Pokémon Gold/Silver

If you thought Pokémon Blue and Red were cool... then you haven't seen anything yet! A.K.A. Pokémon 2, Pokémon Gold/Silver are the sequels to the original Red and Blue games. With all new Pokémon, a new story, Game Boy color enhancement, and more, Pokémon Gold/Silver looks like it's going to be every bit as good (and maybe even better!) than the originals. Here's a sneak peek!

First off... the Pokémon. There's 250 of 'em now, mostly originals. Some of the new Pokémon will be evolved forms of the original ones, for example, Slowbro will evolve into something called a Slowking. Time passes in this game, like in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. There are some Pokémon that can only be found at night, and some only in the day. There's also a male and a female of every Pokémon species (like the Nidorans from Red/Blue) and you can even cross-breed Pokémon to create NEW Pokémon! Wowee! Other differences between this and the Red and Blue games: You get around using a skateboard, not a bike, and now your main rival is... a girl?! Heh. Guess everyone got sick of Gary (I know I did =] )

The graphics are a HUGE improvement over the originals. The battle scenes aren't half as blocky as Red and Blue. Of course, the Pokémon all have new pictures, too. And the new Pokémon look great! The map screens look nicer, too. The game makes very good use of the Game Boy Color, but from what I've heard, it'll also work with original Game Boy.

One BIG drawback to Pokémon Gold/Silver is that while Pokémon from Red and Blue can be traded INTO Gold and Silver, Pokémon from Gold and Silver can NOT be traded into Red and Blue. If you trade one of the new Pokémon into a Red or Blue game, it will become something else, for example, a Togepi traded into a Blue version might become Rhyhorn or something. But you'll be able to trade freely between Gold and Silver games, and you'll have to, because just like in Red and Blue, there are some Pokémon that can't be found in each version.
