How to Fill a Pattern

How to Fill a Pattern using PSP 7

(for beginners)

First open the Pattern that you want to fill.

I am using a candy wrapper available at
Sweetest Things

Then open the background fill that you want to use.

Next select the magic wand tool
Click on your pattern in the spot that you want to fill.
This will select it.
You will have "marching ants" around your selection.

Check to see that all of the white area is selected.
If not, go to Selections, modify, expand and type in the number 1.

In the styles box, click on the arrow and change it to pattern.

Then click on the pattern that comes up. This will open a new window.
Click on the arrow beside the pattern and you will see lots of patterns to choose from.

Find the pattern that you want to use and click on it to select it.

Now select your flood fill tool (bucket)
Click on your selected area with this tool and it will fill in the background.

Next go to selections, select none.

What I am going to do next is select a color from my background pattern.
Change your styles box back to solid color.

Select the dropper tool.
Click on a color from your background.
I chose color #EDD7C0.

Now change back to your magic wand tool again.
Click on another blank part of your candy wrapper pattern.
Hold down your shift key and click on the blank area on the other side.
Now you should have both of your borders selected.

Go to selections, modify, expand. It should still show the number 1.
Click on ok.
Select the flood fill tool again and click in your selected area to flood fill with color.

Next go to Selections, Select None to de-select.

Ok, now we are going to get rid of the black lines.
You may want to go to View and zoom in by 1 to see this better.
Select your magic wand again and click on one of the black lines.
This should select all of the lines for you.
I want to make my lines a little darker than the color I filled with.
To do that click on your color in the styles palette.
This will open a new window so that you can select your color.
You can slide the little bar (shown below) to select a color that will match what you already have.

Ok. Now that you have your color selected, just select the flood fill tool and flood fill your lines.

Ta Da!!! You did it.

The rest is up to you. Decorate and print.
Recommend that you print your wrapper on photo paper.
The look and feel are great.

I added a tube and some lettering to my candy bar wrapper.

When finished decorating, cut out and take your second candy bar,
('cause I know you already eat the first one)
and wrap with your new gorgeous design.
Tape or glue it to hold.

*Tube that I used is from: Folk Art Treasures
