The Westside High Girls Varsity Basketball played it's first Offical game tonight and trounced Liberty 59-27.
Liberty----6----- 6 - 9 - 6 = 27
Westside 19 - 13 - 20 - 7 = 59
I believe that for the most part you play up to your competition and I think that is what happened tonight. While watching warm-ups I knew that this would be a no contest for our girls. We not only had them out-manned but were far superior in talent. Also it was the first game for this team and they still need time to come together as a team. Coach Mathis also substituted freely throught the game and in the fourth quarter played subs the whole quarter. Valuable experience for later in the season. I guess the weakest part of their game tonight was their foul shooting. It was, in a word, horrible. I'm thinking that there were three or four foul shots that hit nothing but air. In a tight game against a tough opponent those foul shots are going to be a necessity.
All in all it was a good outing for the home team. The Westside Invitational is Thursday(Dec 12) and Friday(13th) night at Westside, games are at 6pm and 8pm, we have the late game on Thursday. If I had to pick a MVP of tonights game, I couldn't. A lot of girls played hard and tough, but no one stood above the rest. A team effort tonight.
Record 1-0 You can't go undefeated if you don't win the first game. Go Renegades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
