Domestic Violence


Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women. Each year three to four million women are beaten by their husbands or boyfriends. In this country a man beats his partner every 13 seconds. One out of every two women will be physically abused by their partner at least once.


Statistic are that 4000 women and children are beaten to death each year in domestic violence situations.


95% of boys and 72% of girls witnessing domestic violence will carry abuse into their own relationships. It is estimated that 1 out of 3 high school relationships includes domestic violence or rape.


On the average, a women is beaten nine times before she places the first call to police for help. Only 7% of all spousal assualts are reported to police.


Domestic violence includes not only beatings, but also threats of violence, verbal abuse, and sexual abuse.


57% of women who are physicaly abused by their partners never tell anyone.
