GUYS & DOLLS
Next year may seem a long way off but planning is already under way for Esperance Theatre Guild's 2001 big production Guys and Dolls.
Director Mel Bell invites adult actors, singers and dancers to audition for this popular musical production 1pm Sunday, December 10 at the Bijou Theatre.
Interested people must phone Mel on 9071 7927 or Lyndel on 9071 5103.
Set against the colour of New York City's high lights and low life, Guys and Dolls is an entertaining fable of love, marriage and temperance on Damon Runyon's Broadway.
While Nathan Detroit, operator of a legendary floating crap game, evades marriage to Adelaide, his chorus girl fiancee of 14 years, high rolling Sky Masterson revels in his reputation as a notorious gambler and womaniser. But when Nathan bets Sky that even he cannot sweep Miss Sarah Brown – the prim mission lass – off to Havana, everyone gets more than they gambled for.
With a classic score (including songs such as "Luck Be A Lady", "Sit Down, You're Rockin' The Boat" and "If I Were A Bell") Guys and Dolls is everyone's best bet for melody and laughter.
To make this great show happen we need a cast of
fifteen men, four principal women plus an enthusiastic chorus. There is a good
range of roles for adult actors and singers of all ages.
People auditioning
for principal singing roles should come to auditions with a song prepared (can
be a number from Guys and Dolls but this is not essential).
We are also calling for people to help construct
the set, paint, stage crew and sew costumes.
This will be a huge production
and it is definitely one not to miss!
It is planned to run the show for the
last two weekends of March and the first weekend of April. Rehearsals will get
under way mid-January.
Character lists and perusal scripts/music will be
available from Civic Video soon.
See you at auditions!
Santa in Space
Closing night is this Saturday for the pantomime Santa in Space. The show has been a fantastic success with full audiences at every performance.
The kids love Brian Walker and Dimity Franks’ portrayal of the aliens "Null" and "Void" but I’ve heard that Derek Clarke’s character "Vileun" has been scaring the little ‘uns a bit. And a little birdie told me that the dressing room is a barrel of laughs when Richard Tolman puts on his stuffed bra, bussel and high pitched voice to perform as "The Dame". Congratulations to director Andrew Dean, cast & crew. Good luck for your final weekend.
Civic Video confirmed at 3pm on Thursday 30th November that there were only a handful of seats left for Friday and Saturday nights’ shows.
