Travel Tips

A valid passport good for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date. Light, comfortable clothing; natural fabrics are the best for the tropical climate of the Philippines. Bring some formal pieces of attire such as a light sports jacket and slacks. Shorts and light shirts are a must! If you are going to the provinces, make sure you have plenty of good mosquito repellent. If you go to one of the bigger cities, you will not enjoy the air pollution. Try and get out to the provinces so you can see the real beauty of the Philippines.

No need to secure a visa for your trip. U.S. citizens are automatically issued a 21-day visa when you arrive at the airport. You have the option of extending it.

No shots are required by the U.S. State Dept. while visiting the Philippines.

If you are taking any prescription drugs, make sure you bring them in the original container with the label from the issuing pharmacy. Do not bring any illegal drugs into the Philippines, you can receive the death penalty fo such a crime.

The Philippines has excellent medical facilities with an abundance of hospitals, clinics and doctors. The water is good but we recommend bottled water or soda.

Electricity is standard 200 volts AC, 60 cycles in the Philippines. Some areas use 100 volts.

Upon entering the Philippines, you are allowed to bring up to 400 cigarettes, 100 cigars or 500 grams of pipe tobacco.

The Philippine currency is based on the peso (P) which is made up of 100 centavos. As of this writing there are about 40.1 P to the U.S. dollar. So, your dollar goes a long long way.

The Food is excellent and inexpensive! Domestic spirits are also good and inexpensive. Philippine beer such as San Miguel is down right refreshing (and was a good friend, although I am not normally a drinker, of this web publisher). It is even exported to the U.S. and will only cost you about 40 cents per bottle while in the Philippines.
