Took some time today to let my mind wonder
Thought of the things that have moved through my days
And of those who have touched my heart

Asked myself the life long question that no one can answer
While here, Have I been a good person?
Have I shown compassion to those in need?

And the role of father has been dear to me
They have grown strong and make me smile at every opportunity
Loyalty was never a question to the one I loved
Companionship was a role I may well have been lacking in

Ah yes a flaw, A imperfection
Definitions of a human being
Quick with a smile from the back of the room
Quiet voice, words were not always understood
The message was clear, But one had to listen

Watched my parents grow old through tear filled blues
And told my Mom good-bye
Dad smiles less than what childhood memories recall
Sisters call with words of love and childish giggles
The family clown continues the role played so well
Friends move along on the well beaten path of eternity

Thought of Christmas mornings and Thanksgiving dinners
Sled rides and hide and seek
Vacations with the backseat view

Remember that first kiss? The holding of hands?
Swore our life long love to each other
But then again a week is eternity to a 12 year old
And the black eyed beauty shall be within the heart forever

Oh yes life has been good, A many a snapshot taken with the heart
They come and go in the mind, Late at night mostly
When all is said and done, When the book is closed
Let those who have known you simply say
My what a nice person he or she was
And life has been richer with their presence

You know, I've always felt all roads lead to the same home
If you arrive before me leave a light in the window
And I will keep the love in my heart for you all.
