Florence, a cantankerous old maid, has come to live with her widowed brother in order to care for him since the death of his wife. Walter, who is wheelchair-bound, wants Florence to carry on the tradition he and his wife started of preparing Christmas dinner for the children in a near-by shelter, but she absolutely refuses. Florence wants to rest and take it easy since she has retired, and she doesn't want to be bothered with Christmas or a bunch of orphans. But Florence and Walter are both in for a surprise when a young couple have a flat tire in front of Walter's house and ask for help.
