NATIONAL BANK OF ROMANIA would have liked to emphasize the World event of THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE -11 AUG 1999,as well the year 2000,by the new issue off the 2000 lei banknote,as legal tender.

The solar eclipse,the last of the Millenium,will it was most visible from the territory of Romania,in the area shown on the back of the note.

The 2000 lei banknote issued by the National Bank of Romania is the first polymer banknote issued in Europe.
