THE FIREMAN

He bowed his head and tears flowed down
His burnt and weary face
He wiped his eyes and stared once more
At the burning, firey, place.
The call came in--a house on fire
Everyone grabbed their gear
The truck was there in minutes
There was no time for fear.
He rushed inside and heard the cries
Of people needing help
He took his ax and made a hole
For others to get out.
The smoke was thick but on he went
Up another flight of steps
He heard a small child crying
And trying to get his breath.
He placed a mask of oxygen
Upon his tiny face
But too much smoke had filled his lungs
He died in his embrace.
After everyone got out
He bowed his head to pray
And God sent down two Angels
To help him find the way.
A man can only do so much
You did your best tonight
The time had come to take him Home
He has seen the beautiful Light.
The pain is great when you lose someone
Especially--a child
But I thank you God for all you've done
In helping me save others.
Thanks for sending Angels
To help me through each day
And I will bow down on my knees
To say my prayers and give praise.
