00/11/7 ETC has removed the address blocks on the noproxy.com domain. Even the DNS lookups work again. There are still proxy URL blocks on some of the CGI urls (www.noproxy.com, for example), but almost all of the noproxy aliases I've posted in my proxy list work again.

00/10/5 I think MVlad's database has gone commercial, so the old findProxy doesn't work any more. I wrote a new findProxy.pl (which I've creatively called findProxyNew.pl). This thing gets a proxy list from any URL you give it (http, ftp, file, news etc.) and checks each proxy entry for usefulness in your country. It measures it's speed, undupes the results, does the DNS forward and backward resolutions to keep things tidy. It can handle most of the formats these lists come in - tell me if you find it doesn't work somewhere and I'll recode the regex to handle it. If you save the output of the program to a local file and tell it to check that file, you can recheck all your proxies periodically. See the downloads area.

00/9/22 I've been out of touch for a couple of weeks. Port 880 has been blocked in the UAE, so the proxies on that port are no longer useful. The port 8000 proxies are appearing and disappearing quicker than before, it seems.

00/8/31 Thanks to Joe, we finally have a shell provider who is offering free shell accounts, so that people can learn how to use the redirectors etc. I've been talking about for so long. We've been guiding people in setting these things up as a group. The results are starting to appear here as various tutorials written by myself, Aseef, and Hat. 00/7/21 My old site (https://www.angelfire.com/wy/0waynes/ was blocked by the UAE today, so now we're back here (https://www.angelfire.com/wy/waynes/ - this was blocked last year, but is now open again). A 30 minute job. These censors are such morons. This site will be the one I maintain from now on, until the next move by the UAE censors. Update: this site was blocked only hours later! This is fun, now we're at https://www.angelfire.com/wy/1waynes/; let's see how long it takes this time. Remember to try '2waynes' etc. if these get blocked again.

00/5/18 Internet access from the UAE was almost completely open from late 15/5 to sometime on 17/5. It looks like they had a major network meltdown and were forced to allow uncensored/unblocked access while they fixed it. It's all back and blocking again now.

There's a free external shell account for you to use (thanks IK), so there is no reason at all to need proxies on special ports! It's as easy to use as the paid-for ones, but a little less reliable and probably not forever. Good to use to get some experience, with a view to paying for something more permanent later.

Above I've linked to the details of setting up external ISP accounts to do your own 'proxies'. I'll be putting more effort into handling support for these accounts than in finding and testing proxies. Try it - you can make a proxy for anything (web browsing, usenet news, email etc.).

There's a new mailing list you should subscribe to. It's just email, so it should never be blocked; it should always be the best source of information about evading censorship. Here are the archives (or a threaded version) and main page. Subscribe via email or web. When my (this) site gets blocked, that's one list I'm sure to send the new URL to.

I get email from people who have trouble with english, and I want to help, but sometimes it's difficult. Maybe I need to put some Arabic or Chinese pages here - I'll try this if anyone wants it. Mail me (if you can read this!) and think it would be useful. Maybe you could send a jpeg with instructions in the right characters to give people a clue about how to interpret some of the stuff here.
