds like great fun. I know the '55 Chevy will make it from my house to Santa Monica. Let me know when the caravan will be passing by and I'll join you in Victorville (Roy Rogers Museum & hometown). The more the merrier.
Van Pinkerton
(Van will lead the way (last 100 miles) to the Santa Monica Pier & Pacific Ocean)

From Penny Derringer (Sunny)

Dear John,
. . . . We're (Penny & Mom) talking about doing part of the RT 66 road trip. What fun!

Laird

From Fred Lightfoot

I won't be able to meet you but sounds like Fun. After I got out of the Army I hitchhiked to LA and back partly on 66.
Fred

From Linda Bailey-Wells

When I was a lot younger, I had a boyfriend who had the longest hair I had ever seen on a man. In the late 60's we made the trip down Rt. 66 (in our 49 Studebaker Commodore) several times to California, land of the free and home of the hip, according to a song by Biff Rose.

In the late 70's my "ex" and our son moved to Kingman Ariz. We had many afternoons in Oatman, playing with the burros, having our picture taken in front of the Oatman jail and had lunch under the London Bridge one afternoon, a little side trip You might want to take.

Memories of a gas war on the way where gas was like 12.5 cents a gallon. Stopping in a cafe in Oklahoma to get a cup of coffee and some wiseacre playing "Okie from Muskogee" repeatedly on the juke box........... the wonderful feeling when after all those miles we crossed the state line into Ohio..........
Linda

From Al Figley

John, Let me know when the caravan will be going through Victorville, CA. We'll join Van with our '73 Porsche 914. It sounds like a blast. Keep me posted.
Al Figley & Donna Cuadra

From Rick Leigh

. . . the road trip sounds awesome. I travel to California every August on business (. . . 2 hours a day). I'd love to make part of the trip even if it is only the party. . .
