In West Virginia you can make a splash on wild or mild whitewaters or once a year if you dare, you can jump from the New River Gorge Bridge. Or you can go biking, rock climbing and ski our mountains, camp, hike, and fish our woods and rivers, and enjoy our overlooks, resorts, and golf courses. Relive your childhood, come and play in West Virginia.
West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863 making it the 35th state and it's in the Appalachian Highlands. The Potomac River is the lowest point(240feet)in the State and Spruce Knob is the highest point(4,860 feet)in the state, and the State Capital is in Charleston, WV. The State is bordered by five states, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
MAJESTIC MOUNTAINS
No, we do not have to pump sunshine back into the hills. We now wear shoes most of the time, and we don't have to walk ten miles to school, up hill both ways. A few of us still talk Hillbonics and are known to be seen with our cousins every now and then. And if your on the right path, were still right before Heaven. We also believe in apple pie, baseball and three strike your out. And we can't wait for Jeff Foxworthy to run for President of the United States and for Jerry Springer to take over Janet Reno's job. And were very proud that the Greatest Deputy of all times Barney Fife ( Don Knots) came from our state. As did Spider Turner who did the song Stand By Me and Bill Withers who did the songs Lean On Me and Ain't No Sunshine are both from West Virginia. We also claim John Henry a Steel Driving Man. And West Virginia is also where the World lost Hank Williams Sr. but, not before he left us with alot of great songs as did John Denver. Since his song Country Roads, people finely found out that there is a state named West Virgina and it is not the western part of the state of Virginia, and he will be sadly missed also. And contrary to popular belief the Wild Wood Flower is not the state flower, even though people have been known to smoke it ever now and then. Maybe even Gilligan ( Bob Denver ), acording to Police in West Virginia he should have taken alot more long walks in some of the West Virginia woods, and not have tried to use the U.S. Mail to acquire his Wild Wood Weed, but we are still very glad he now lives in West Virginia. Clinton should have also taken a few long walks in our beautiful woods and gotten out of the office more, he could have gotten rid of a good case of poison ivy a lot faster than his women problems. And for the dumb Polish jokes we have all heard, it's time to put them to rest now. Because it only took one Polish female to bring down a President in more ways than one.
NOTICE: On July 5, 1999 Clinton was not in THE WHITE HOUSE he was walking threw The Appalachians Hills.
Maybe he heard about this Wild Wonderful West Viginia web site, hey stranger things have happened.
TAKING A SPEN IN WEST VIRGINA
Leaves of three let it be! Leaves of five let it thrive!
No longer do West Virginians set on the porch and smoke corn cob pipes when we get older. We are a tuff breed of people though, we don't even let age stop us. My Aunt Dot is eighty three years young 2005 and now lives in Endicott, New York and is on the internet daily, getting her e-mail and chatting to family and friends. Her Father, John Henry Doud was a superintendent in the coal mines and the family of eight moved many times as she grew up. Her Father had to go where the work was so they moved all over the state and to the surrounding states as well. Oswald in the southhern part of West Virginia was the last place her Father was superintendent before he retired. Times were hard and money tight but, they had memories that would last a life time. And she is still proud to have been a COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER
And Aunt Dot with her Great-Granddaughter, yea she's gone, remember she is in New York now.
AND THE REST OF THIS COAL MINER'S DAUGHTERS
