Winters from
our Youth
Do you
remember where this is?

I
believe regardless of the
differences of our religous beliefs,
that we are more similar than we are different.
I
have always belived in Santa Claus.
The
older I get, the deeper my belief.
I
came across this wish . . blessing . . .
sentimental thought many
years ago.
In
celebration of the season and our simiarites,
I share the following:
There
is, you can see, and I think it quite clear,
Truly
a Santa who visits each year.
A
spirit like God, whom we never see
He
enters the hearts of each of us."
"Each
year at Christmas for one special night
We
become him and make everything right.
But
the REAL spirit of Christmas
.
is
in you and in me,
and
I hope you are old enough now to see
That
as we believe and continue to give,
Our
friend Santa Claus will continue to live."
May
God bless each of you and
have a blessed holiday.
Season's
Greetings

You know John, we really did love each other back then - Tom Reese,
Dave Davis, you, me, Dave's cousin Jack (can't remember his last name),
and others too numerous to mention. But we just didn't realize
it. I guess "maturity" brings wiseness.

Thanks for this and yes, I remember winters like those depicted in the
pic at the foot of St. Clair Ave.
You're right, it is indeed all about love. . . .
Best to you and yours, and Merry Christmas...er Christ Mas!

From Charlie J:
Merry Christmas John,
Jim's right. This picture is at the bottom of Lincoln & St Clair
Aves. I too remember the Guard plowing Ogden St. What a wonderful
childhood we had. Besides the memories you wrote I remember the
Christmas parade and stores being open late on Thursday night. We often
laugh about the Santa Claus at Kings.
God Bless you & your family this Christmas Season John. You are in
my daily prayers.
Thanks for all you do!
In Christ,

Jim P:
Thanks for posting that great picture. I presume that was the big snow
storm of 1950? It looks like the picture was taken from the upper floor
of central fire station looking north to the foot of St. Clair Ave. The
gas station on the corner hadn’t been built yet.
I remember seeing the National Guard out clearing the streets with
tanks & road graders during that big snow. It looks a lot like what
I see out my window right now. We had anywhere from 18 to 24 inches of
snow Saturday. Thankfully, my neighbor has a snow blower & we’ve
cleared our driveways & sidewalks, but it’s going to take a while
for the area to dig out of this one.
May you & your loved ones enjoy a blessed and joyous Christmas this
year and a very happy and prosperous new year! . . .
Peace & Love & Happiness always,

Jessie:
John,
I lived on Shadyside Ave, and if you remember, the WOHI towers were
manned at the "nob" top of the hill. The man who worked there was
stranded and my neighbor Charlie Brenneman had a heart attack. An army
tank came to rescue them both, can you imagine? Seeing a tank
come down your road???
I remember that the snow came to the top of our barn and we jumped from
the roof into the pile.
Have a blessed and happy Christmas to you and your family !! None
of that politically correct Seasons Greetings - I said
Merry
Christmas and
I mean it.
