This map was made up from three older maps of different periods, none of
which represented conditions at a given time. The larger part was taken
from a draft of Kennett Township made before division into Kennett and
Pennsbury, in 1770. That part representing East Marlborough is from a much
older draft in possession of Wm. Marshall Swayne, made perhaps about 1730.
Road Supervisors for Tredyffrin 1725-1753
formed from the eastern portion of Kennett
in 1770, first surveyed ca 1686 but there were few settlements till post 1700.
The first to take up land there were Francis Smith, Henry Peirce, Robert Way,
Thomas Hope, Geo. Harlan, Isaac Few and William Huntley. Then came the
Harveys, Temples, MEndenhalls and Webbs. John Parker, an eminent
minister among Friends, was settled there in the time of the Revolution.
The village of Parkersville was named to honor him.
