Sarah Jane Lake
Sarah Jane Lake was born on March 12, 1854, the daughter of Alfred and Jane Watters Lake, who married in St. Clairsville, Ohio, in 1846. Alfred, according to his death certificate, was born in 1821, in Woodsfield, Ohio. Jane's headstone says that she was born in 1822. Both are buried in Union Cemetery, in St. Clairsville.
Sarah Jane married Robert L. in 1877 and divorced him in 1881. I found, in some of my father's papers, the marriage certificate for Robert L and Sarah, and in the same envelope, the divorce decree, in which she has custody of my grandfather, Fred, and Robert is ordered to pay a certain amount to her. I found this so interesting, and it was finding these papers that started me on my genealogical "travels".
Sarah married a second time, John Riley, and they had 4 sons; Clarence M, Harry Watters, John Howard, and Albert E. Sarah and John lived their lives in St. Clairsville and are both buried in Union Cemetery, as is her first husband and his second wife.....
