Our building houses an office, gym, classrooms, computer lab and library. We have an active Parent Teacher Organization, School Improvement Council, Faculty Senate, and Responsible Student Program.
Our curriculum consists of Reading, Math, Language, Spelling, Handwriting, Science, Social Studies, Music, Physical Education, and Health.
We have many programs at Van Elementary to better enhance our curriculum including:
Breakthrough to Literacy is an interactive software program for students in kindergarten and first grades. The program helps the child discover the relationship between speech and written text through active exploration and discovery of language in stories and word activities.
Accelerated Reader is a computer generated program designed to encourage reading and develop comprehension and reading skills. This program also promotes parent involvement.
Excel Math is a mathematics curriculum for our kindergarten through fifth grade students. Mathematical concepts are woven into a single smooth and coherent strand of curriculum. Students are repeatedly given practice in the use of the concepts, following their introdution, so that they retain them and develop a solid foundation on which to confidently build their mathematical skills.
Saxon Phonics is being taught in grades K-3.
Extra courses offered are: Strings, DARE, Developmental Guidance and Skills.
