Coach Joe Tiller today announced this afternoon the signing of 19 student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent to join four others already enrolled at Purdue for a 23-member freshman class. The class features 14 offensive players, eight defensive players and one special teams player.

There are seven wide receivers, four offensive linemen, four defensive backs, three running backs, two defensive linemen, one quarterback, one linebacker and one punter.

Geographically-speaking, the recruits hail from 11 different states: four from both Ohio and Texas; three from both Indiana and Michigan; two from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania; and one each from California, Connecticut, Kansas, Washington and Wyoming. "We consider this class to be the best one we've signed since we've been at Purdue," Tiller says. "We feel it addresses some, not all, of our needs for the 2000 season. We believe we have enough talented players in this group that several of them will make it to the field this fall.

"We continued to accelerate our efforts to recruit what we consider to be the best players for Purdue. As we have raised the bar on the field, we also have raised the bar with recruiting. Several of the players we signed could be labeled as 'heavily recruited,' and several of the players we recruited were not labeled that way. We have had some success and few disappointments." 2000 Football Look

Next year, the football team will look to make amends for a disappointing 7-5 1999 campaign and stunning Outback Bowl loss to Georgia. Coach Joe Tiller and his staff will have plenty of talent returning to do so. The following is a position-by-position look at the 2000 Boilermakers.

The moment Drew Brees announced he'd return to Purdue for his senior season, fans started thinking of what could be in 2000.

Purdue, though, by no means will be a one-man show, as plenty of talent and experience returns next year, when the Boilers try to erase the memories of a disappointing 7-5 season and stunning overtime Outback Bowl loss to Georgia.

In the following, GBI takes a very early look at the 2000 Boilermakers, position by position. Remember, this is tentative, as things can change quickly in the offseason with the tear of an ACL or the signing of a particular player, or a variety of other factors. This prospectus will be updated as things change.

New Purdue Recruits

I found out that one of the top quarterbacks has commited with Purdue. His name is Brandon Hance from Taft High School in Woodland Hills California. He is 6-1, 188 pounds, and has a 4.6 on his 40 time. He will be great after Drew Brees leaves. he is 59th in the Tom Lemming Top 100. "A precision passer who can find secondary receivers; a winner."

Wide recievers Gary Heaggans, John Standeford, and Andre Henderson have commited to Purdue. Gary Heaggans is 6-2 from Schlagle in Kansas City Kansas, he weighs 185 pounds and his 40 time is 4.6. He is 126th in Tom Lemmings Top Rectruits. John Standeford is 6-4, 175 pounds and has a 4.5 on the 40. He is from Monrovia, Indiana. He is 154th. Andre Henderson is 6-3, 195 pounds, and also has a 4.5 on the 40. He is from Coffman in Dublin, Ohio.
